Chapter 15 The Dress
Liam’s POV
I didn't like being away from Elena. It was draining, but I had to make sure the pack was safe.
It was clear that the rogue attack wasn’t a coincidence, and I had a strong feeling it had something to do with Elena—which worried me even more.
I didn’t like that I had no idea what was going on with her. There were too many unknowns, and she hadn’t said anything about what really happened to her that night.
Liam, I’ve done a round check of the pack grounds. Nothing seems out of place. Josh dragged me from my thoughts through the mind link.
And the other team?
They just went over the border. No report yet.
Okay then. Keep in touch.
I went back to my research. After training Elena yesterday, I noticed two things: she craved me as much as I did, and she learned very quickly—almost too quickly. It seemed like she worked better when she was tired. Something happened when she trained with Sarah, but that didn’t make any sense.
I had told Elder Rowan to ask around if he knew anyone who might have an idea what was going on, but it looked like I was on my own.
I picked up my phone, staring at the message I received yesterday about another council meeting.
It was necessary—but reckless. What if something happened again?
I had asked Elena to come with me because I wanted everyone to see and meet my mate. Just thinking about her made me want to run to her and hold her tight. I loved the way those beautiful purple eyes always looked at me.
A knock came at my door.
“Come in.”
Sarah and Clara walked in.
“You asked for us, Alpha,” Clara bowed.
I had known Clara since we were kids. We were more like a trio back then—just me, her, and Josh. She would always leave Scott at home to come play with us, and every time her parents would yell at her. After a while, she started bringing Scott along, and he became our little brother too.
“Yes, I did. I’m taking Elena to the council meeting this evening, and I know she doesn’t have a dress she could wear. I was hoping you two could help pick one out. I already got a couple,” I said.
“Leave it to my brother to take his mate to a council meeting instead of a date,” Sarah rolled her eyes.
“Wait—what? Liam’s mate?” Clara looked around, shocked.
“Who told you that, Sarah?” I asked. I obviously didn’t.
“Oh please. It was so obvious. Anyone with eyes can see you’re crazy about her. But I had a feeling something was up, so I asked Josh—well, I threatened him, to be exact.” She smirked.
I rubbed my forehead. I was going to kill Josh.
“Are you going to help me with the dress or not?”
“Of course. I can’t have Elena looking horrible tonight.”
“I’ll help too,” Clara finally said after being so quiet.
She looked at me like she had a thousand questions, but she swallowed them, and I was grateful for that.
I knew Sarah was going to ask her questions anyway—she was just deciding which one to ask first.
We left my office and went to my private storeroom.
“Whoa, Liam. You said you bought a few dresses. This is not a few,” Sarah said as they both looked around, shocked.
“This is every girl’s dream,” Clara squealed.
I admit I had gone overboard and bought more dresses than necessary. They all looked like they’d suit her.
“We’re going to be here all day,” Sarah sighed.
After what felt like forever, they finally picked one. Clara held up a dark purple dress.
“I think it would suit her eyes,” Sarah said, smiling.
“I agree,” I added.
I packed the dress up. I thought about asking Sarah to give it to her, but I changed my mind.
I walked up to Elena’s door and knocked.
She opened it, a towel wrapped around her beautiful body. Her raven curls fell in every direction, and she looked unreal.
I had to hold my wolf back from taking over and claiming her right there.
“Oh—hi. Sorry, I thought it was Clara,” her cheeks flushed as she held her towel tighter.
“I didn’t see you during breakfast,” she said, looking up at me with those beautiful eyes.
“I had some work to do.”
She nodded. I wished she talked more like she did yesterday while we were training. I did push her buttons a little—but I loved seeing her feisty.
“I picked up a dress for you,” I said, handing her the bag.
She looked at me, then at the bag.
“I wasn’t sure what you’d like, so I asked Clara and Sarah for help. It’s your size, but if you don’t like it, tell me.”
“Thank you,” she smiled, stepping closer and kissing me on the cheek.
My legs felt weak. I just stood there, stunned.
She blushed and closed the door.
I didn’t know how long I stood there before I finally pulled myself together.
I walked back to my room.
This girl was going to be the death of me.
