The witches wants to rule
The witches wants to rule
SERENA’S POV
The sound of swords clashing filled the air. Screams echoed through the woods and the training ground. They were only a stone’s throw away from each other.
“This is bloody,” I muttered to Aria.
The scent of blood was everywhere, even in the breath I took. It hurt to see the bodies of some pack members lying lifeless on the ground.
I held tightly to my sword. The witches had crossed the boundary like they promised to, so I was not surprised. I was only surprised they struck this soon.
Dean believed I ought to be in the mansion resting, but I disagreed with him, and that was why I was here with him.
Before I got bedridden because of the mate bond, I told Alpha Basil and Alpha Bernard to prepare for war, but I was not certain they took my words seriously.
We were advised to stay away from each other’s faces for a certain period, so I had not been seeing them, or I might have reminded them.
“Dear moon goddess, please keep Dean safe.”
The reason the Witch Queen decided to do this was because I refused to get rid of one of the Alphas like she wanted. I needed her to understand that I would not do it.
Alpha Bernard and Alpha Basil were not werewolves I cared so much about, but killing them because she wanted me to did not make sense.
The rising coven of witches was responsible for my parents’ death, and I should allow their leader to give me orders? That was another reason I refused to do what she wanted.
“She will die by the sword regardless of her powers. It would be sweet revenge for my parents,” I told my wolf.
The smell of blood that filled my nostrils made her growl. Dean had already gotten to work, and it was almost time for me to do the same.
They came with forbidden spells, the kind the moon goddess had forbidden centuries ago. Those spells were never meant to be cast upon werewolves.
It was obvious that the rising coven of witches did not care. Their rage outweighed their fear of consequences. There would surely be a repercussion for using those spells.
I remained standing at the edge of the battlefield. The moonlight was out already, making it possible for the witches and the pack soldiers to see each other clearly.
“What is going on?” I asked my wolf.
The only reason I stayed in one place was because I wanted to study how the witches attacked so I would not have a problem when I started fighting.
I wanted to know their tactics and their weaknesses, but I observed that wolves who once fought beside me had turned against their own pack.
Their eyes glowed with a strange violet hue, and they snarled and lunged at one another. It had almost become impossible to tell friend from foe.
“Can someone just tell me what is going on?”
I could no longer comprehend what was happening. My wolf also had no answers to the questions in my head. The witches were already gaining the upper hand.
“They are possessed,” Alpha Bernard’s voice came from behind me.
I turned to look at him. His chest rose and fell, showing how exhausted he was. His claws were out and dripping with blood.
“The spells they are using were forbidden for a reason. These are the kind of spells that can destroy souls and twist minds. No one is safe,” he explained.
He had no idea that I knew about the spells the witches were using. I knew many things about the pack before he and his twin made me leave ten years ago.
“The spell is capable of binding a witch’s soul to a living host,” he added.
I had heard about the spells before, but this was my first time seeing them being used. That was why I had been confused for a moment.
The moon goddess ought to have destroyed those spells instead of forbidding them. Now that I had seen how they worked, I did not think we stood a chance.
A low growl escaped my throat. My wolf stirred inside me, restless and burning. She was aware of what was happening, of what we were facing. I could feel her heartbeat merge with mine.
“They are turning our wolves into their soldiers. We have to stop them before we lose everyone,” Alpha Bernard cried out.
I could not speak. I knew fighting the rising coven of witches would not be easy, but I had no idea it would be this impossible.
Before I could say a word to Alpha Bernard, a possessed wolf appeared from behind him, but he was faster. He twisted the wolf’s neck and it fell to the ground.
“Look!” I screamed at the top of my voice. I did not mean to draw the attention of the witches to us.
Alpha Bernard was on the lookout for another possessed wolf when I screamed. My hands trembled, but I managed to point at the corpse of the wolf he had just killed.
I saw the witch’s mark burning into its fur. It was my first time seeing such a thing. My hands would not stop trembling. Alpha Bernard did not seem surprised to see it happen.
“This is...” I stuttered. I could not even finish my sentence.
My eyes were no longer on the corpse. I needed to get a hold of myself, and staring at him would not help. I looked elsewhere and caught sight of the Witch Queen.
She stood beyond the hill, her dark robes fluttering with an unnatural wind. Her eyes glowed. She was a sight to behold, and it felt as though my eyes were glued to her.
I could still remember her. She was the same witch who spoke to me when I visited her, the one who told me that balance must be broken for peace to be restored.
The witches began to chant in unison. They spoke ancient words, and the sound filled the air. They were doing something to the pack soldiers, but I did not know what it was.
“We have to do something!” I told Alpha Bernard, who was busy fighting a possessed wolf.
Two more came for him, and I watched him get rid of them without hesitation. It could not be that he had forgotten they were citizens of the pack.
Every word the witches chanted made matters worse. It felt as though they were placing a curse on everyone present on the battlefield.
“Stop killing them! They are pack soldiers!” I shouted at Alpha Bernard. He was just about to strike another one.
“They are possessed and are as good as dead!” he responded and refused to let the wolf go.
Since I arrived at the training ground, I had not fought anyone, and I did not think I would be able to. My hands would not stop trembling.
“You have to leave now! The spell might do something to you!” Alpha Bernard screamed after the blood of a pack soldier splashed on my face. He had just slit the soldier’s throat.
As Alphas of the pack, there was a chance that they were immune to the spells. Before they were both crowned, they carried out many rituals.
One by one, more wolves fell under the witches’ control. I could hear their cries, feel their agony through the pack bond, and it tore at my heart.
The bond that was supposed to connect us had become a web of pain. The mate bond did not burn me up this much. The pack bond was doing worse, but I was still standing.
The sky dimmed even though the moonlight was still out. I felt my wolf Aria grow more restless than before. She paced inside me.
“Go, Serena!” Alpha Bernard screamed again.
“What about the pack soldiers? I cannot leave them all alone!”
We had to speak loudly or we would not hear each other clearly. It was all because of the witches’ chanting that refused to stop.
“There is nothing you can do to help them. Your presence at the moment does not count!” he reminded me.
“I will try to reach out to the remaining pack soldiers using the Alpha voice. Head to the mansion right now!”
He had come up with a way to save the rest of the possessed wolves who were still breathing. I took to my heels and started running toward the mansion.
“Dean!” I paused and screamed after a minute.
I turned back. I would get on the battlefield to find my brother.
