Chapter 75 CHAPTER 75
Evelyn's POV
“Please,” I begged her. “Don't tell Xavier.”
She stared at me, her expression softening. “Who did you call?”
“I can't tell you, Carmen. But please, don't tell Xavier.”
She stared at her phone screen. “He's trying to help you. I know you can't see it. But he's trying.”
“No,” I stepped closer to her. “Xavier has a sick obsession with me. He took me against my will and brought me here. He made up all those stories. He and one other lady, Rosaleen. They did all this. Please you have to help me.”
She didn't look like she believed me.
“If what he's saying is true, then why is he keeping me locked away from others? I'm not crazy, Carmen.”
She sighed.
“Okay. I won't tell him but you have to tell me who you called.”
I didn't think lying to her was gling to help me.
“Alpha Michael,” I said.
She raised her brows. “The same one?”
I nodded. “He's looking for me, Carmen. You can call him to find out if you don't believe me.”
She tucked the phone inside her pocket. “You should have asked, Evelyn. Instead of sneaking around. I might have said no, but I'll trust you if you don't try to sneak around.”
She wasn't going to call him.
“Please, Carmen. I really need your help. Please.”
She stepped away. “I'll check back on you in the evening.” She glanced at the untouched dinner. “Make sure you eat something.”
She left.
Hearing Alpha Michael’s voice had awoken something in me. It gave me proof that he was indeed looking for me and everything I'd heard and been told were lies. I was determined, more than ever, to escape and return to him.
I looked around the room for a heavy object. If Carmen betrayed me, which was very possible, then I had only a few minutes left. I locked the door and found a wooden candle holder. I smashed it against the window. Once. Twice. Thrice. The glasses shattered down and it triggered the burglary system.
I peeped down through the broken window. I was many metres above the ground. It was likely that I wouldn't survive a jump, so I'd wait.
Xavier arrived before the security.
“What the hell are you doing?” he yelled banging at the door. “Open the godamn door.”
I stared at the closed door stubbornly. He had made the mistake of leaving the keys in my side of the door this morning.
Soon the security arrived.
“Open the door, ma'am,” I heard one of them say.
I walked to the door and I heard Xavier's voice. “She's not fine mentally. Please let me handle it.”
“I've been kidnapped and being held against my will,” I yelled through the door.
There was another loud bang on the door. “Open the door, ma'am.”
I reached for the key and turned it in. Three hefty looking men stormed into the room. One of them reached for me and secured my hands behind me.
“Let me go,” I twisted.
The other went to inspect the damage done and the third man spoke to Xavier.
“We don't accommodate people with special conditions as such here. It’s against the rules.”
“I'm sorry,” Xavier said. “We'll be leaving today. I'll pay for the damages.”
“No!” I yelled. “I'm not insane. You have to get me away from him.”
The one who had gone to inspect the damage turned and joined the others. “We are lucky she didn't jump off. No one can survive that.”
Xavi nodded sadly.
It was obvious these men weren't going to listen to me. I bent forward and dug my teeth into the arm of the man holding me. I bit so hard that I tasted blood. He jumped back in pain and I bolted. I didn't make it far. Another man grabbed me. I wrestled. Xavi reached for a syringe in his pocket and drove it into my arms.
“I'm so sorry for the inconveniences…”
Those were the last words I heard.
—
I was back in the cave, dressed in a flowing gown.
My fingers traced symbols on the wall as I walked in.
They glowed.
The humming sound.
Then like a gentle whisper, I heard my name. “Evelyn.”
I woke up. My body was too weak for the shock of the nightmare. I was in a different room. There was food on a tray beside me.
I closed my eyes.
The glowing symbols. The matelink. Was this drama telling me something all these while? Could I feel my mate bond?
I tried but I felt nothing.
“What are you trying to say, mum?” I whispered as tears spilled from my eyes.
The day passed and I refused to eat anything. I had no idea where Xavier had taken us to.
That night, a doctor arrived and he passed some fluid into my body. I was already hallucinating from dehydration.
“She needs to eat,” I heard him say. “This cannot sustain her.”
I closed my eyes. I dreamt of Michael. I wasn't sure if it was a dream or my imagination. It was the day at the store and the kiss under the rain. Then the morning on his bed when he had promised to make me his for good.
I dreamt of Rosaleen too. I saw her smiling at me and showing the ring Michael had given to me on her finger.
“He's mine,” she whipered and cackled.
When I woke up, it was evening. I felt a little bit stronger. I watched the fluid dropping inside my vein. When I rose up, I saw him.
He smiled.
“Very soon, you'll forget everyone, Evelyn. You’ll forget the life you lived and all you'll have is me.”
I blinked and realised too late what he meant. He was clearing my memory. I reached for the IV line and tried to yank it off.
“Not that,” he said. “It's inside you already. All we have ahead of us is beautiful days, Evelyn.”
