Chapter 198 The Fairy Dust Shield
Chapter 198 The Fairy Dust Shield
DIMITRI'S POV
My inner ears kept ringing, tuning out the ramblings of the merman. My bloodlust increased, and my body couldn't fathom what I just heard. I sunk my fangs into my bottom lip out of anger.
"Impossible!" Zander raged. Gidian was reeling at the forefront, ready to rip into someone. Maybe me. And Alpha Zander wasn't even trying to hold him back. "Are you sure?"
"Yes. I'm sure of it." The merman stated.
"And what say you two?" Zander asked the witches.
"I—I am not certain. The child calls Lucifer uncle, so we thought she was his kin," Freya let out.
"That would explain Zoey's protectiveness and also the child seems attached to Zoey," Prudence wondered out loud.
I couldn't take this any more. I felt the skin on my back parting. My wings only ever came out when I was feral, and, trust me, I was close.
"Dimitri. Calm down. We will bring them back," Julia stated.
"You're right." I calmed down. "We can use the same portal stone to get back into Lucifer's hideout."
"I'm afraid it doesn't work like that," Isis added. "We have to know which realm Lucifer is hiding in first to go to him."
"Fuck. I feel like we are running in circles."
"Don't worry. I have an idea," Isis declared. "Hazel can figure out where Lucifer's hiding."
"Me?" Hazel looked up at Isis.
"Yes, dear. You have the power to dream walk and astral project. Remember, you Astral Projected to Zander's closet even before you met him."
"Yes, Isis. But we were in the same realm," Zander argued. "Plus, she isn't strong enough now."
"She will be stronger than ever once we get her to Queen Magdalena," Isis said.
"But -" Zander began.
"But nothing Zander." Hazel struggled to sit up. "Every one of you is here because of me. You put your lives in danger for me every day and as the Luna of this pack, Zoey is my responsibility and I will do everything in my power to save Zoey."
If I could cry, I would. "Thank you, Hazel," I bowed to show my gratitude.
"It's OK. Plus, we are cousins," she joked, and I couldn't help but chuckle.
"Then it's set. Next stop, the Fairy world," Carson announced.
"Now you all should eat and get some rest. Igna and I will need our every strength to open the fairy dust shield." Dreadwing stated.
I watched as everyone scampered off, leaving me alone with my worries. "So I am a father," I sighed. "I wonder if she knows about me?"
The dawn was slow to arrive, or maybe I was just eager to get to the Fae World. I stayed up the whole night. Thoughts of Zoey kept me from sleeping. I missed her beautiful green eyes and the fact that she was such a tomboy.
I always found that sexy about her. Then there was the child, my daughter. Did she really look like me? Something strange happened inside my body every time I thought about her, like my I sides were growing warm.
I walked outside to get some fresh air. There I saw Zander watching the moon disappear and getting replaced by the sun.
"Someone's up early," I announced. He spun around, not really surprised I was behind him. He probably smelt me coming.
"I couldn't sleep."
"Me either," I confessed. "You think Lucifer will -"
"No," Zander growled. "Don't you dare go there. We can't think like that. Besides, he kept her alive all these years for a purpose. I don't think he will kill her."
"You are right. But what about the child?"
Zander squinted his eyes and surveyed me from head to toe before he answered. "Your daughter will be fine." He stressed the word daughter. "You heard what the others said. Lucifer is territorial of the girl. He won't hurt her, either."
"I hope so." Because if he did. That would be the last evil he'll ever commit.
"Dimitri, tell me something. Why did you think Zoey died when you tried to turn her? Obviously, you were successful, but why did you think it didn't work?"
"I've been reflecting about that, too. And I admit I was reckless for even thinking about turning her. I knew the risk, but I did it, anyway."
"I am still angry with you for being so stupid. But I forgive you. I know Zoey and she stops at nothing to get what she wants."
"And she wanted this. She threatened to reject me and go start her life with the wolf who was her first." I snarled at the thought of Zoey and Carson mating and marking each other. "Anyhow. After I performed the turn on her, something seemed off. I didn't know what. But her heart stopped. Which was normal, but I awaited for her to awaken. I did. I stood by for days, but when 3 days passed, she didn't rouse. I told myself she was gone. So I buried her in our crypt."
"That's because she was pregnant." Isis made her presence. She had the dark fairy child with her and its Banshee mother. "Her body couldn't make the full transformation until the baby was born."
"Uncle Zander," Tia ran to him, and he picked her up in his arms.
"How are you, little one?" He asked.
"Good. Look what the elves gave me." She showed him a tiny wolf carving. Zander smiled. I stared at the child for a bit, wondering if my daughter was as sweet or curious as this one.
"Isis, you look like yourself again," Zander pointed out. Her locs were once again grey and her wrinkles were in their places again.
"I returned back to the dragon what I took." She smiled, and Zander nodded. "Back to Zoey. Her body went into a supernatural hibernation, pausing her change until she gave birth. So when Lucifer seized her from the crypts, he knew she was with child."
"I should have known." I gruffed.
"Don't be too hard on yourself," Zander said. "We all make mistakes."
"It's time," Layla appeared outside to tell us. "King Dreadwing is waiting for us in the egg room."
"The egg room?"
"Just follow me."
We followed Layla back inside the cave and instead of taking the left, we took the right this time until we entered upon a nice and cool passageway. The walk was small before we made it to the chambers where the others were. I was in awe. Eggs of all shapes, sizes, colours, and textures were everywhere.
"These are dragon's eggs," I let out.
"Yes, and they will all be hatched as soon as my Eternal and I mate," Dreadwing winked at Julia.
There was a throne in the back of the room. It was made of pure gold. Dreadwing trod closer to it and that was when I noticed it wasn't a regular throne,. It was, in fact, some kind of door.
Igna stepped up first. "Are you ready, your majesty?" He asked.
"Yes. I am. Are you?" The dragon king countered, and Igna nodded.
There was a flash of light, then both of them transformed into their dragon form. No one was focused on Igna's dragon. The king's majestic form was unlike anything I'd ever seen.
Four of the five heads on the Dragon King opened their mouths and spit out a swirl of earth, wind, water, and ice. Then Igna's dragon chimed in and added his flame to the mixture.
With a little shake, the throne split in half, revealing some type of vortex.
"The Fairy Dust Shield," Isis let out.
"Now you all have to hurry. Igna's flames are not as strong as mine, so it won't keep it open for long." Dreadwing stated.
"You guys go without us," Freya added. "Pru and I are too weak to help you right now."
"That's right. You should go home to Mount Hecate and regain your strength. I will come as soon as I can. Plus, Imogen and Beatrix would be happy to see you two." Isis hugged the sisters.
Julia said goodbye to the crew. "Don't worry, Hazel. As soon as I perform my mating ritual with Dread we will come meet you in the Fae World."
So Zander, Hazel, Dec, Isis, James, Carson, Cedella, Tia, and I stepped through the magical shield and into the fae world, leaving the dragon realm behind.
