Chapter 19 Fear
Elena’s POV
I got out of the bathroom, feeling good that I actually put Celine in her place.
Someone bumped into me in the hallway.
“Sorry I didn’t—”
“You shouldn’t be moving around all by yourself.”
I looked at him.
He was tall and big, his uniform similar to the other men outside.
He was a guard, I thought to myself, but something still felt wrong about him.
“Um, I was just using the restroom. I will be on my way now,” I said, trying to sound calm, but he was actually scaring me.
“You shouldn’t have come here alone,” he gave me an evil smile that sent chills down my spine.
“I should really get going, my friends are waiting for me,” I lied, stepping around him.
He moved fast, blocking the way. He grabbed my hand tightly. “You are not going anyway.”
“Let me go,” I said, trying to sound brave even though my voice cracked.
He leaned in closer and I looked into his eyes. There was nothing there but pure hatred.
“You don’t belong here,” he said. “You don’t belong anywhere.”
Fear rolled over my entire body. I tried pushing and hitting him so he could let go of me, but it didn’t work.
“Let her go,” I looked over and saw Liam growling and his black eyes were golden now. I felt so relieved he was here.
The guard looked at him and sneered.
Then he reached into his trousers and took out a silver knife, dragging me closer.
“If I die today, I’m taking this abomination with me,” he raised the blade up about to stab me.
Liam grabbed the guard’s wrist, twisting it until the blade fell to the floor and his bone cracked.
“How dare you touch what’s mine,” Liam’s fist connected with his jaw, sending him flying across the room.
Liam went after him.
“Liam, wait, he—he might know something.”
He looked at the guard, his eyes returning to their beautiful black.
My legs gave out as I fell to the floor.
Liam rushed to my side immediately, the anger vanishing from his face like it was never there.
“Are you okay? Are you hurt?” he dropped to his knees, looking at me searching for any injuries.
“Elena,” he said. “Elena look at me.”
I felt my face getting wet, “Liam he-he was going to—”
He pulled me into a tight hug. “It’s okay, I’ve got you. I’m sorry.”
I clung to him, my fingers digging into his suit.
The hallway was filled with guards moments later.
Elder Rowan was leading them.
“Take him and chain him up with silver,” Liam ordered coldly. “I want answers.”
The other guards picked the man up, for a second I thought Liam had killed him with that hit, but he was still alive.
“What happened here?” Celine walked out of the bathroom.
“And what are you doing here?” Liam snapped, looking at Celine suspiciously.
“I was in the bathroom helping Elena with her dress,” she looked at me. “Right Elena?”
I glared at her, wondering why she waited so long before she came out.I felt too tired to think about it clearly so I just nodded.
Liam told the guards to let her through and she left.
“Let’s go home Elena.” Liam picked me up before I could refuse.
We came out the hallway as I heard Elder Rowan telling everyone to stay calm and that it wasn’t another rogue attack.
We got outside, the cool breeze touching my face.
“You can put me down,” I said.
“Are you sure you can walk?” he looked really worried.
“I’m fine.”
He put me down, as we walked to the car.
The car ride was quiet at first.Liam had decided to drive, maybe because he was feeling tense.
I looked out the window, still replaying what happened with the guard.
“I should have gone with you,” he said finally. “I knew something was wrong.”
“You didn’t know,” I muttered.
“But I did,” he snapped, then softened. “I felt it.”
I didn’t know what he meant but I was too tired to ask. I leaned my head against the seat, my eyes closed.
The car came to a stop. I opened my eyes, we were back at Blood Moon Pack.
Liam carried me in his arms as he walked into the pack house.
We got to our floor, Sarah was waiting at her door. She didn’t say anything but just smiled at me, I wondered if she heard what happened.
Liam laid me on my bed as we got to the room. I didn’t understand why I felt so exhausted.
I held his hand as he was about to leave. “Can you stay? Just tonight.”
I don’t know what has gotten into me today, maybe it was because this was the second time I almost died but I didn’t want to be alone tonight.
“Of course, anything you need.”Liam got into the bed and pulled me close until there wasn’t any space between us.
He was warm.
My eyes closed and for the first time tonight, I felt safe.
