Chapter 90 CHAPTER 90
Michael’s POV
My wolf had stirred for the first time and I had heard from Evelyn through the matelink. Finally!
Barcelona.
The team had not included that in the search. I called Jasper on the phone.
“Get in here immediately. This is important.”
“I’m sorry, Alpha Michael. How important is it?” he asked. “I had to take a flight this morning. I went to look for Tamara.”
“Shit,” I said. Then I cupped the speaker with my palms and whispered into it. “We found her.”
“I’m so sorry,” he replied. “I’ll be there on the next available flight.”
I couldn’t wait for him. I lost her just by half an hour. I wasn’t going to let that happen again. “Meet me in Barcelona, Jasper. I’ll send the details.”
I rushed out of the room and stumbled into Megan on the way out. “Alpha Michael,” she called out, wiping a little bit of liquid that had spilled on my shirt. “You seem to be rushing out.”
“Yes,” I said, stepping away from her.
“You forgot,” she called out “Tonight is our house party.”
“I have urgent business at the office. I’ll be back before evening.”
I knew that if Rosaleen got a single hint that I was traveling out of the city, she’d know I had found Evelyn and she would warn him. They would be gone before I got there again.
So I didn't take the private jet.
I took a commercial flight to Barcelona and located the estate she mentioned.
It was not easy getting favors in Barcelona like New York. Although a couple of the people recognised me, they didn't really bother to go out of their way to make things easy for me. No one was on their toes to keep me comfortable.
“You said his name is Stefan,” the receptionist at the estate management office asked me for the fifth time. “There are a lot of people with that name here, amigo.”
“He… he is engaged to a lady. Stella.”
She snapped the gums she was chewing loudly. “That doesn’t help me at all either.”
“Can I see your manager?” I asked, irritated.
She glanced at a calendar beside her. “The manager doesn't show up on Wednesdays. He’s superstitious.”
I was losing my patience. “Is there anyone I can speak with?”
She looked at me for a long time, then continued chewing her gum. “The assistant manager.”
“Thank you,” I said, turning on my heels.
“He’s not in this building,” she called out. “Check the estate management office at the annex entrance.”
I finally found Eduardo after thirty gruesome minutes.
“I apologise, Alpha Michael. Not many people here are familiar with the impact of your family. What can I help you with?”
I leaned forward. It was better to stick to my story that I was looking for an old friend. If I mentioned that I was looking for someone who had been kidnapped, there was a very high chance that I'd be sent to the police to file a report. It would take time and Xavier would escape from my grasp again.
“I’m looking for someone, a friend, who lives in your estate. I know he moved in recently with his fiancee, Stella. His name is Stefan.”
He nodded. “It’s against our policies to give out our residents’ home addresses in such a way,” he replied. “But because I know you, Alpha Michael, I can give you their residential phone number.”
“No,” I said. “That would defeat the purpose of traveling all the way, Eduardo. It’s a surprise visit. You know me already. There’s no way I'll be going there to kill the couple. My name speaks of my integrity.”
He was skeptical.
“You should send your estate’s expansion plans to our social branch,” I said, looking at the calendar on his desk. “We may be able to do a thing or two together."
He smiled, pleased. “Of course, Alpha Michael. I’ve always known we would do big things together.”
He gave me the address and I rented a car, and drove to the house.
It was a two storey bungalow with tinted windows. The curtains were all drawn out. I met a man sitting underneath a shed, catching a break. I could tell he was the mower.
I approached him. “Hello, amigo.”
I stretched a cold bottle of water to him.
“Thank you,” he said, looking up and getting the bottle from me. He opened it and gulped the water rapidly. “That was refreshing. Thank you, sir,” he said.
I nodded and glanced at the house. I pulled out my phone from my pocket and showed him a picture of Xavier and Evelyn.
“Have you seen these people around?” I asked.
He looked at the photos and shook his head. “No, amigo.”
I pointed at the house. “That house over there. I think they live there.”
“Let me see that again,” he said, taking the phone from my hand. “Oh, I remember her. I saw her taking a stroll while I worked on the other lawn.”
That was great news.
“When was that?”
“Yesterday,” he said.
“Have you seen them today?”
He frowned. “What are you? Are you a cop or something?”
I shook my head. “Just looking for someone really important.”
He looked back at the house. “I haven’t seen the lady today. It’s been quiet. I guess she couldn’t take a walk because of the heat and the noise of the mower.”
I nodded. “Thank you.”
He doffed his hat.
I walked towards the house. This was it. After so many weeks, I was within a few yards of Evelyn Moon.
I opened the text message from Jasper. He was still at the airport. There were some sort of delays. I wasn’t sure I was going to wait for him. I would go in alone. I tapped against my pocket gently and felt the gun there. If the bastard proved too stubborn, I would not hesitate to use a bullet on him.
I rang the bell.
