Chapter 36 Unchanged
Chapter 36 Unchanged
Hazel's POV
"What are you doing here?" He demanded as he placed the papers away.
Jordan looked like he was genuinely surprised by my presence.
"I'm here to talk." I answered him, closing the door behind me.
He paused, looked at me for a couple of seconds as if he was trying to figure out something from reading my face.
"I don't think that we have anything to talk about. Especially not after what happened the last time we saw each other." He dismissed as he walked back to his seat and sat down.
His eyes desperately searched through mine, and I had a feeling that he never expected me to find my way back to him after what he had done.
Despite his attempt at trying to play it cool, I could sense his confusion at what my aim was meeting him.
"Oh, we have a lot to talk about. Especially after what happened last time." I told him, pacing around the room slowly.
He was slowly starting to get irritated, but I had a feeling that he wasn't getting irritated because of me being there, but because he didn't expect me to be there.
I guess he had figured that ruining Logan's proposal was going to be the last blow against me to give him absolute clarity that I was never going to want to see him again.
"Where is Xavier? I told him that I don't want any visitors, especially not you." He inquired, trying to flip it and make it look like I was the one that was irritating him.
"Probably with Amanda, and she's buying me enough time to talk to you." I answered him confidently.
"You have to leave." He ordered me, thinking that I was just going to get up and leave.
"No." I answered him immediately and calmly.
"No?" He said in shock.
"I've given you a direct order and if you don't follow it, I'll lock you up in the dungeons." He threatened.
If he would have threatened me one month earlier than that, I would have probably walked out of that room.
I have been in those dungeons and trust me when I say they aren't where you want to even spend a night.
However, bluffs like those considering I knew the truth were nothing.
"And for how long are you going to lock me up for? Five months?" I asked him.
The question didn't make sense to him immediately, and I was ready to give him context.
"Because that's the number of months I have till I turn 24." I told him.
"That's also the exact nunber of months that are left until I lose my wolf, and become a witch just like how my mother's coven wants." I added.
His eyes flashed in surprise for a split second, but it was gone almost immediately.
I'm not even sure that I saw him surprised.
Jordan just looked at me like I was muttering gibberish.
"You should leave." He said, his voice lower and much more menacing that before.
I almost turned and left, but if I did that, I was going to lose the only chance that I was going to talk to him.
So, I gathered all the courage that I had and decided that I wasn't going to get cold feet until I completed what I was there to do.
"You didn't even ask me what I'm talking, because you already know.
I want to tell you that I also know everything. Thanks to you, the truth came to me." I told him.
"I said, leave!" He thundered, avoiding to look at me in the eyes.
"I'm not going anywhere because I know that you don't hate me.
For the five years that I was away, I used to put myself to sleep, crying and asking myself what did I do to deserve the rejection.
For five years I've been conflicting with my wolf over whether you even had any feelings towards me and I have never known peace with her inside my head.
But since I learnt the truth, I have been so in sync with her to levels that I didn't think existed.
And in five months, I'll lose my wolf and probably you too.
I know you can feel it, because I did the last time that uo shifted, you almost lost yourself.
You don't have long Jordan. You could go completely feral the next time that you shift and that, will be the end of you."
He didn't say anything as I spoke, and neither did he move.
Jordan just sat in his chair, like a statue, with absolutely no emotion on his face.
This made me want to continue talking and I did exactly that.
"I know that you never meant a single word that came out of your mouth about me. And it probably hurt you everytime you cut me down and did things to hurt me.
I now understand why you did all that.
It was to make sure that I don't want anything to do with you, so that it would make distancing easier for you.
I also know that you tried to negotiate with the witches and they turned against you.
They poisoned you so that you can't mate with me, and made your curse even stronger.
Jordan, if we don't fight this , they will win and I will lose my mate.
You don't have to say that you love me because I know that you won't.
However, every single action that you have taken from the day that you learnt we were mates, regardless of how devastating it was to me, compares to you standing at the edge of a cliff professing your love for me."
His lips twitched, but he didn't speak, not yet.
"And I won't let you sacrifice yourself even if it seems like the best thing to do.
I don't want to be a witch, neither do I want to be the queen of the witches.
I know you've already tried but I want us to try it together. There has to be a way for us to break the curse that's on you.
There also has to be a way for us to get rid of the poison that has been coursing through your body." I added.
That's when Jordan finally snapped. I expected him to side with me and have an open mind in finding the solution to the witches.
However, it was the complete opposite.
"I have looked everywhere Hazel! I have flipped every rock there is to flip, and read every writing there is to read.
There is no cure for my curse, and this is the only way that it can play out.
Your parents looked and and they failed. I looked and I failed.
This is the only way, and there's no need to start giving yourself any hope since this isn't a princess story with a happy ending.
We aren't going to embark on a journey to look for answers on breaking the curse. This is real life.
A solution won't come up just because you are involved and we won't break the curse.
You expect a happy ending, this is it." He thundered.
There was no emotion in his tone the entire time that he talked.
It was as if I was talking to a shell of a man.
"He has made up his mind and isn't ready to be given any false hope. Hazel, our mate had made up his mind and come to terms that he will have to go feral if it means saving us." Venus said, and for the first time, I heard her voice crack.
Neither of us could believe it.
Jordan hadn't even acknowledged any feelings for me, and no matter how much I wanted him to, I felt like he would never.
For him to actually say that he loved me, or even admit that he felt anything for me and that's why he decided that he was willing to lose his sanity for my sake, would make the sacrifice he was doing far much harder than it already was.
"I can't throw you in the dungeons, but I can throw you out. So Hazel, get out of my sight before I do something that I might regret." He warned me.
I didn't care what he said, but I wasn't going to just leave him there.
I was on a mission to fix what had been broken, and I wasn't going to let him be, knowing what he had gone through for my sake.
"I'm not leaving Jordan. I won't leave until...."
"... guards!!!" He roared, summoning them at once.
In a flash, around four guards were already standing in the room with me, all of them looking at me menacingly.
"Get her out of my pack house." He ordered them.
Seeing that things were going to get heated, I raised my hands in surrender and said, "There's no need for that. I'll show myself out."
But before I left, I looked at him and for the first time since I had started talking, our eyes locked.
"Jordan, you might have given up on finding an answer, but I haven't."
And with that, I was escorted out of the pack house by the guards you'd think I was a rival member of a different pack.
Once outside the gates, Amanda rushed to me from inside the house.
"What happened? Why did you just get escorted outside?" She asked.
"Jordan has made it clear that his decision is final." I answered her, and saw the moment her eyes filled with horror as she knew that Jordan was going ahead with his plan to go feral to save me.
"However, I won't let it happen. Even if it means I'll be the one to trade my life for his." I assured her.
