Chapter 77 CHAPTER 77
Evelyn’s POV
I woke up to the sound of the gentle noise of a television. I looked around from the television to the vanity lined with glam products to the large bed on which I was lying on.
I creased my forehead as I felt a sharp headache. I raised my hand to massage my head and my eyes caught the beautiful stone in my finger that reflected the light.
Where am I?
My mind felt like a hollow space.
I rose up gently, convinced that I was perhaps in the afterlife. I ran my fingers on the bed. It was soft and plush and real. I moved to the vanity and touched every item on it. My image stared back at me as I tried to recognise my own face.
There was an envelope on the bedside table. I picked it up and pulled out the contact. It was a beautifully designed wedding invitation card.
Stella Moon and Stefan Heart.
Those names. They sounded familiar.
Was I the one getting married? I raised my hand towards my face again and stared at the gemstone sitting on my finger. A phone was lying on the bed. I had not noticed it earlier.
I walked towards the door and opened it. A corridor stretched before me and then a staircase that led down. In the sitting room, I could see a man who felt familiar.
“You are up,’ he said, rising to his feet and rushing up the stars towards me. “You shouldn’t be out of bed yet.”
He took my arm and led me back into the room.
“Where am I ?” I asked, saying the first words since i got up.
“Home,” he said, massaging my hand gently and smiling nervously.
“I… I don’t remember anything,” I said. “Who are you?”
He squeezed my hand. “I’m Stefan, your finance.” I thought of the names I had read on the wedding invitation. If he was Stefan, then my name was Stella. He reached for my other hand and held both of them. “You were involved in an accident, Stella. And we almost lost you.”
“An accident?"
He nodded. “About a week ago. You were asleep for three days before you woke up. Then you fell asleep at home again.”
I felt uneasy about what he was saying. I couldn’t describe the feeling but it was a feeling of discomfort in my chest, as though something was stirring and warning me that there was danger ahead.
Also, I had absolutely no injuries on my body.
Someone knocked on the door minutes later. The door was pushed open and a lady stepped in.
“This is Hilda,” Stefan said, rising up. “She is the nurse that has been taking care of you.”
Hilda smiled at me. “Hello, Miss Stella. I’m so happy to see that you are on your feet.”
She was petite and had her hair cropped short. She walked towards me and I noticed the tattoos on her skin. “I’ll check your vitals now,” she said, pulling out a small monitor from the bedside cupboard.
She wrapped a cuff over my arm and took the reading. “This looks perfect,” she said, smiling broadly. She faced Stefan. “She can begin to take a few steps around.”
“Thank you, Nurse Hilda," he said.
She nodded politely and headed for the door. Then she stopped. “If you need anything, just press that call button beside your bed.”
I saw the red button. “Okay,” I whispered.
“Have some rest,” he said, rising up. “The tailor for your dress will be here tonight.”
“Tonight?” I asked.
“Yes,” he answered. “The wedding is in a few days time. I’m so happy we don’t have to cancel it.”
He left.
I couldn’t sit still. Something was not right. If this was the man I was going to marry, why didn’t my heart feel any excitement for him? All I felt was fear and panic. The story about a crash didn’t make much sense to me either. I looked around. I was convinced I was being watched.
I found the camera sitting on the TV, facing my bed.
“No,” I muttered. “Something is definitely wrong.”
—
The tailor arrived as expected. I was surprised to see a man who was dressed up in a somewhat feminine outfit. He had some boisterous energy and his laughter was quite contagious. He teased me about my perfect figure.
“You have the figure of the mate of an Alpha,” he teased, wrapping the tape over my waist. “Now, I haven't seen that number in awhile.”
I laughed. “I guess I haven't really been eating for a few days. Right, Stefan?”
He grinned. “It’s always perfect whether you eat or not.”
He flipped through pages of beautiful gowns and asked me to select my top three. Then he'd work with the event planner.
“I don’t want something extra,” I said, ignoring all the flamboyant gowns.
When the event planner arrived, I was still yet to make my choices.
“I’ll work on the bodice,” he said. “Selecting a dress takes time.”
The event planner was the opposite of the tailor in appearance, but she talked just as much.
“A wedding is an event that one should not forget. It can only happen once in a lifetime. It’s not like a birthday.”
She showed me some of her work.
“If we have the right budget, I plan to make your wedding even bigger than Alpha Michael’s and Rosaleen's wedding, which is currently the most planned wedding,” she said,
Those names.
Steam rose up suddenly. “We don’t have the budget for a big event,” he said. “I’ll contact you with another plan. She needs to rest.”
He ushered the lady out without letting her say another word.
The following day, a different event planner showed up. A man, barely five feet two. “Hello. My name is Rio, the event planner.”
“We have one…”
“No,” Stefan said. “She couldn’t work with our budget. We’ll work with Rio.”
I tossed the names in my head. Alpha Michael and Rosaleen. I wanted to ask the first event planner more about these people.
