Chapter ten
Chapter ten
Abigail's POV
If there was anything that terrified me after Daniel, was that lady. I didn't even know her name but from my first encounter, I knew that she had sinister plans that if I wasn't careful enough, she'd tear my heart out and I would be left with nothing.
"Mind you, although you've already met her before, it doesn't take away the novelty of the fact that you should be on your very best when you see her. It would be for your good more than it would be for mine." The Beta reminded me.
I stomached my preference because I would have preferred if someone else came in here to have that conversation with me. She didn't need to see me the same way, I didn't need to also meet her. It was just mutual stuff, we didn't need to see each other. At this point, I was already suffering but I hadn't come into it fully.
"Are you dragging your feet? Go change into that attire." He ordered and I hastily went to change into the ugliest dress that I had seen. Was this what they meant by meeting her well dressed? This was a sham and I was sure that he was very well aware of that but was just pulling me along. I didn't know what it had done to deserve this amount of hate piled upon me.
One would think that being a breeder was so great not knowing that it could be damaging, I would take being in my father's house and facing humiliation by my sister than in this strange land where I didn't have a say it was almost as though they were waiting for me to slip up.
Why was the Luna angry with me? This was supposed to be a contract thing. This was equal to surrogacy. I didn't need money, just a place to stay as an exchange. I guess all of them were just evil from the Alpha to the least person in this pack.
I waited for him to excuse me. I wouldn't be changing in front of a total stranger
"Oh, but you stripped in front of the Alpha." A voice spoke in my head and I blinked. What the hell was that?
"What are you waiting for? Oh, you think that I might be interested in you? That's impossible. We don't hide around here. I get that you're not a wolf though."
I was baffled by the three sixty degree switches in this man's character. Just yesterday he was being nice but today he was acting like something was wrong with him. I was very skeptical about people who didn't have stability. They could do a lot of things without one noticing.
"I don't know why you're staring at me so passionately. You're the Alpha's possession, no one must dare blink in your direction. If they do, they die."
Hearing myself being regarded as an object to be owned did a number on me. There was a limit to the insults that I could take and being with such people who tried to demean me wasn't working out for me
The problem was getting out of this place. How did I abscond if I proved stubborn. At my very humble position, they still managed to be angry with me. Imagine me throwing into the mix some healthy confidence. I'm sure that they'd go mad.
"Tell me what are the things that you cherish the most." He began in a conversational tone.
I changed my clothes the way I did in the wild with my father's warriors. "Nothing."
The moment I told him what was more important to me in this life, I was automatically setting myself up for failure, a huge one that would break me when he finally told his goons how they could catch me.
"There is nothing of interest to you, that's rather surprising. I had high hopes for you."
Was it only me or was this man trying to get to know me? It was as they said. Make small talk with an ordinary breeder, that would never be more in their eyes. It was quite strange to even think of that.
"I don't have anything to my name and my life so I don't think that it's wise to have something of interest. I am but a breeder." I gave myself the label that they were so quick to dish out.
He stared at me angrily but I didn't mind him because that was just the little that I could say. They weren't ready for me and I likewise wasn't ready to do anything that would attract attention to myself.
"I hope you don't plan on speaking this way to the Luna because you are well informed that you would be destroyed even before you get the chance to ..."
"Beta Jake the Alpha requests your presence." A mad cut in and I was really thankful for her because what would I have said if that man remained here, I was sure that he was ready to take me out of the way.
"Let's go together." He ordered and I followed suit wondering what I could do to get myself out of this mess. This nonsense had to stop, there was no other way to put it. If he didn't want me around, he should just let me know that instantly.
We approached the sacred villa where the witch was supposed to be staying. It was as fancy as I expected it to be. It wasn't too hard to see that her beloved husband loved her so much.
Which led me to begin another investigation. Why was he unable to birth an heir? Was he barren or she was just the one who was unable to give him a child. I didn't know that I was staring until I stubbed my foot against the ground and finally saw a glare that could freeze the nations. Sadly, they didn't know who they were contending against and that was my only problem with them.
The only thing that could stop me from taking certain decisions was because I wanted to. When there was a will there was a way. I'd rather stay and plan a worthwhile escape than run away and get caught.
His eyes rested on me as I stared at the flight of spiral stairs. The Luna descended and I watched her every move. While she might have a pretty face and saunter in like a gazelle, there was this fierceness underneath that I recognized, being one who possessed the same traits.
"Leave us." She replied and Jake walked away immediately. I knew that there was a problem already.
"So, I hear that you got into an altercation with one of the maids today because you suddenly think that you're better than everyone. I hate to believe that it's true. Is that true?" She inquired.
If she knew that she was going to condemn me, why the hell was she asking me questions? "No, ma'am."
"Luna to you."
"No, Luna." I replied with a small smirk on my face. She was seeking respect. I sighed heavily, if not for how things had turned, why would someone like this speak to me in this manner? It was appalling and annoying at the same time.
Truly class couldn't be bought because what sort of mannerless act was this? I didn't know that I had spoken until I heard a slight cough which made me look up.
"Did you say something?"
I shook my head instantly, I dared not voice out what I was thinking because that was an automatic invitation to a problem. "What do you say about the issues that present themselves?"
I shrugged. "I don't know why they would suggest that I had a fight with anyone, but I guess it is just part of those things that one must pass through, it's a lesson to everyone I guess." I finished nonchalantly.
Her eyes narrowed at me in anger and I saw her nostrils flaring. " Do you think so much of yourself that you don't feel any remorse for your actions?" She queried me and I didn't say a word instead I just looked at her and shook my head at her antics. She was seeking a way to be able to get to me but I wouldn't give her that chance at all.
She stared at me for a minute and I didn't flinch, "you're quite bold. I would enjoy breaking you and trust me when I say that's not a pretty sight at all. Do you think that you can bear the heat when it finally comes?" She replied and I sighed. I guess there was no winning with her. She was out for blood, mine especially.
She raised her head haughtily, "You will resume in my house from morning till evening before you return to your quarters, I won't be taking any chances with you." She stated.
