Chapter 15 A Revelation of Fate

Chapter 15 A Revelation of Fate
Dixon slowly rose to his feet, his movements unhurried, his eyes never leaving Izzy's face as he stood tall and quiet, the gentle warmth in his gaze a balm to her own troubled heart.

“You’re awake.” He uttered.

Izzy stared at him, expecting he’d instantly explain, but he didn’t add another word. Her eyes narrowed, her mind struggling to process what was happening. “What do you mean? What happened that night?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

He stepped closer, his eyes filled with a gentle warmth. “You’re safe now. You're with me. I'll explain everything. But first, go back inside. I'll bring your herb and lunch. You need to rest.”

She shook her head, her eyes flashing with determination. “No, I need to know what happened. I need to know if...if you…”

His expression softened, and he reached out a hand to steady her. "I'll tell you everything. Let’s talk inside.” He said, his tone persuading. He lengthened his arms, reaching out to grab her hand, but she stepped backwards, avoiding his touch.

She stood her ground, eyes locked on his. "Unless there are unseen people, I see no reason you can’t discuss whatever you have to say right here. And even if there are any, I doubt they’ll be interested in our conversation." Her tone was firm.

“Be at peace, Izzy. You’ve been here for days. If I wanted to hurt you, I’d have done that with no one to question me…” He made a point, his voice appeasing. “You’re right, no one is around to hear our conversation, not even an unseen creature, but you haven’t fully recovered from injury, so you shouldn’t stand for too long…”

“Let’s go inside to talk about it. If everything I’ll say is fine with you, you’ll make the next decision, and even if it’s not, the decision shall still be yours,” he said, pleading, “please, let’s go inside so you can sit.”

“I—” she still wanted to argue, but before she could utter another word, her mind lost control of her body, making her feet feel weighed down, and she almost collapsed to the ground, but he quickly grabbed her in his arms.

He wrapped her body in his arms, holding her tightly, but his hands were soft to avoid her feeling uncomfortable. With widened eyes and mouth open, Izzy’s gaze locked onto his soft gaze.

At that moment, she felt something she couldn’t explain. Was it pain? No? Was it easy? She wasn’t sure, but it was something she had never felt before. Something neither her body nor her soul has ever felt before, but one thing was certain, her body wanted to be wrapped in his arms for a longer time.

Dixon’s eyes locked onto Izzy’s, his heart pounding in his chest despite the serenity that had settled in his soul. He’d braced himself for her to push him, but since she hadn’t pushed him away, he felt an overwhelming urge to draw her closer, to hold her tight.

A sudden impulse took hold of him, and without stopping to think, he slowly leaned in, their lips hovering mere inches apart. Without an almost non-existent gap between them, Izzy suddenly got out of her thoughts.

“Uhn!” She hummed. Her eyes widened, and she pushed him backwards. She pulled with force, making him almost fall to the ground, but he quickly governed his body, standing steadily on his feet.

Immediately as Izzy stood on her feet, thinking she had control of her body, her ankles felt weighed down again, and she almost fell to the ground, but Dixon didn’t hold back. He grabbed her in his arms.

This time, he carried her from the ground, holding her in his arms like she was a piece of paper, and he felt nothing in his arms. “Calm down, please.” He appeased her, and without knowing what had overwhelmed her, she found herself not arguing with him. She gently wrapped her arms around his neck, looking at his face as he headed into the hut.

He walked to the bed and cautiously sat her on the bed, while she loosened her arms from his neck, still watching him intently. After adjusting her legs to make her comfortable, he sat beside her, his face cast downward.

“I don’t know how you’ll feel about this news, but I hope you can forgive me…” He said, his low voice tinged with guilt. He paused for a moment, and as he lifted his head, meeting her gaze, which screamed anticipation, he proclaimed. “I’m your mate.”

“Mate!” Izzy repeated, her voice rising in disbelief as she turned around a little, fully facing Dixon with a furrowed face.

She couldn't believe what she had just heard. How could he… how could he be her mate? That's not possible.

She had a lot on her mind. Many questions lay up, struggling to force their way out of her open mouth, but her lips betrayed her, refusing to pave the way for any of them, so she couldn't say a word. Instead, she stared at his lips, watching him speak with a voice full of regret and guilt.

“If you don't believe me, look at this…” He said and moved his cloth, revealing a faint silvery mark on his chest; a heart-shaped serpent devouring its tail.

It was getting real and more interesting, making it harder for Izzy to believe, and she still couldn't do anything or say anything other than stare.

Dixon stood on his feet. He hurried to the mirror and grabbed it, holding it was light despite its heaviness. He placed it in front of her, holding it to stand. “Look…” He said, gesturing his finger at her neck.

She looked at her neck in the mirror and saw the mark on her neck, and her mouth opened wide. It was true! She had the same mark as him. They were mates! How can this be?!

Her gaze slowly drifted upward, and she scanned him from head to toe and vice versa repeatedly for a moment. He seemed noble from the first time they crossed paths.

She had been begging for a mate for a long time. But she didn't expect she'd be paired with someone like him. What was the moon goddess thinking? How could her face take another route that made her instantly feel more wrathful around her?

Does this mean her suffering had ended or just the beginning of a torture that might be an endless one?
