Twenty Three

Twenty Three

Author's POV

“Why do you keep on doing this to me? Why do you keep on acting like I’m not enough for you? Haven’t I done enough for you? Why must you still seek someone else?”

“What are you saying? Calm down and slow down with the accusations, I’m not with any other person.”

“And I'm a fool that you think you can deceive as you please? It’s not fair of you to put everything aside and still do things the way you want. You don’t care about how it makes me feel or something.” It was obvious that she was hurt when she spoke. She wanted him to take her seriously but he didn’t.

He kept on staring at her like some sort of fool when truly he knew about everything she was saying.

“Why do you like making things complicated for yourself? You don’t need the stress for anything and it won’t get you anywhere.” He stated coldly. His outburst hurt Laurie as she staggered a little but she came back to order before he noticed.

She just wanted him to talk and admit everything that he had been doing and stop making her look so desperate for attention.

“You’re unbelievable, so far I haven’t heard you clear the doubt that you don’t know what I’m talking about, I can’t believe you at all!” She roared out with her veins popping out of her head but he remained calm.

This was what angered Laurie the most because he was trying to make a fool out of her or something. Here she was saying what was bothering her and he was acting unbothered about everything.

“You don’t need the stress, Laurie, stop bothering yourself about things that shouldn’t matter to you.” He said coldly.

“Does it matter to me? This doesn’t matter to me. What are you even saying? Can you listen to yourself? Why can’t you be content and stick with what you have? Why do you have to seek more? And remain unashamed about it?”

“Laurie I don’t have time for this you’re doing and I don’t even want to have this type of conversation with you. Stop talking about it because I’m sure you don’t want to know what you think you want to know.” He said it like he was sending out a threat to Laurie.

Trying to warn her that she might not be able to take the truth that she’s claiming she wants to hear.

“Why would you say you don’t have time? Why are you treating me with so much disrespect? If you don’t want me anymore then let me go.” She yelled out with all seriousness evident in her tone.

“No one is disrespecting you here and even if there’s anyone disrespecting anyone you’re the one that is disrespectful to me. You came to me accusing me and nagging over something that’s not worth it? Is that necessary?“ he scoffed, walking away from her trying to leave the conversation but Laurie wasn’t done yet.

“You can’t walk out on me and oh don’t be so ungrateful! After everything that I’ve done for you and this is what I get In return? After all, I've sacrificed for you, it doesn’t even matter to you?”

“Laurie, drop this conversation now!”

“Or what? You’re going to tell me everything and I’m going to feel bad? No, I won’t feel bad because nothing matches up to the insult of it already. I’ve been with you through everything and now that you’re fine you’re so comfortable, comfortable enough for you to disrespect me in the face. If you’re so tired of seeing me then sign up for a divorce.” She yelled out standing directly in front of him.

He gently pressed his forehead with his arm, he was tired of Laurie but at the same time wondered what was making her this upset. What did she hear exactly?

“Leave me for goodness sake, Laurie! Nobody is disputing you being there for me or anything so what’s the big deal? Do you want to erase those times? You are just fond of creating unnecessary scenes to get attention.”

“What did you say to me? Now it’s about me seeking attention?”

“That's exactly what you’re doing, coming here nagging for no good reason. Did you just find out about it or do you just want to bring it up today and get the attention? This is necessary and you’re constantly getting on my nerves.”

“I can’t believe I was stupid enough to stand by someone like you. So if I were to be your sister you'd want me to keep quiet when I was being disrespected by my husband? Why are you so vile and unthought?”

“Don’t you ever take that tone with me, if you were my sister! My sister won’t be stupid enough to take such a move when she’s aware that I hate nagging so much, but still, you like pushing things, that’s what you’re known for.”

“Say all you want and try to insult me or you want but I still don’t care and It’s still never going to change the fact that you’re still a cheater that you are.”

He approached her but calmed himself down, although Laurie flinched she didn’t move a single inch. He knew she was serious and she was ready for drama.

But unfortunately for her, he hated drama or anything that had to do with it so he wasn’t even willing to go down that path with her. She knew what she wanted and he wasn’t willing to give her that at all.

“Won’t you speak? I was expecting you to keep up lies and just try to make me look stupid or something, now you’re stranded and you think the next thing to do is to manipulate me to think I’m a bad person for confronting you about cheating on me. You’re going crazy.”

“I don’t even owe you an explanation and I’m not even willing to give you one for any reason. You can think what you want.”

“Honestly Laurie you need to fix this jealousy because you think you’re right and you’re entitled to nag which is such a fucked up mentality by the way.”

“So it’s now me that needs to fix my attitude? I’m not even surprised because you’ve never been the one to take the blame for your actions even if it was pointing directly at your eyes, you’ll still have something to say.”

“What exactly do you want? You want me to be conversing with you and arguing about the information that you got from goodness knows where? Laurie just go to bed and sleep or something, you’ve done enough.” He said standing fiercely in front of her but Laurie still didn’t move.

“You think this is a joke and it’s one of those arguments whereby you’ll wait for me to finish talking and then dismiss me? You’ve never really answered my question about why you’re a cheat. Is that you’re not contended or you’re just trying to disrespect me or shut me down?” Laurie's voice sounded hurt here but she quickly voiced out so he wouldn’t notice.

“You’re just going to end up getting hurt, you’re forcing yourself to go through a pain that you don’t even want to go through. No one here is trying to disrespect you. Stop talking about disrespect like I’m trying to do that so badly. It’s not always about you.”

“Then who are those that it’s supposed to be about? I’m married to you and everything's meant to be about the two of us only, and you’re still making me feel bad when you’re the one hurting me.”

“You’re hurting yourself because no one asked you to start going on a wild hunt chase for no good reason: if you can just calm down and focus on things that matter.”

“Stop saying things that matter like this doesn’t matter. How would you feel if you found out that I was sleeping with other guys? And I was chasing after them? Would you remain with me?” She asked the question looking directly into his eyes.

She didn’t want to miss a single emotion, she wanted to know if there was a single remorse in his eyes or if he felt good with what he was doing.

He stared at her coldly with no single remorse evident in his countenance which disappointed Laurie because she was just wasting her time and he didn’t care.

“Then I’ll call you a hoe, what do you think you are referring to, you’re getting on my last nerves Laurie and don’t say I didn’t warn you because you’re getting me pissed.”

“You’re not even feeling half of what I’m feeling right now and you’re the one nagging about last nerves here. I’m going to say it again. I won’t let you keep on disrespecting me over and over again. You won’t make me feel worthless, I won’t let you!”

“Great, Are we done now?”

“Really? Are you for real or you’re just trying to make me feel this bad on purpose? Did I do anything to you or something?”

“It seems you’re less busy and you have a lot of spare time on your hands and that’s why you have so much time to talk. Here's advice: Get a job to do and stop disturbing my life for no good reason. I don’t even want to say things you’re not going to like. I’m calmly trying to tell you that this conversation would lead to something else but you’re pushy and it seems you’re heading somewhere.”

“I promise you Jack that I’m going to get the person that’s coming between us, the person that’s giving you this nerve to talk to me in such a manner that you don’t care anymore. I won’t let this go and I’ll make her pay for every single thing that I can’t bring myself to do with you.” She said getting her teeth with a very serious countenance on her face.

He knew she wasn’t bluffing but he didn’t want her to know that he feared what she said.

“It’s going to seem like a joke or that I don’t know what I’m saying, or like I'm going crazy but I’m not. You’re going to get the news soon and when you do I hope you don’t come back to me for anything, then I won’t accept you and I’ll make you feel worthless just as you’ve planned to make me feel too. I’ll make you feel like you have no single worth! I’ll talk bad about you to your face and I’ll do anything to make you feel what I’m feeling now and till then I won’t stop, read my fucking lips, this is a threat.”

“You’re so paranoid, well if you don’t have anything to do I have a job to do and you’re in my way. You’ve wasted my time already and I won’t stand here and let you waste more of my time. You can’t just be wasting my time with your meaningless talks that I do not talk about.”

“We’ll find out if it’s truly meaningless or not, it’s just a matter of time, and I won’t say much.”

“Good because I don't want you to say anything more, so now if you don't mind I’d like you to excuse me and leave me alone, I have things to do,” I said coldly.

Laurie didn’t say anything to argue with me and instead, she quietly left.

When she was gone I could finally ponder about everything that she had said enough for me to know that there was a huge fire on the mountain.

I remembered asking a maid to call me Olivia but that was a very dangerous thing to do in this situation.

“Have you sent my message to her?”

“Yes.”

“Good, now tell her that I said she should never set foot here again. If I want to talk to her I’ll be the one to come for her, understand?”

“Yes master, I’ll tell her this immediately.”
