Chapter 197 The Great Escape Part 2

Chapter 197 The Great Escape Part 2
???'s POV

Tears prickled Zoey's eyes and for a moment, she lost all hope. Then she noticed something glistening on the ground. It must have fallen from Lucifer's pocket when she jumped him.

A black gem. It was a portal stone. It was how Lucifer managed to travel from one realm to another.

It was then and there, Zoey came up with a plan. She looked over at the other captives, and she saw the fear in their eyes. She had to do this fast.

"Malia, can you transform?"

"I can, but I don't think I am strong enough to hold the transformation for long," her wolf huffed. "What do you intend to do?"

"I have little time to explain. I just need you to maintain our beast form for five minutes. Leave the rest to me."

Zoey stood to her feet. Her scraggly form looked like something out of The Exorcist. With an animalistic shriek, her body transformed. Lucifer watched in awe, wondering why she was transforming again.

The beast howled and even though it felt weak, it didn't show it. In a quick move, it grabbed the ruby from the ground and threw it to Ozone, then she turned and yanked the chains apart that were restricting the giants.

Igna recognized the stone. "I think Zoey wants us to leave," he said.

"But we can't without a fight," Ozone added.

They watched as the beast jumped once more on top of Lucifer, clawing and ripping at his chest. But it didn't matter how many slashes she left on him, they kept on healing in seconds.

"The hybrid is weak. She won't hold Lucifer for long," Igna declared before transforming into his dragon.

Ozone opened his mouth and squirted what seemed like acid over the guards that tried to attack them, but soon he too got weak. Igna used his wings and scooped up the two witches and merman and settled them on his back.

"Come on, Titus. We have to go," Prudence shouted. Titus ran up to the dragon, but before he could mount the majestic creature, the red-headed she-wolf cut the snake-man's head off. Freya screamed in rage and conjured up a beam of fire, trying to burn the she-wolf but she easily dodged it and ran off to hide. Zoey got distracted. She looked up just in time to see Titus's headless body falling to the ground. With a powerful blast, Lucifer threw Zoey off him.

Dodo and Hobo were ripping into guards from left and right.

Lucifer zapped Hobo with his magic and the giant exploded into dust. Dodo didn't have time to mourn his brother, as Lucifer zapped him, too.

"You think it will be this easy to defeat me?" He laughed. "Fools."

Malia fell to the ground again. She was weaker than before. It didn't take long for her to transform back into her human form.

Lucifer was pissed. "Wasn't I good to you, Zoey?" He kicked her in the stomach. She curled up, clutching her tummy. "I fed you. Kept you alive all these years." He kicked her again.

"Leave her alone, you monster!" Freya caught Lucifer's attention.

"I was going to put you all to sleep and drain your powers, but you've bested my patience." he pointed his fingers at them, ready to blast them into pieces.

"Uncle Lucifer, what's with all the noise?"

Zoey was the first one to stare at the child. Her raven hair fell down to her waist while her little fingers hung tightly around her teddy bear.

Lucifer's mean demeanour faltered when he saw the little girl. "Chelsea, why aren't you in bed?" Lucifer picked up the child.

"Ozone, NOW!" Zoey boomed.

The merman wasted no time as he opened a portal. Lucifer was surprised, his eyes zeroed in on the stone in Ozone's hands.

Zoey moved between him and her friends. He'd have to kill her to get to them.

"What are you waiting for? Go," she roared.

"Zoey, come with us," Prudence begged.

"I can't," she said, looking at the child. "I can't leave the girl."

Ozone stared long and hard at the kid in Lucifer's arms. "I promise you, Zoey. We will come back for you."

Prudence held a drained Freya as the dragon flew through the portal, leaving Zoey behind.

The clouds covered the sun as quickly as a snake, slithering across the now-fading blue sky. Igna moved over the familiar place as his body cast an ominous shadow over the land. It seemed right, it matched his dark mood. Even though he just met these creatures, he had a bond with them.

He hated they had to leave the hybrid behind. Tears formed under his eyes and the droplets glided down his face and dropped below.

The clouds got too thick for him to see his way, so he hovered down closer to the Mermaid Lake, and he half-heartedly sloshed the water around with his scaled tail. He was close to his home. His head snapped over his shoulder when he heard Ozone make a riveting sound, like a bird squawking.

Moments later, dozens of merpeople rose from beneath the water. Their eyes stained on their king, who was riding a great dragon. They cheered and sang with glee, happy that their leader was safe.

The wind whispered through the trees surrounding the Enchanted Fortress as Igna's dragon gained altitude. The path chilled the witches' numb fingers. They shivered as their blue hair whipped around their heads like a tornado. They hung on to the scales on the beast's back and watched as he soared gracefully, like a falcon across the sky.

The silver scales parted as the dragon's face broke out in a wide grin. He noticed over his shoulders that the witches were enjoying the ride. And If you've never seen a dragon smile, it was a sight to behold, well worth your while. They formed a powerful alliance this day as together they flew up toward the dragon caves.

There was a twinkle in Igna's eye as he flapped his wings and floated higher.

As they soared over the snow-covered mountains, something tiny hit the dragon. It would have gone undetected if it weren't for the burn that accompanied it. He zeroed in on the side of the mountain, and that's when he noticed the little people aiming their witch-blood-coated bows and arrows at him.

Dozens of darts spiralled toward him. He flew up higher than he had ever done before. Soon, a large arrow grazed his leg, causing him to lose altitude. He tried to control his landing but crashed at the entrance of the dragon cave.

"And that's how we got here," Igna finished.

There was a long silence before Dimitri spoke. Zander and the others weren't surprised to learn Zoey was a hybrid, but Dimitri asked the question they all wanted to know. "I just don't understand. Why couldn't Zoey leave that child?"

But Ozone looked away. Julia quickly caught on to the merman.

"You know something," Julia accused. "I read it in your mind, but I didn't quite get the full understanding."

"I swear, if you are hiding anything from us, I will gut you and make sushi out of you," Dimitri warned.

"Isn't it obvious?" The merman scoffed.

"Isn't what obvious?" Freya questioned.

"The child is a hybrid. But not a bitten. She is a born hybrid." Ozone explained.

"And what's your point?" Dimitri asked. There were a couple he'd met before. Hazel was one of them.

"She is not a regular hybrid. She is a half werewolf, half vampire," he looked at Dimitri. Everyone gasped. Now this was new. "I wasn't sure at first until I got here." he cleared his throat. "The child looks just like the vampire."

Dimitri clutched his chest like he had a working heart. "What are you saying?"

"Zoey couldn't leave the child because she is the child's mother and you Dimitri is the child's father."
