Chapter 116 CHAPTER 116
Rosaleen’s POV
Anna Moon.
Her name sounded familiar. It rang a bell, and I wondered if she was the same Moon as Evelyn Moon. I didn’t know if Evelyn had a sister. I’d never heard of her. But then, I’d never heard of Xavier either.
“Anna Moon,” I called out, reading the name off her name tag.
She raised her head up and looked at me. “Yes, ma’am.”
“Are you by any chance related to Evelyn Moon?”
She hesitated for a while. “No. Not at all,” she replied. She moved away quickly and busied herself with some stuffs in the drawers which she moved around very noisily. It seemed as though she was avoiding any more questions.
“You remind me a little of someone I know,” I said. “Have you been told before that you look a little like Alpha Michael?”
She stopped the rustling and rose up. “I have been told that I look like a lot of people. I wish it meant that I was an heiress to the Greywoods,” she said.
The more I watched her, the more I could see Michael’s childhood and boyish face in hers. “If I may ask, who are your parents?”
She made no reply. She inspected the IV line and looked over at the food on the cupboard. “Make sure you start with something light,” she said. Then she looked at me. “We aren’t friends, ma’am.”
“Can we be friends?” I asked. “I don’t really have much friends around.”
She stared at me. “Do you have money? Like, are you rich?”
I remembered the day at the boutique and the small apartment Alpha Michael had rented out for me. “I have rich friends," I said.
She shrugged. “You can introduce them to me.”
She walked away. I smiled. I liked her. She seemed like someone who knew exactly what she wanted and she stuck to the plan. I knew I could be friends with someone like her.
The police chief arrived shortly after. He came with his note pad and stared at me like I was a specimen.
“How’s your memory?”
I nodded. “Good.”
“Great,” he said. “Can you still tell us exactly what happened to you on that afternoon at moon’s enterprises?”
I didn’t remember the exact story I had told them, but I knew what I wanted to say. So i told them the same lie. I arrived at the office because I wanted to have a word with her about taking my man. She got violent with me and struck me on the head. Recounting the story made me relive the fear and the machine beeped louder as my blood pressure spiked.
“We’d like you to know that Evelyn Moon has denied this,” he said. “If you’ll be willing to press charges against her, there’s someone who’s willing to sponsor you.”
I smiled. Perhaps I had a friend.
“Who is it?” I asked.
“It’s anonymous,” he replied.
I was definitely going to press charges, and having a sponsor was more reason to. “Tell this anonymous sponsor that I will be pressing charges against Evelyn Moon.”
—
I woke up in the middle of the night panting and sweating. I had a nightmare. Xavier was smashing my head in my dream. I reached for the bedside switch and flipped it up. Light flooded the room.
Xavier.
I had to get rid of him, I thought. Unless he was the anonymous sponsor. I strongly doubted it. I suspected it would be Alpha Raymond. He would be willing to get rid of Evelyn Moon in any way possible.
It meant I had to make sure I removed Xavier once and for all.
My phone was nowhere to be found. Jasper had not arrived since he marched out of the room. I pressed the blue button and waited for any of the nurses to arrive.
When the door opened, I saw Anna Moon walk in.
“You again,” I said, pleased to see her.
“Do you need something, ma’am?”
I leaned up. “Don’t you have something like a shift here?” I asked.
“We do,” she stated. Then she suddenly relaxed. “I’m on punishment,” she said, mischief glinting in her eyes.
“What could an innocent and sweet lady like you have done?”
She stepped forward. “I got familiar with a patient. Apparently, it’s wrong to call and ask my rich patient if he needed someone to take care of him.”
It took me a few seconds before I got the fact that she had been trying to pimp herself to a patient. “Oh, you are naughty, Nurse Anna,” I said.
“Call me Anna,” she replied. “You said you have rich friends?”
“A couple of them,” I answered, figuring she had warmed up to me because of that.
“I want you to introduce me to them. Rich girls and boys. I don’t deserve to spend all my youth wasting in a hospital.”
I agreed with her. Unfortunately, none of my rich friends wanted to talk to me. But I wasn't going to tell her that.
“You know who I am, right?”
“Everyone does. Some people call you a gold digger, but I see nothing wrong with that. What’s the use of having gold buried? It needs to be dug out, and digging isn’t all that easy.”
“You are right,” I said, impressed by her statement. There was no shame in digging for gold, and I was going to strike gold again. Soon.
“All I need to do right now, is get Alpha Michael to his senses. That girl, Evelyn Moon, had used some dark spells on him.”
She remained silent.
“I am the rightful mate of Alpha Michael. She just has to go -”
“I can help you get rid of Evelyn Moon for good,” she said suddenly.
I looked at her. “What?”
“I’m her step sister, and I know things about her that would ruin her for good if they ever came out.”
“You are -”
“You have to give me a sizable amount of money when you return to Alpha Michael and you must connect me with your rich friends," she continued.
I nodded. “What is this secret?”
