Chapter 115 CHAPTER 115
Rosaleen’s POV
I woke up and immediately felt a tightness around my head. I raised my hand to touch my head and I felt a smoothness - the smoothness of my scalp. I brought my hand to my face. They were my fingers. I touched my head again and felt the smoothness. My hair was gone.
I parted my lips and tried to produce some words. My cry came out rough and barely inaudible. My throat felt dry and painful.
“Hey,” I tried again, a bit louder this time.
I noticed the beeping noise of the monitor now, the IV line in my hand and then I remembered the incident at the office.
Xavier.
I had survived.
I felt a sudden chill in my body. The door opened and a nurse walked in. She looked friendly. “You are finally awake, ma’am,” she said, walking towards me.
I blinked, wondering why I saw Alpha Michael briefly in her face. She inspected the IV bag. “You’ve had enough. You should be ready for some food tonight.”
I looked at the empty room around me. There were no get-well-soon cards, no flowers, no fruits. Nothing. It seemed no one had bothered to visit me.
“Did anyone come?” I asked.
She didn’t look at me. “Your brother has been very helpful,” she replied.
I guess she meant Jasper.
“What about Alpha Michael Greywood?” I asked. “Was… Did he come here at all?”
“No, ma’am,” she said, her face tightening a little. “Only your brother has been here.”
“What happened to my hair?” I asked her, suddenly remembering the smoothness my fingers had touched.
She glanced up at me from the charts she was recording. “The doctor will explain it to you, ma’am. Part of your hair was removed for the surgery.”
“Removed?” I asked, touching my head again.
She returned to her job. “The doctor will be here to explain it to you, ma’am.”
She continued her work in silence for the next few minutes. I noticed she had lost the radiant smile with which she had greeted me earlier. And I noticed that I wasn't mistaken when I noticed that she looked a little like Alpha Michael. I could have teased her about it, but I wasn't in the right mood and she possibly wasn’t too.
When the doctor arrived a couple of minutes later, he had a broad smile on his face. He seemed very pleased to see that I was awake.
“Welcome back, Miss Blackwood,” he said, his hands in his pocket.
“From what?” I asked.
“You were in a sleep for a long time. How do you feel? Any pains? Aches?”
I touched my throat. “Dry and hurtful. What happened to my hair?”
He glanced at it. I was the only one who was yet to see the state of my head. “We had to shave off some hair to open up your skull. The hit to your head caused your brain to swell very rapidly. We’ll have to see if you manage to survive without any damages.”
“Damages?”
He stepped forward with a light pen in his eyes, which he flashed into my eyes. He asked me a dozen questions. Then he made me walk. He seemed satisfied after all the tests.
“I have to say we did a fantastic job,” he said, pocketting his pen torch. “Your hair will grow back in a matter of months.”
Just then, Jasper walked in. He glanced at me briefly, but he didn’t look excited to see that I was awake. He only looked relieved.
“We’ll keep you for another few days and monitor you before we discharge you,” the doctor said, then turned around. He patted Jasper fondly on the shoulder and walked out of the room.
“You don’t seem happy to see me,” I said to Jasper.
He glanced at me briefly and fiddled with some items on the bedside cupboard.
“Jasper,” I called out.
“Life isn’t all about you all the time, Rosaleen,” he snapped.
He was pretty upset. I didn’t want him here with me. Alpha Micahel was supposed to be by my side.
“Did Alpha Michael come?” I asked, ignoring his mood.
He spun around. “You should stop living in delusion,” he spat out. “You should be grateful you survived this. And maybe stop trying to ruin other people’s lives.”
I frowned. “She did this to me. Why should he be with her and leave me alone?”
“I don’t have the answers to that, Rosaleen. But I find it hard to believe you. Did Evelyn Moon really do this to you? Or are you making up stories?”
I sat up, groaning. “How can you say that to me?”
He stepped closer. “How?” he repeated. “I shouldn't even be here because I can’t stand you. You deceived me and Tamara. Took away her money and hid something important from me. Then you manipulated her to lie against someone you couldn’t compete with.”
“Jasper -”
“No,” he said, lowering his voice, but the anger in his eyes burned brightly. “You should stay the fuck away from Alpha Michael and Evelyn Moon. They want to be together. You don’t deserve his attention and perhaps, he should be suing you.”
He stepped back while I watched him dumbfounded. He fumbled a little with the items on the cupboard for a while, then headed towards the door. “I’ll be out,” he said, shutting the door behind him.
I sat in silence, trying to force myself not to cry. I had no one now, but not for long. Soon, I would be back on my throne and everyone who had looked down on me would be sorry they ever did. So I closed my eyes and plotted. I was going to stick with my story. I will find a way to reach out to Xavier. This was the chance to take down Evelyn Moon for good.
The nurse returned in the evening. She said her pleasantries and went to work. I watched her without speaking to her. Then my eyes landed on the name tag sitting on her chest. Anna Moon.
