Chapter 203 Protective Cocoon

Chapter 203 Protective Cocoon
???'s POV

"Blink! Blink!" Alpha Zander tried to coax himself. He still seemed to believe his ears had deceived him. Did the queen just say Hazel was with child? He asked himself and his wolf, Gidian answered.

"That is undoubtedly what she said. Not that it's impossible, but how come we can't smell our pup inside her?"

Zander's fingers stroked the side of his Luna's face, who wasn't moving an inch.

"I don't know, but I think Lucinda knows why," Zander replied telepathically to his wolf. The way how Lucinda was staring told him she had some idea of what was going on. Currently, he didn't know what to make of the situation.

The other werewolves were thinking the same. Confusion, excitement, and concern were only a few emotions that were swirling around in the air. And also staining the air with an enormous punch was fear. Fear of what this may mean for Luna Hazel.

James remembered the first time he smelt his son growing inside Sue-Ling, the she-wolf he was set to marry. A wave of guilt washed over him, but he quickly got a hold of himself. This wasn't the time or place for him to reveal his secret.

Declan glanced over at Hazel, who looked like she was about to pass out, and for the first time in a long while he could meet her gaze without feeling guilty or hating himself for wanting her. Because now the only person he wanted was his mate, Harper. Declan sniffed the air trying to get a whiff of the pup that was supposedly growing inside his Luna, but he didn't smell a thing. He tried to listen for its tiny heartbeat but again, nothing.

"You must be mistaken, Queen Magdalena. I sense no life in the Luna's womb," Isis spoke up after she tried to look inside the Luna's tummy, but all she saw was an empty womb.

"I am telling you, the Luna is pregnant."

"Then why can't any of us sense the pup?" Zander boomed, his eyes landing on Hazel, who was now wrapped tightly in his arms.

"I'm pregnant," Hazel barely whispered. Her breathing was shallow as she gasped for air. Lucinda rushed over to her daughter.

"Hazel, breathe baby," she told her. Hazel hugged her belly protectively, her lips trembled and tears streaked down her face.

"I'm going to be a mom," she sniffled, looking up at Zander. "And you a dad."

"I know, Kitten," Zander forced a laugh. His hand grazed her forehead, and he gasped. "You have a fever." Isis quickly hovered her hands over Hazel, an icy chill came from the witch's palms cooling down the Luna's body a bit.

"The child is the source of the fever. I cannot help her without my staff," Queen Magdalena spoke again. "For some reason, the baby is in a protective cocoon inside its mother's tummy so that it can go undetected by most supernatural. Only the Gods and mythical rulers like I, the fairy queen, can sense it."

"That makes sense," Zander declared. His mind went back to Dredwig. "I think the Dragon King knew. He congratulated me before we left the Dragon Summit."

"Of course, Dred knew," Magdalena added. "He is a powerful dragon. The first of his kind, so his dragon eyes can easily see through the barrier. For me, I can sense the child growing whenever I touch the Luna." She ran her palm over Hazel's tummy. "I'm afraid we have only a little time left. We have to get my staff or else the Luna won't last much longer."

"But how do we get it, your majesty?" Alpfonso asked. "There is no way Magnus will let anybody close enough to get it."

"You're right, but I think Harper can help us," the queen added.

"How?" Declan roared. "Isn't she Magnus' captive?" Lucinda and Magdalena looked at each other before they turned to look at Declan. "What is it you're not telling us?"

"It's a rather long story, and I'm afraid we don't have time to tell it," Lucinda explained.

"I won't die today or tomorrow, so I think we can spare a few minutes to hear what you have to say," Hazel stated, looking dead in Lucinda's eyes.

"Lucinda, just tell the child the complete story so we can get on with this," Queen Magdalena rasped.

Lucinda sighed. "Hazel, honey. I know your aunt Julia told you about the curse we had on our family that caused us to be infertile," Lucinda established and Hazel nodded her head. "Well, for some reason it lifted temporarily while I was living at Wolf's Pond and that's how I conceived you and Harper. I was sick throughout my pregnancy, and I was informed that I would die before I gave birth. Being a descendant of the Sun God, I knew this wasn't something I could go to a regular hospital with, so I began to search for a way to save my baby. I prayed to every God I could pray to until one night I had a dream of a beautiful, ethereal being with blue crystals for wings and diamonds for eyes. In the dream, she asked me to find her, and when I woke up, I realized the dream was actually a vision."

"The being was the Fairy Queen," Hazel announced.

"Yes, my dear. I travelled through the realms until I got to the dragon world and that's where I met Dredwig, and we hit it off and became friends. He led me through the Fairy Dust Shield and into the Fae world where I met Magdalena. She immediately knew I was sick, and she offered to help me in exchange for something."

"What was that something?" Isis asked.

"She said she wanted my daughter to marry her son one day, but I couldn't agree to that. I had already seen that Hazel was going to be Alpha Zander's Luna."
