Chapter 52 Hazel Unleashes The Sun
Chapter 52 Hazel Unleashes The Sun
Hazel's POV
As the battle continues, I can't shake off the feeling that someone is watching me.
I know.
I'm in the middle of a very active battlefield, and there's someone just standing somewhere watching me.
It doesn't make sense.
But as long as I have this gut feeling, I only get to be on my toes even more.
I keep checking my blind spots every now and then, feeling like someone is about to appear out of nowhere and kill me.
Alpha Logan rushed next to me as I slay a witch with my sword.
"We have the forest surrounded, should we close in on them and end it?" He asks me
That is the original plan.
As most of the Mooncrest wolves engaged with the vampires and witches, Logan's wolves were tasked to surround the battlefield.
With one last assault, we were going to crush our enemies.
However, it feels too easy, and there's one part of the plan that is yet to play out.
"Not yet. Not until we find the Vampire King." I say to him.
That's the missing piece.
We can't launch the attack without knowing where he is.
He could even have been left behind with another army of witches and vampires, waiting for us to attack before they launch their surprise assault.
"I'll tell them to hold" he responds and then disappears into the crowd.
In the distance, I can see lights flashing, meaning that mum and dad are still dealing with the high priestess.
And with the Vampire King yet to make an entrance, something definitely feels off.
And the feeling that I've been getting that someone is watching me, has only gotten stronger.
As I'm focused on finding the person who is watching me, I make the mistake of taking my eyes off Lucas, and the next thing I see is him flying across the battlefield and crashing into a tree.
He lets out a loud whimper and falls to the ground with a thud.
"Lucas! NOOO!!!" I scream out and rush to his side
He is injured, but not fatally.
He however needs to be taken to the back of the battlefield where the other wounded men are so that he can recover.
However, as I'm crouched next to him, checking his injuries, I hear a whooshing sound.
It's so fast that I don't even have time to turn and look, as my hair stands at the back of my neck and it suddenly stops.
Suddenly, everything goes silent.
It's as if I've been sucked into a vacuum, with everything moving in slow motion as well.
As I slowly turn my head around, I realized that I'm not the only one feeling it, as every wolf in the battlefield turns towards my direction.
With the wind blowing and rattling the branches of the trees, I feel an unexplainable feeling wash over me, as I look up and see Jordan standing in front of me, with his back to me.
I can't smile, because I can feel that something is wrong. And this feeling is quickly justified when I hear him groaning and realize that there's someone standing in front of him.
That wasn't just a whooshing sound that stopped abruptly. That was someone coming for me, and Jordan stepped in front of their path and stopped them.
My mouth goes dry,and I feel my heartbeat getting weaker.
Just then, Jordan drops to the ground, and the man that is standing there comes to full view, and is holding a beating heart in his hands.
"Poetic. Your mate dies with his heart still beating for you, one....last....time."
And in horror, I watch as the heart in the man's hand beating one final time.
My eyes look down at Jordan and see a hole in his chest, where his heart is supposed to be.
I don't recall what I was feeling in that moment, but hate doesn't come close to the disdain that I had towards the man.
Standing at over six feet tall, and his eyes glowing a crimson red, such as the color of the eclipse, I realize that I'm looking directly at the Vampire King.
And he just killed my mate, Alpha Jordan, who rushed and sacrificed himself to stop the vampire king from getting to me.
A volcano of emotions erupt from deep inside me, and I almost jump to my feet and take him on one on one.
However, my mother has different plans as she summons a spell that nearly blasts the king away, were it not for his quick retreat.
Buying us time, I can hear Alpha Logan and Beta Xavier ordering the wolves to retreat.
In a matter of minutes, we are out of the forest and are regrouping just outside the gates to the pack, when I come back to my senses.
The entire atmosphere is somber, and mum doesn't want me anywhere near Jordan, despite the overwhelming feeling that I already knew that he was no more.
I'm seated down, watching as everyone tries to comfort me, while in the distance I can hear the doctors desperately trying to save Jordan.
But it's hopeless.
You can't save a man that has had his heart ripped out of his chest.
Next to me, I can already hear Xavier and Logan talking about what their next course of action should be.
"Jordan is dead." Venus says to me, as she weeps bitterly.
"And so has my will to live." I tell her, realizing that I have no tears left to cry.
This is what Lucas went through when he felt Susan's death even before the doctors told us about it.
"What do we do?" Venus asks, sounding lost and hopeless.
"We end it all. I'm tired of the deaths, destruction, curses, fighting and everything that has come because of me.
It's about time that we put to an end to it once and for all." I answer.
"Have your men entered the forest?" Xavier asks Logan.
"No." He answers.
And I realize that that's all I need to hear to do what I'm about to do.
Blinded by rage, and no longer feeling anything, I get on my feet and I can feel the power that mum told me I possessed.
It's building up inside of me, and seems to be fueled by my grief.
I start walking back into the forest, and when I'm about one hundred meters away from everyone else, is when they realize that I'm going back.
"Hazel!" I hear them calling.
"Come back."
"Go get her!"
I can hear footsteps rushing after me, but I proceed to chant an incantation that mum taught me, setting up a boundary around the entire forest so that no one can get in, or out.
As I'm already inside the boundary, I continue walking as I ignore the pleas from everyone begging me to turn back.
I continue moving forward, the decision that I've made, being final.
The further I walk into the forest, the stronger I feel the power inside of me becoming.
It's as if it is charging up for one last attack.
I don't shift my gaze as the trees that I walk past whither away and die, and so does anyone that tries to attack me.
As if being guided by some power, I walk right up to the middle of the battlefield, and find the army of witches and vampires regrouping.
When they sense my presence, they all turn to look at me, all with malicious intent.
However, none of them makes a move as the high priestess and the Vampire King emerge.
The high priestess immediately takes a step forward and announces, "You really want to die? Well then, Hellfire from the belly of the underworld, BURN!"
She casts the spells, and once again she throws another ball of fire in my direction.
However, this time is different.
With the power that I feel inside of me, I feel like a god. The feeling makes me realize how one feels when they are untouchable, and everything bends to their will.
So, as the blazing fireball spirals towards me, I simply whisper, "Die."
And it immediately disappears.
I'm not surprised.
And for the first time since we met, I see fear in the high priestess' eyes.
"You come to my home, declare war on my people and even kill my mate! And why?
Because of the power that I have?
Well then, I think it's about time that I give you what you've come for. I hope that you can handle it " I tell them, feeling the power inside me getting to its maximum.
I can't hold it in any longer, and as I feel it about to rip through my chest, I redirect it to my raised hand and point to the moon that is in the sky.
"Both of you had your chance to kill me, and you failed. It's now my turn!" I declare as the power rips through my body, flowing into my hand and fires off into the sky, going towards the moon.
"You wanted to kill me with hellfire. I'll kill all of you with fire from a star!"
Just then, there was a loud screeching roar that tore through the sky. It sounded like the heavens were ripped open.
When everyone looked up, they realized what was happening, but I wasn't done yet.
I cast the last spell, to put to an end to that war one and for all.
"By the fire that bows to none, I claim the sky.
Sun of wrath, Incendia Solis, burn the world beneath me!”
