Chapter 32 Poisoned Truth
Isabella’s POV
“What the fuck did you just say?!”
Landon’s voice thundered through the entire room. He was gripping the healer by the front of her dress, dragging her forward so violently that her feet barely touched the ground. The poor woman’s eyes were wide with pure terror, her hands clutching at his wrist as she dangled there.
“Repeat it,” he snarled, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous whisper that was somehow more dangerous than his barking. “Repeat. What. You. Just. Said!”
The healer was shaking terribly now, her voice coming out in a frightened, broken mumble as she opened her mouth to speak.
“S…she…she had a miscarriage, Alpha. She has lost the baby.”
The words slammed into me like a physical blow to the chest, and for one horrible second, my entire world went completely still. “No…” I whispered, hot tears flooding my eyes instantly. “No, please…not my baby…”
Landon released the healer so suddenly that she stumbled backward and nearly fell to the floor. With a savage growl that echoed through the entire mansion, Landon started destroying everything in sight.
“Fuckkkkk!!!”
His arm swept across the side table in one brutal motion, sending bottles, jars, and metal instruments crashing to the floor where they shattered into countless pieces.
He grabbed a heavy wooden chair by the side and hurled it against the far wall with terrifying force, the sheer impact shattering it into pieces.
Any and everything that he got his hands on, books, cups, even the metal tray Sarah had brought earlier — everything flew through the air and smashed against the walls.
“How did this happen?” I cried bitterly, tears streaming down my face uncontrollably as the sound of my own sobs cut through the sound of breaking glass and splintering wood that filled the room.
“My baby… I lost my baby… Why?”
“How exactly did this happen, Isabella?” Clara’s voice cut through my sobs as she stepped closer to the bed, her eyes narrowing with suspicion. “Don’t tell me you intentionally drank something to get rid of the baby?”
I shook my head quickly, barely able to utter any words through the overwhelming grief and the sharp, lingering pain in my abdomen. “I didn’t… I swear I didn’t do anything… I would never…”
“Clara, stop this right now!”
Sarah immediately cut in, her calm voice turning firm with protective anger. “Can’t you see she’s in agony? She just lost her child. Accusing her at this moment is cruel and wicked…for once in your life have some decency!”
Without uttering a word in response, Clara ignored her completely, her gaze still taking all over me in with suspicion. “Answer me, you filthy rogue! What did you take? Only something taken deliberately could cause a miscarriage this suddenly…”
“….you better start speaking the truth, rogue.”
Before I could even part my lips to defend myself again, the healer’s voice cut through the tension, her voice hesitant but clear.
“Alpha…” she turns to face Landon, “I can smell it on her. She must have taken the moon-bleed root…because that is the only herb in Silver Moon that can force a miscarriage in a pregnant she-wolf. I’m very certain she drank it not long ago.”
The silence that followed immediately after the healer’s words was thick and suffocating, filling the entire room like a plague. For a terrifying second, Landon went deathly still.
“I—“
I didn't get to finish my words, because before I could even open my mouth to speak or explain, he crossed the room in fast motions. His hand shot out, gripping me by the collar of my already blood-stained gown,
He yanked me up from the bed with terrifying strength, slamming me against the nearest wall.
“Why?!” He barked, his eyes blazing with pure, uncontained rage as his large, powerful hand wrapped around my throat, squeezing just enough to restrict my air but not enough to completely cut it off.
Not yet.
“Why did you drink it? Was this your revenge against me? Because you hate me? Because you despise me so much that you would kill my own child just to hurt me?”
Tears began to spill down my face uncontrollably as I clawed weakly at his wrist with both hands.
“Please… let me go… I swear I didn’t know… I’m innocent… Why would I remove my own baby? You’re the one who never wanted this child in the first place…But I accepted my baby… I wanted to have this child even though it was from a monster like you..”
My voice shattered completely into heartbroken sobs, the pain in my abdomen getting worse with every ruthless grip of Landon’s hand on my neck. But it was nothing close to the pain in my heart…which was a thousand times worse.
I had lost the only thing keeping me grounded in the cruel world. And now the father of that child believed I had done it on purpose all because of some stupid revenge?
“Landon, stop!” Sarah rushed to him desperately, grabbing his arm with both hands as she tried to pull his fingers away from my throat. “She’s still in terrible pain… she just had a miscarriage! Let her go right now!”
In one swift motion, he shoved Sarah away with his free hand, not hard enough to send her stumbling back several steps onto the floor. His grip on my throat tightened again, making black spots dance at the edges of my vision.
“Better start talking!” he demanded, his voice shaking with raw rage. “Or I’ll rip you into shreds right now!”
“I…I,” the words died in my throat as I tried to speak, through my tears and overwhelming terror, the words finally tumbled out in a desperate, broken rush.
“I swear…the last thing I drank… was the herbal tea that Clara brought to my room…She said it was good for the baby’s strength.”
The second I uttered those words, Landon’s eyes widened in shock. His head snapped toward Clara so fast I actually heard his neck crack.
“What?”
