Chapter 16 A Mate's Dilemma
Chapter 16 A Mate's Dilemma
“I understand you may want something other than finding your mate…” Dixon said. “But I promise the decision from this moment onward shall be yours. We'll do anything you want—in your own way.”
“Why…” that was all she could utter before her voice trailed off again.
“I'm sorry it took that long, I've been—” he tried explaining, but she interrupted him with a shake of her head.
“That’s not what I'm asking!” She yelled. “I'm asking why you didn't just let me die! You should have what I requested of you!”
She panted heavily, and with a low, teary voice, she added, “do you think you being my mate will change my date? Do you think coming into my life at this moment changed anything?”
“I hated you even before we met, and even now that we do, I despise you more!” She shouted, unable to calm the storm brewing in her mind. “Do you think I'd be so desperate and welcome you into my life out of excitement?”
“No. I—” he had something to say, but she gave him no space.
“Are you still willing to grant my wish and end my life, or should I get someone else to do it?” She questioned and, without allowing him to respond, she sprang to her feet, ready to walk away.
“I'm still willing to grant your wish…” He expressed, making Izzy cease taking another step forward. He passed, allowing her to turn and immediately, as their gaze met, he added, “I'll do everything you want of me, except ending your life.”
She scoffed. “Really?” She uttered. She scoffed again, raising her eyebrows as she crossed her arms over her chest. “Why? Why won't you end my life? Aren't you more than happy to do that?”
“Just kill me. You're a noble wolf, definitely you'll have a second chance, mate. Then, you can choose someone of noble birth like you. Why are you afraid of killing me?”
“I want no one else. It's either you or nobody else. So shall it be…” He said, his voice filled with determination and his expression radiating confidence.
“Why'll you be so passionate about a low-life Omega like me? You must have heard about my story. I'm the cursed wolf of the Lydrian Marsh pack. My—”
He interrupted, continuing her story for her. “Your entire bloodline was eradicated….”
“Uhn!” She toned, amazed. She told her story, hoping to scare him off, but she was shocked he knew about it and still marked him.
What was he thinking? That was the question on her mind as she watched him continue her tale.
“Prophecy foretold you'll be the death of the Alpha, yet your death is forbidden, but you can be tortured in any way anyone deems fit...”
As he completed the narration, he smirked and looked intensely into her eyes. “Nothing about you is unknown to me… I've known your fate even before you're born…”
He exhaled softly, a smile slightly appearing on his lips. “I'm scared of none of those prophecies; my biggest fear is living this world without publicly declaring yours as mine.”
“Who are you?” The question fled her mouth.
He sighed. “I'm a different person in a single figure. Many people I've crossed paths with had different things to say about me. But soon, the universe shall know and identify me as a single person…”
“Izzy's mate. The man, who'll sacrifice everything he possesses to make his mate never regret a second by his side. I want the world to identify me as a lover who'll never give up on his lady.”
The more he talked, the deeper her confusion got, and again, just a single question escaped her lips. “Are you doing this because of the curse you implanted in me?”
He shook his head. But before he could answer, she continued. “You’re like a white garment, while I'm a palm oil. We don't fit together and there's no way I wouldn't stain you…”
“I'll allow you to break the curse, so we can go our separate ways. See the breakage as a way of me returning the favour of you taking me out of the prison called a pack.”
“I believe I made it clear from the beginning that breaking the curse thread is impossible—even with your permission, nothing changes…” He declared.
He paused briefly before explaining, “The curse can only crack and that won't happen unless we stay together…”
“For every time I make you happy, it'll crack little by little, and even after it does, its remnant will still be left, meaning I'm never completely escaping it.”
“But—” she wanted to talk out of pity, but he cut her off.
He grabbed her hands, holding her warmly. “Don't worry. It has become my cross and along with yours, I shall bear it…” He said, his voice showing no fear. “If you don't want me to suffer, then please accept the mate bond. Let our sign connect, so every happiness you feel will count…”
He locked eyes with her. “What do you want?” He asked. “Tell me and it shall be done without questioning.
“Revenge!” She said, her voice rising out of longness. Her response was immediate, as if she had been waiting for the question her whole life. She wasn't sure it was the right response to give—or maybe what Dixon wanted, but that was all that came to her mind.
“I want revenge. I want to retaliate against every soul that has been brutal to me. I want to inflict endless suffering on everyone who has hurt me…”
“Most especially, I want to end the road family of my pack—Lydrian Marsh. I want no one from the family to remain on the earth's surface. If I die immediately after ending the last person from that family, then I'll die with no regrets.”
Her response shocked Dixon, especially when she was determined to end his own family. But right now, nothing or anyone else didn't matter. It was Izzy's moment, and she shall be the centre of every conversation, every word, and even action.
“I don't want to spare anyone from that family.” She said again, determination etched on her face.
“But…” He had something to say, but was afraid it would ruin the moment, so he switched the subject. “Rest while I warm your herb, so you can take it after lunch.”
She nodded and sat.
After eyeing her for a moment, Dixon walked to the entrance. As he stepped out, he hated, his face furrowed. “What has my family done that she wants none of us to live?”
As Izzy watched Dixon's backside, her forehead wrinkled, and a lot of thoughts passed through her mind. “What secrets does he harbour? What do I need to know about him? Is the mate bond enough reason to trust him?”
