Twenty Four
Twenty Four
Abigail's POV
I halted when I heard the warning but I was very happy that finally it was coming to pass. I didn't have to waste all my time nor energy to make sure that I finally got everything that I wanted for. It was so lovely that I had to wait all day just to assume that there was probably something that was never going to happen.
I should have known that there was something fishy about the message. I know that he was very adamant and that he enjoyed making people know that they shouldn't dare him one bit. There was now needle to fall into that trap. It was a dangerous pit that one has to be wary of. I would rather not have anything to do than dare him because I knew that the end result was probably death.
Taking a wide look at everything that has been happening, I think that I don't have any choice but to admit that probably I didn't have any choice than to just return to my quarters and only hope that nothing changes with my duty.
"Thank you so much. I don't know what to say to you except thank you." I replied.
The maid didn't reply to me and I felt like a fool. I should have realized that they weren't going to consider me as someone that they needed to have a conversation with. I watched her run away.
As I proceeded through to my room, I bumped into someone sending me falling backward. Oh my goodness, can this stop already? I don't want to be in a position where I have to stress myself about a lot of things.
"We keep bumping into each other. If that's not a sign then I don't know what is. Tell me, what do you do around here?"
I stared at him in confusion wondering what he was trying to achieve with the noise that he was making all around. It was annoying to say the least but even at that. I would rather chew grain than admit that there is a problem somewhere that I can't fix. Was he kidding me? Why was she speaking to me? Did he want to land me in trouble? That must be his plans because this was probably the most hilarious thing that I must have heard anyone say in a very long time. I was tired and stressed and I didn't have the time to also make friends. I didn't have the patience to think that anyone would be that interested in me after everything that has happened.
"You don't speak?" He replied.
I rubbed my sore head instead wondering why he was talking to me when he could just go on his way. It wasn't going to end well given the fact that he was just going to feel like he was doing me a huge favor when in reality he wasn't. I didn't know what to reply. That must be how socially awkward I had become.
"Hello? Are you sure that you're fine? I mean... It's just one of those things right... Are you sure that you can hear me? You look pale. We need to get you to the Pack Clinic."
I jolted from my frozen state and rushed toward my room. Or at least tried to rush. I think that was the word because I was feeling very tired with how things were going. I didn't think that there would be any major difference though.
"I- thank you for your concern but I need to leave."
He grabbed my arm before I could run away and I groaned internally. What part of leaving me alone did this man not understand? Did it mean that he didn't care about whatever I was going through as long as it helped him to talk to him?
"What do you want to talk to me about? I have chores to do. Why are you delaying me?"
He glanced at me for a minute and I rolled my eyes. I wasn't really in the mood for all this nonsense today. It was going to annoy me if at the end of the day I discovered that he was trying to send me on an errand. I didn't have a problem with that, what I did have a problem with however was the fact that he was trying to act like there is something that i didn't understand.
"You look familiar." He replied with his gaze narrowing at me. There was a way that he stared at me almost looking like he was seeing my very soul. I didn't feel at ease with that. I also didn't enjoy the way that he was scrutinizing me. I would have preferred something or someone else. The amount of attention he showered me was too much for me to comprehend.
I stared at him for a minute and yanked my hand away from his hold. He was trying to make me forget the reason I was in this condition in the first place. It was as if he took the time off to just stare at me while I stared at him watching and trying to understand what exactly was going on.
"I'm sorry I don't know you."
"You do know me, why are you pretending not to? It's quite misleading."
Well, I didn't mind misleading people.
"Tell me why you're interested in knowing who I am. Are you new to this pack?" I inquired, although I didn't think that it was true because I had heard that Daniel didn't admit people into the pac often so I wondered where and how this was possible.
"Tell me, what are the other things that you were supposed to be doing but right now, you don't look like you can do them anymore. I'm sorry to say but you look like a shell of yourself. It's almost as if you are afraid of flying."
Now, not only did he have something to say about me, he was also giving analysis about my life. It was just the best, the very best that one could encounter.
I stared at him. " As much as I'd love to engage you, I think I still need to go. Thanks for your time or not. I don't really think that I have the time nor the energy for this."
"Avoidant tactics. Is that how you go about without confronting your problems? I don't think that's good enough. I don't mean to offend you though."
I shot him a grim smile. " Well, I'm not offended, have a nice day and I hope not to see you again." I added, before rushing off. I would never be so unfortunate enough to be caught in the midst of a problem. It would have been better if I was just looking from my cell.
As I was running, I crashed into someone who was also carrying some goods. It shattered to the ground and I winced when I heard the glass shatter without repair. Oh, Laurie was going to make my life miserable.
I ducked instantly when I knew that I was going to be hit. It was just one of the things that I expected but I wasn't not also expecting him to attack me that way. I was feeling stumped because I knew what was coming and this time around, it wasn't anyone's fault. Rather, it was mine and mine only. I would not really have the time to explain before the lady descended on me.
I allowed her to hit me if that would help calm her anger. I was also awake that she was probably thinking about the consequences she was about to face but I didn't mind anything that they were doing.
"Thank you so much because you're going to be the one that would explain to her that you made me make the mistake that I did. I am not even angry that you're trying to make me mad. I don't care about you one bit. You will explain to Luna Laurie that you're the one who threw away my stuff and I will gladly watch her make your life miserable. Thanks for the problem. I don't think that I would have it any other way."
I sighed because I knew for a fact that she was right. Laurie was going to prey on my mistake and make it look like I had committed the worst crime on earth. I didn't know what to expect, but could I be more surprised about whatever decision that she made now? It was just what she was used to doing now.
"Now, head over with me." She commanded.
I followed after her begrudgingly. I was the one who put myself in this mess no one could even tell me otherwise but instead of me beginning to look for the people to blame, I had already made peace with myself and I think that was the best decision that I would ever make. It was just very simple. I didn't have to do a lot of things just to show that i was free or that there was no way I could change.
I heard Laurie shouting at a maid and I sighed. It was my doomsday. I didn't think that I would be able to overcome all of these. This shouldn't be mine. I mean, it's just one of those things yeah? But I am just thinking about how easy it was for her to probably get rid of me..
"Tell me, what are you useful for? You are not willing to tell me what truly transpired between you and the Alpha right? I will make your life a loving hell and you'll regret that you ever knew me in the first place."
I was confused as I tried to fix the puzzle. I glanced at my fellow maid but she was also wearing the same look of confusion. I guess that was already okay. There is no need to think about it. Then a small smile appeared on her face and she mouthed. "Go in and tell her what you did."
I shook my head. Oh that was wishing for a death sentence. I didn't want to have anything to do with Laurie when she wasn't angry, talk more of when she was angry. It wasn't good that I jumped in when it was obvious that I needed a fire brigade to calm her down.
"Go in." She ordered but I didn't reply her. She would have to push me in like an animal before I would even agree to that.
If I entered now, I was surely going to die. As much as I claimed to be nonchalant, it didn't mean that I didn't value my life. I just wasn't feeling like I should make it my priority all the way and give people the leverage they wanted over everyone. I had found a way to make sure that there's no mistakes of any kind after a while. It was just what it was.
"Thanks for telling me that you want me to die but I won't agree to that. It's either we wait or you go in. After all, I'm the one who wronged you right? Why don't you then go along and tell her that?"
She glared at me but I smiled inwardly. She was insane for thinking that I would obey her.
"You're going to be punished whether you like it or not." She replied and I didn't say a word.
"That's a fact not news, so tell me more. Is that all I should expect from you? I would have sworn that I was going to be so punished that I wouldn't be able to move. Thanks for being there for me anyway since you've always been there for me to make sure that I don't fall or have any mishaps." I replied sarcastically.
I didn't know that my voice had reached Laurie's ears until I heard her shout.
"Who is there?"
