Chapter 39 The Rogue
Chapter 39 The Rogue
Hazel's POV
From what I had gotten from the high priestess' thoughts when she was poisoning Alpha Jordan, I was the key that could break the curse and cure the poison.
That made so much sense as to why the witches had tried taking me when they attacked me.
I chose not to disclose what I had learnt to my parents just yet, because I knew what had to be done and they weren't going to agree to it.
"Trust me on this. I'll tell you everything when the time is right." I said to them before I excused myself.
I rushed to my room and locked the door, and then stood in front of the mirror that was on the dresser.
Pulling my shirt up, I stood there half naked, and turned around.
It was right there.
"We just need to make sure that Hazel doesn't get close to Jordan and mate with him.
I just know that she has the mark."
Those were the words of the high priestess, and she sounded so sure that whoever had the mark she was talking about, could shatter everything that they had done.
She had to be talking about the mark that was on my back.
As I looked at it, it was the first time that I was paying so much attention to it.
"I thought this was just a punishment from the moon goddess for abandoning Jordan after he rejected me." I said to Venus as I recalled how it burned when I was about to leave him at the mercy of the masked men that appeared when I was with him.
"It's both a curse and a gift."Venus commented.
The mark, so big that it covered half of my back, looked like a mishapen head of a wolf and the more attention I paid to it, it all started making sense.
"Is that.....a wolf's......head....?" I asked myself, trying to make sure that I wasn't just seeing my own things.
I wasn't wrong.
It was.
"Oh my God.....that must be the representation of Jordan....and his broken wolf."
I couldn't believe it.
When the mark appeared on my back out of nowhere, I always thought that it was just there to cause something.
Especially the two times that it had flared up, one of them being so severe that I passed out.
And now I knew that the bearer of the mark was the solution to everything.
"Venus, I know what we need to do. And you'll be more than excited to hear what it is," I said to my wolf, as I finally wore my shirt and went downstairs.
I bid my parents goodbye and went back to Amanda's place.
I had to sit down somewhere where I could think and come up with the best way to execute my plan.
Once I was there, I asked her,
"Do you think Jordan has someone watching me?"
Amanda was caught completely offguard and she was genuinely surprised when she answered, "I don't think so. Do you?"
I shook my head as I thought it through.
"I mean, it seems so coincidental that he appeared out of nowhere on the night that Logan proposed.
Xavier couldn't find him when the event started, but he suddenly appeared when the spotlight was on me.
It's almost as if someone told him what was happening as he was getting drunk, and that's why he wasn't even shocked to see Logan proposing."
I knew I made sense because Amanda didn't brush off the reasoning. In fact, she even thought it through as I spoke.
"That could be the case. Do you want me to tell him to call off whoever is watching you?" She asked.
"No. If there's someone actually watching my every move by Jordan's order, I'm going to need exactly that in the plan that I'm about to carry out."
"And what plan is that?" She asked me, and I was happy to share with her the plan that I had so far.
Once I was done, she was looking at me like I was mad.
"That's dangerous Hazel. Please tell me you have another plan." She begged me.
I didn't have another plan, and I was ready to move forward with the one that I had.
"Then please let me follow you." She requested.
"Amanda, I need to do this alone.
It's the only way that I can make sure Jordan mates with me despite the poison in his body.
I'll need your car though."
Amanda tried her best to persuade me not to go ahead with the plan, but when she realized that I wasn't going to change my position about it, she finally had to give in.
"If you won't have me there, then at least call me at the slightest inconvenience. I'll be there before you even blink." She said as she reluctantly handed me the keys.
The plan relied on one assumption, that Jordan had one of his men trail me everywhere that I went.
If that wasn't the case, I wasn't going to get what I want.
So, I didn't waste much time and rushed to Amanda's car.
"If there's someone watching, I surely do hope that you don't stop now." I whispered as I put the key in the ignition and started the car.
I drove and headed out of the pack, knowing that if there was someone watching and feeding Jordan information, he was probably going to lose his shit when he hears that I was out of the pack.
I knew the risks that were outside the pack's territory. One of the main ones being that the witches would try to take me once again.
Being that close to finally getting what they wanted, I wouldn't blame them for wanting to take advantage of the opportunity if it landed on their laps.
And because of that, I made sure that I wasn't far from the pack as I parked the car outside the first diner that I saw.
When I walked inside, I didn't recognize any of the people inside, but most of them were human. I could smell them.
And that's when I saw him, seated in the corner of the room, looking at the menu.
A man that looked like he was in his early thirties, with hair held up in a bun, around six feet tall and a body only the gods could have sculptured.
I picked up his scent and could already tell that it was off.
His scent made me uneasy, as he was probably untamed and I could sense that he was a man trying to blend in while the wild still clung on to him.
He was a Rogue.
A wolf without a pack that roamed the forests looking for anything that he could get his hands on.
As kids, we were always warned to walk the other way if we ever came across rogues.
They were unpredictable, and because they didn't have a leader whom they were answerable to, they did what they pleased.
With the power of a wolf, a rogue was the worst person you'd want to cross, as they did whatever the saw fit according to their own moral compass.
The man was alone, as I would have expected of most rogues, but I still checked around to see if I could spot another one.
Luckily, there's wasn't any other.
If he had friends, they weren't around the diner.
Luckily for me, I wanted him to be alone.
And as I walked to take a seat in a booth that was empty, I saw his fingers twitch as he immediately lowered the menu.
He had undoubtedly caught my scent.
If there was one thing that always caught a rogue's attention, was the scent of another wolf. Especially if it was a woman's scent.
He looked around the room frantically with his eyes, before he finally narrowed it down to me.
I tried my best to act casually, as if I hadn't even noticed him.
And when I looked in his direction, I could already tell that he was trying his best to control himself.
I needed that, someone that I wouldn't have to answer any questions.
Since the first part of my plan had been successful, I wanted to go to the second part.
And that was inviting him over to my booth. I know.
It sounds crazy, but finding a rogue was the first part of the plan.
So, what did you expect to happen next?
Locking eyes with him, I signalled him with my hand to join me at my table, and the dude didn't hesitate.
He got up and rushed over to where I was, and then sat down next to me.
"You smell so beautiful." He said as he sat down and took a sniff of my hair.
'Weird....but I guess it's something rogues do.' I thought you myself, caught offguard with that behavior.
"Thank you. You're a rogue, aren't you?" I asked him, biting my lower lip seductively and eying him from top to bottom.
"From head to toe. Why, do you have a thing against rogues?" He asked, sounding offended.
"No. I actually have a thing for rogues." I said to him as I stretched out my hand to touch his bicep.
It was all a lie.
I was hating every single second of that, but I had to do it.
"Well then, why don't we go behind the dinner and I can show you what I have for you." He suggested.
Of course, I hadn't even gotten his name and the first thing that he wanted to do was smash.
I tried so hard not to roll my eyes at him, and that's when I realized that I couldn't do that for long.
I decided that I needed a new approach to my plan, and that that was not working out.
"I'm sorry, but I'll have to pass on that. I have to get going." I said to him as I tried getting up.
"And who told you that I was asking?"
