Chapter 53: The Warrior is Over

Xavier's POV

The battle plans have gone out the window by now.

We have so many wounded, and the battle is not even over.

I don't know what to do.

Lucia and Mark are standing next to Lucas as she chants a spell and he soon shifts back to his human form.

But this isn't the least of my concerns.

Alpha Jordan is dead.

This is not a guess, because he has a fucking hole in his chest.

I watched as the Vampire King ripped out his heart when he stepped in to save Hazel.

It was destined. I always thought that she was going to be the death of him.

But this isn't how I saw it happening.

He laid out his life to save her, and now, the pack has just lost its Alpha.

Looking around, I can see all our men feel it.

His death has hit each and every single one of us. It's almost as if an invisible sword has been driven through each and everyone's chests.

Being the one closest to him over the years, I felt the connection that he had with the pack being severed when he took his last breath.

Surely, everyone in the capital must've felt it too.

I'm already worried about Amanda. How will I be able to tell her that her brother is no more?

You'd think that's all the problems that we have.

No.

Hazel has just done the unthinkable.

She has walked back into the forest when all our backs were turned.

By the time we realize where she is going, she has put up a barrier that I stopping anyone from entering the forest.

"None of my men can get in!" Alpha Logan laments.

"The barrier is all around the forest." I say as the realization sets in.

My question is, why is she doing this?

What is her plan? Her end goal to be specific.

Her mother rushes to my side after making sure that Lucas is okay, and tries breaking the barrier.

However, she falls to her knees weakly and says, "She's gotten stronger than me. I can feel her power growing.

I don't know what she is doing, but her power level is about to get catastrophic."

"How strong are we talking about?" I ask her.

"God-like." She answers.

Her tone changes and I can tell that she is not just concerned, she's fearful.

Not knowing what Hazel is about to do, I look at Lucas and say, "She has trapped all the witches and vampires inside there. Let's make sure that when the boundary spell wears off, we don't let any of them escape."

And with that, the remaining warriors that can fight, stretch out across the border of the forest.

As we are waiting for the boundary to drop, a loud whirling sound eminates from inside the forest, and we all watch as beam shoots from inside the forest.

Like a projector, it goes straight into the sky, and directly at the moon.

"What is that?" I ask, directing my question to Hazel's mother.

As she looks up to the sky, she simply whispers,

"Her defiance to the moon goddess."

I barely open my mouth to question when a thunderous clap sounds across the sky.

This is followed by a loud crack that makes us instinctively flinch as we look up.

With my eyes to the sky,I can't believe what I see.

The moon, that is covering the sun, has cracks all over and bits of the sun's rays are breaking through.

The moon, is shattered!

And that's not all.

The sun roars and as everyone goes dead silent and look up to the sky, there's a loud hum that sounds like it's charging up by the second.

"This doesn't sound good." I murmur.

"What is she doing Dahlia?" Alpha Logan asks, sounding concerned.

"She's about to unleash the sun's wrath in an energy ball on everyone inside the forest." She answers confidently.

The moment I hear this,I can't help but think that even if that's possible, won't all of us be incinerated in the blast?

"That's why she set up the barrier! She is going to wipe all of them out!" She adds as it becomes more evident that Jordan's death has awoken Hazel's true power and flipped a switch inside her.

"Won't.....she kill herself....?" Logan questions, his voice trailing.

"It's a sacrifice she's willing to make." Hazel's dad says as he walks up to his wife and consoles her.

As the charging up sound becomes even louder, it gets to a point where it suddenly goes silent.

It's almost as if we're in a vacuum, and waiting for the world to come to an end.

Lifting up my eyes once more, all I can do is point for the others to see.

The moon, which has now cracked even more, literally disintegrates in front of our eyes and then, the air roared with a loud reverberation sounded across the sky like a heartbeat from the heavens.

This is followed by a meteor-sized ball of the sun's energy that breaks through and comes hurling into the Earth's atmosphere.

"Retreat!" I order the people immediately.

From the size of the solar fireball that Hazel has just summoned from the heavens, I honestly don't think that the barrier she set up will be enough to stop it.

This shit looks like the same one that wiped out the dinosaurs.

Moving quickly, everyone retreats and once we are even further away, we watch as the solar fireball scatters clouds and is seconds away from impact.

"HHHAAAZZZEEELLL!!!" her mum screams inconsolably as it makes impact and lands right at the heart of the forest.

The impact is so strong that it shakes the earth beneath us so violently that it knocks us out of our feet.

Falling like we're at the center of 10.0 magnitude earthquake, a beam of light and deafening sound roars across the land.

The light is so blinding that I have to close my eyes and hope for the best, as my eardrums are on the verge of shattering.

I don't know how long this lasts, but by the time that I'm opening my eyes, there's a loud enough ringing sound in my ears, and I feel like I've just gotten a concussion.

I manage to pull myself to my feet, and as I look around, I realized that everyone else was also knocked down and are just making it to their feet.

Turning around, my eyes widen with shock as what used to be a very huge forest has now been flattened and the earth has sunk so deep it has become a crater.

And this is not all.

At the very bottom of the crater, it looks like a volcano as the ground is glowing red.

The impact of Hazel's attack us so severe that the ground has been melted into molten lava.

There is nothing that can survive such an impact.

And as everyone is shaking off the aftershock, all of us stand and look at the devastation that Hazel has brought down from the heavens.

The looming realization finally starts to sink in as I realize that she has just wiped out all our enemies.

I want to lift up my hand and declare that victory is ours, but I can't.

Turning my head slightly, I can see that even Alpha Logan can feel it.

We have achieved victory, but at what cost.

Raising my eyes to the sky, the sun's rays finally hit my face and another question looms from inside my head.

'Where is the moon?'

It's no longer in the sky, and will definitely not come up at night since Hazel has destroyed, at the expense of wiping out all our enemies.

There's a lot to process, but that's not just all that happens.

Some of the men start murmuring and their voices become louder.

One of them rushes to my side and points to the very center of the crater, where something seems to be shining like a star, and pulsating with a heartbeat.

Squinting my eyes, I try to get a better look at it, and you can imagine my shock when I realize that I'm looking at a wolf,in the middle of the lava-filled crater, standing untouched.

The wolf doesn't seem affected by the immense heat coming from around it.

In fact, it seems like it's right where it's wants to be.

Squinting even harder, I realized the reason why it looks like it's glowing and pulsating is because of its fur.

It's silver fur to be specific.

"Hazel!" I exclaim as I watch in pure disbelief.

Just then, the wolf let's out a loud howl to the sun.

This is followed by another. Then another.

One after the other, the howls are getting louder, and when I'm finally able to hear the howls clearly, I immediately realize that it's mourning.

The howls are a cry for help, and she is not howling for us to help her.

No.

She is crying to a stronger being.

She's crying to the moon goddess.

"Xavier. Look up." Alpha Logan tells me casually.

Hesitantly shifting my gaze from Hazel to the sky, I notice that there is something that is spiralling next to the sun.

It looks like a huge black hole, but as the seconds pass, the spiralling stops and a bright beam of light, lights up the entire sky.

When the blinding light finally dies down, I finally see what was happening.

The moon has been reborn.

And the only person that could do this, is none other than the moon goddess.

The same deity that Hazel is crying to.
