Chapter 229 Part 2 Chapter 55

Chapter 229 Part 2 Chapter 55
Idara

“How do you know that name?” Mr. Gabe suddenly asked.

That was when it clicked.

The name my mother had just called him—it was the same name she had mentioned some time ago, the one who got tricked into getting pregnant for a werewolf who knew fully well she might not come out alive. The name of her friend.

Sofie.

My mother didn’t respond immediately. She just stared at him, her expression distant, almost as if she were seeing her lost friend standing right in front of her.

I guessed he must look a lot like her.

“Oh… sorry,” I quickly stepped in, trying to ease the tension. “I think my mom just mistook you for her friend.”

At that, my mother lowered her gaze.

“You must be her child,” she finally said, her shoulders sagging slightly.

Mr. Gabe stepped closer, his eyes fixed on her.

“And I’m guessing… you knew her?” he asked carefully.

My mother lifted her head again, meeting his gaze, while I stood there, silently watching everything unfold.

Then, suddenly, she spoke again.

“I’m just glad you don’t look like that foolish man who got a human pregnant, knowing it would cost her life.”

The shift in the air was immediate.

I saw his pupils dilate.

“Must everyone keep reminding me that I killed my mother?” he said, running a hand through his hair in frustration.

My eyes widened.

“Remind you that you killed your mother?” my mom repeated, her voice rising slightly.

He gave a small, bitter smile.

“Yes. That I’m the child who killed his mother… and my father’s mate.”

The bitterness in his voice was unmistakable.

“Did your father tell you that?” my mother asked sharply.

“Every day,” he replied without hesitation.

That was all it took.

Anger flared in my mother’s eyes instantly.

“Is he still alive?” she demanded.

Mr. Gabe nodded. “Very much so.”

A strange smile appeared on my mother’s face.

“Can you take me to him?”

Something about that request made my stomach twist.

It didn’t feel right.

It felt… dangerous.

“Why would you want to visit him, Mom?” I finally spoke up after staying quiet for so long.

She turned to me, her expression calm—but her words were anything but.

“So I can kill him.”

Silence fell over all of us.

Complete, stunned silence.

No one spoke.

No one moved.

Even I didn’t know how to react to what she had just said.

Then, as if nothing had happened, she broke the tension herself.

“Come inside for tea,” she said calmly.

And somehow… he agreed.

We all went in together, Ralia silently following by my side, observing everything without a word.

Mr. Gabe was offered a seat, but I noticed his attention never left my mother. His gaze stayed on her, filled with something I couldn’t quite place.

My mom pulled me aside into the kitchen, clearly wanting to speak privately—but we both knew it was pointless.

Wolves could hear everything.

“Well… that was a bit extreme,” I said quietly.

She shook her head as she began preparing the tea.

“No. I meant every word,” she replied firmly. “How could Derek tell his own son that he killed Sofie, when he was the one responsible?”

The pain in her voice was unmistakable.

“If he truly loved her, he would have never gotten her pregnant in the first place,” she added.

I nodded slowly as she poured the tea into small cups.

She set the kettle down and sighed deeply.

“There’s something I never told you,” she said, turning to me.

Her eyes briefly flickered toward the table where Mr. Gabe sat with his back to us.

But I knew he could hear.

Maybe… she knew it too.

“I was there when he was born,” she continued softly. “And I was there when she took her last breath.”

Her voice grew distant, pulled back into memory.

“At first, she hated him… for lying to her. For not telling her the consequences of carrying a child like his.”

She paused, her eyes filling with tears.

“But the moment she held her baby…”

A tear slipped down her cheek.

“She kissed his head and said, ‘Even if I die… a part of me will still live on in this world.’”

My chest tightened.

My mother looked at me again, a sad smile on her face.

“She loved her son, Idara. Deeply. And even though I hated him at first for taking her away from me… I knew it wasn’t his fault.”

Her expression hardened slightly.

“But for Derek to make him believe he killed her… knowing she chose to give her life for him…” she trailed off, shaking her head. “It makes me furious.”

She carefully arranged the teacups on a tray.

Then, just before picking it up, she added quietly—

“She even gave him his name. It was her father’s.”

And with that, she turned and walked back toward the table.

I followed behind her, my thoughts heavy with everything I had just heard.

When my mom placed the tray on the table and handed him a cup of tea, he accepted it with a quiet, “Thank you.”

He didn’t ask any more questions. Instead, he simply took a sip, as though lost in thought.

My mom offered Ralia a cup as well, and she accepted it politely. Soon, we were all seated.

“Ah, Idara,” my mom suddenly said, turning to me, “tell me… how is that guy treating you?”

I nearly choked on my tea.

That guy?

She couldn’t possibly be referring to Helio like that.

“Well…” I started, carefully setting my cup down and clearing my throat, “for one, he treats me well.”

I hoped she would leave it at that.

There were other people here, after all.

“He better,” she replied immediately. “Or I’ll come there myself and take you away from him.”

That earned a small laugh from Mr. Gabe.

“I don’t think he would allow that,” he said, shaking his head slightly.

My mom clicked her tongue. “I suppose you’re right.”

Then she added, almost thoughtfully, “I wonder why he didn’t come with you today. I wanted to thank him for sending help when that silly girl barged into my house.”

At her words, Marilyn instantly came to mind.

“So… she must have gone back home by now, I presume?” my mom continued.

I cleared my throat again, and she immediately noticed.

“She hasn’t?” she asked, concern creeping into her voice.

I shook my head. “Not yet.”

She blinked but didn’t press further.

“Well, that’s for the Alpha to decide,” Mr. Gabe spoke up calmly. “I must say… he doesn’t joke when it comes to his wife.”

That statement made my cheeks heat up instantly.

I felt my mom’s gaze shift toward me, and without saying anything, I quickly picked up my cup again, pretending to focus on my tea.

Then, under her breath, she muttered softly—

“Typical werewolves.”

And she took another sip.
