Confronting the Witch Queen
Confronting the Witch Queen
BASIL’S POV
“I’m here to see the Witch Queen. I need to have a word with her.”
I looked all around with my eyes while I remained in one spot. I needed to be extra careful, or I might not return to the mansion alive like I wanted.
The mini witch by the door of the hut kept her gaze on me as though I was an alien that had just returned from Mars. I was still waiting to get a response from her.
She didn’t deserve to be called a witch but a mini witch. She would actually pass for a dwarf. If I were her, I would make use of magic to grow taller and not cast spells on pack soldiers.
“Did you hear what I said earlier?” I questioned. I didn’t roar at her.
I knew it was risky to come here all alone without the guards, pack soldiers, and even my twin. I just had to do what was necessary, and it was my presence here.
The mini witch was the weapon fashioned against me. It had become glaring at this point. She still didn’t deem it fit to respond to my question. All she did was stare.
“Can you even hear me at all?”
Bernard would be so mad at me if he realized that I came here alone after I said no to coming with him. I had my reasons for coming alone, and I didn’t plan to tell him about it.
He meant well for the pack and its citizens when he asked that we come here to have a word with the Witch Queen. She had been doing too much casting spells on pack soldiers.
We were almost out of pack soldiers, and we weren’t getting recruits like before. No one was willing to allow their sons and daughters to face the so-called rising coven of witches.
“It is me, the Alpha of the pack,” I told the mini witch. Perhaps she didn’t recognize me.
Before Bernard asked that we come here to face the Witch Queen and her crew members, I never thought about coming here to see her. He made me see the reason to come.
I didn’t come here to face them like he suggested. I only came here to have a word with the Witch Queen. I wouldn’t hurt any of them, and hopefully, none of them would hurt me.
“I’m not here to cause a...”
I had to swallow the rest of my words abruptly. She walked inside before I could finish speaking. If she wasn’t a mini witch, she would be regretting her actions by now.
I refused to come here with my brother because I didn’t think attacking them was the right thing to do. I would rather have a conversation with them.
“I know you must be wondering why I didn’t suggest that we come here together to have a conversation with them,” I spoke to my wolf inwardly.
“I know why,” he replied. I knew that he knew already.
The Witch Queen might have something sacred to say, just like she said to Serena. It was the reason Serena refused to tell anyone about it no matter how many times we asked.
I also wanted to know what it was she had to say to Serena that day. It could be a secret, something that shouldn’t be known by a lot of werewolves.
“What did she say? Did she say I can come in?” I inquired. The mini witch had returned.
Serena knew about it already, and so should I. Alpha Bernard could remain in the dark about it. It might seem as though I was trying to get on the good side of the witches.
I just didn’t believe in going to war with them. It made no sense to me. The other day on the battlefield, I wasn’t present, and I didn’t think Alpha Bernard noticed.
The spells weren’t the reason I was absent. I was aware that my twin and I had what it takes to resist spells, but because my belief differed from my twin’s, I did my thing.
Dean was affected as a result of what went down on the battlefield that day, and I felt for him. The man had been going from one problem to another.
Serena had been devastated ever since then, and it didn’t bother me. If I were switching roles with Alpha Bernard, then I would have been bothered.
“Why haven’t you been giving answers to any of my questions? Do you not have the ability to speak?” I spoke softly. Actually, I wanted to roar.
I didn’t want the Witch Queen thinking that I was here for violence. It was the reason I couldn’t roar. Her big, ugly, and weird eyeballs were on me, and I kept mine on her in return.
Her hands were folded, and she had an inscription on her forehead. It wasn’t there when I got here. She must have gotten it when she went inside.
“Wait, did you get that to get rid of me? Is it some kind of potent spell?” I took a step backward before asking her.
“Go in,” she eventually spoke.
My eyes widened after she did. She did speak for real, and it couldn’t be that my brain, mind, and ears all came together to play a silly prank on me.
She now had a more serious look on. I didn’t know if it was to scare me or if she was just doing her thing. If a mini witch was this scary, how about the Witch Queen?
The Witch Queen and I hadn’t had a conversation before, and we also hadn’t met before. I expected Serena to tell us what it was like to have a conversation with her, but she didn’t.
“If I were you, I would go inside right now before she changes her mind,” my wolf growled.
“Don’t you think it is dangerous for me to go in there?” I asked.
“You should have thought about that when you left the mansion alone to come see the Witch Queen,” he responded.
“I couldn’t come with the guards because this is supposed to be a secret. No one can know about it.”
“I thought you didn’t come here with them because you were scared spells would be cast on them. I was wrong,” he howled.
“Yes, you’re wrong, and you won’t make me feel like I don’t care about them,” I muttered.
Actually, there was one more reason why I came here without my twin, and it was the most important reason. My wolf might just know about it already.
“Did you say I can go in?”
She was back to acting as though I didn’t just speak to her. I didn’t know what she thought she was, the moon goddess or even the Witch Queen herself.
I began to move. Waiting for the mini witch to give me a response would be nothing but a sheer waste of time. I clenched my fists tightly and might just be ready for anything.
“Where is she?” I couldn’t help but ask. It might be necessary for me to know where I was going.
“Am I supposed to just go into the hut and barge into a room that I’m not supposed to...” She looked at me, and I instantly stopped speaking. I was actually raising my voice at her.
I wasn’t a coward, and everyone knew that. There was something about her aura, and it had to be because she was a witch. She scared the hell out of me.
I took a deep breath and walked into the hut. If I lost my life in the middle of this, history had better not forget me, or I would roll in my grave forever.
“I forgot, if a witch kills you, you don’t get to be buried. They use parts of your body to make new spells, more like a laboratory rat.”
I expected it to be weird in here, but it wasn’t. It was just like the hut of an old woman. My grandmother used to have a hut, so I knew what it looked like to be in one.
The narrow passage led me to the living room. It was barely one second after arriving there, and I could see the Witch Queen already. I knew it was her because she sat on an ugly throne.
“I’m here to...”
“You should acknowledge her presence by greeting her,” Rick interrupted me. He got me scared.
“I know why you’re here. Save yourself the stress of giving me an explanation,” the Witch Queen said before I could do what Rick said.
There was absolutely nothing special about her. She was just like every other werewolf in the pack. I expected her to look weird and maybe even have horns.
“I have an assignment for you, and if you can carry it out, I’ll do what you want. I’m talking about the main reason you’re here,” she said.
