Chapter 110 CHAPTER 110
Evelyn’s POV
I pressed my phone against my ears and listened to the ringing sound. He didn’t pick up. There was so much going on in one day.
First, I had seen the news that Xavier had escaped from prison. Now, there was the news that Alpha Michael had officially called off his engagement with Rosaleen and had announced me as his mate. I dialed his number again. We had agreed that he would continue with his engagement to Rosaleen until after the elections. Why had he gone ahead to make an announcement suddenly and without informing me?
I got into my car and began to drive towards the mansion. He was ruining his father’s reputation by getting involved with me and there was no way he would win the elections when the news about my real identity came out. What was he thinking?
I grunted and stepped on the gas. Another driver speeding in the opposite direction almost crashed into my car and I stepped on the brake, cursing. If I examined the situation candidly, perhaps I was pleased that Rosaleen was getting kicked in the ass finally. I was pleased that Alpha Michael was giving her what she deserved. But if we lived in a sane world, maybe, going out to declare his love for me so openly would have been perfect. Our world was far from perfect.
The security opened the gates and I drove in.
“Is Alpha Michael in?” I asked, whining down the window glass.
“Yes, ma’am,” he replied. He seemed very pleased to see me again.
“Thank you,” I said.
I parked my car and walked into the house. Ever since I left the mansion on that day Xavier had kidnapped me, I had not been within. It felt like a lifetime away when I lived there and I was in love with the man who controlled the estate. Perhaps I still loved him, but I was wiser now. Love was not enough.
The housekeeper escorted me to his study even though I knew the way there. I tried to act as though I was visiting his home for the first time. She knocked on the door and turned the handle.
“Miss Evelyn Moon is here,” she said.
She stepped out and I stepped into the room. His eyes remained fixed on me as I walked in. So fixated that I felt like my bones were being melted by them.
“Did you see the news then?” he said, still watching me. “Does that give you enough proof that I mean what I say?”
His words melted my heart and I felt my knees buckle. “Micahel,” I whispered.
“If you came here to tell me that I made a mistake by announcing it, I know,” he continued. “I have no regrets.”
He pointed to the sofa and I declined. “We talked about it. We were supposed to wait till after the elections.”
He walked towards me and I felt my heart pounding wildly in my chest. This man had so much control over me, why did I think I could just walk into his study and pretend I was in control?
“I don’t care about the elections,” he said. “I don’t care about anything. Don’t you understand, Evelyn? I can’t have all of this if you are not here with me.”
My breath hitched. “Alpha Raymond is not going to like this,” I managed to say.
He was standing in front of me now, and I could see the strain on his shirt where his muscles stretched them. I thought of the days when I would run my fingers, tracing lines over his beautiful body.
“Do you really care about my father?” he asked.
I stepped back. “Michael,” his name fell from my tongue.
He stepped forward, until he had me against the wall. His eyes fell on my lips, lust evident in them. His desire was plain and I wondered if he could see that I wanted him so plainly too.
“You don’t have to worry about Alpha Raymond,” he said, tilting my chin up. “I love the new fire in your eyes,” he said.
His second arm stretched beside me, with his palm resting on the wall, caging me. I felt warmth between my thighs. “You can’t come this close to me, Michael,” I breathed out.
“Why not?” he asked, the tip of his nose teasing mine and his breath becoming more and more ragged. “You are my wife.”
“The contract,” I said. “No touching. No affection.”
He moved away and I watched the muscle in his temple tensed. “Do you care about that contract that much?” he asked.
“I’m here because of it,” I answered, watching him. He seemed amused.
My phone vibrated in my pocket and I ignored it.
“We broke that part of the contract a long time ago,” he said. His eyes fell to my tummy and remained there. “We have a baby coming to prove that.”
I was about to respond when my phone vibrated again. I reached for it. It was from the office. I swiped the green icon.
“Hello?”
“Miss Evelyn, there is a big problem,” she said, panting. “The Police are here.”
“The police?” I asked and Alpha Michael looked at me.
“Yes. A woman was attacked in your office and the police are looking for you.”
“A woman?”
I turned around and began to walk out of the study. “I’ll be there soon.”
Alpha Michael followed me. “What is going on?” he asked. “What does the police want?”
“There’s been an accident in the office,” I replied, rushing off.
“Wait,” he called out. “You don’t look like you are in the right frame of mind to drive.”
He was right. I was quite shaken.
When we got to the company, I rushed in and I met a police officer waiting for me.
“Are you Miss Evleyn Moon?” he asked.
“Yes, yes,” I replied.
“You are needed for questioning,” he said.
Alpha Michael stepped in between us before I could process the statement.
“A woman was severely injured in your office and has identified you as the assaulter,” he said, reading his note. “Rosaleen Blackwood.”
