Prepare for war is coming

Prepare for war is coming

BASIL’S POV

“Can I talk to you?” I stopped Dean and asked.

I did not need to be told that he was in a hurry, but as Alpha I demanded to speak to him, so he had no choice but to wait and hear me out.

The only thing I wanted at the moment was to find out what the Witch Queen had told Serena. She had refused to tell my twin and me about it, but she might have told her brother.

“I have to do...” he began.

“Tell me what you know about the Witch Queen, I mean what she had to say to your sister,” I interrupted.

I was not going to stand in one spot and allow him to say no to me in my mansion and in my pack. He remained on the bottom stair while I stayed on the third.

The way he looked at me said so many things, but I ignored them. He spoke to me nonverbally, using his eyes if I were to be precise.

“I just asked you a question,” I reminded him. I was not interested in standing here and staring at his face all night long.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he answered after a long pause.

“You do. Your sister must have told you,” I insisted.

Silence fell and it was not awkward. His fists were tightly clenched and I was reassured that none of them would land on me. No one hit an Alpha.

I did not know why, and I was not interested in knowing why he did not like to breathe the same air as me. It had been like that for the longest time.

My wolf said it had to do with Willow, but I did not agree with him. It had to be something deeper. I was not here for that today, I only wanted answers from him.

“What makes me think he will answer my question just by asking him?” I asked my wolf. It dawned on me that I might be wasting my time.

“I need to go now, I have things to do,” he said.

“I also need to go. I do not enjoy staring at your face, but unless you tell me what I want to hear, I am afraid we will remain here all day and maybe even night,” I decided, pushing for an answer a little more.

“Serena is in the best position to answer this question of yours. She met with the Witch Queen. I did not meet with her,” he said to my face, but I did not take offense. He was lucky.

It was the first time he had directed me to his sister. He did not like it whenever my twin or I had to meet with her. He would always find a way to stop it.

“The last time I checked, your sister has not been feeling too well and we were asked to stay away from her so she could get better on time.”

I stood on the second stair when I placed my mouth close to his ear and said those words to him. I did that for no good reason, not that I did not want ears to catch our words.

“I am glad you have not forgotten that she is sick. I need to go stay with her,” he mentioned.

“Is her condition so bad that she cannot be by herself for a few minutes?”

“I will go now,” he said, taking a deep breath before announcing it.

“You cannot,” I spoke in a deep husky tone.

The fact that he had been of great help to the pack and its citizens did not give him the right to disrespect me. Even though I had made his mate my sex toy, he could not disrespect me for it.

If he could, he would have made me regret speaking those last two words to him. I kept my hand behind my back and watched him. It had become glaring that he was not willing to answer me.

“How is she?” I asked, taking my eyes off him.

“Fine,” he responded. His answer was too sharp for me, but I accepted it.

“I will let you go, but if I find out that you know...” I swallowed the rest of my words. I was not done speaking when he walked out on me. It was my fault. I ought to have stayed in the middle instead of shifting to the left side.

I could have made him regret what he had just done, but I was willing to let him go because of his sister. She might need him by her side at this trying time.

The mate bond had decided to hit while she was in the woods having a conversation with Bernard. It had burned her up and she still had not fully recovered from it.

Bernard and I had been asked to stay away from her for some time or a repeat of what had happened might occur again. The moon goddess had done something strange with the mate bond.

Not seeing her for a few days was not difficult for me. I did not know about Bernard. He had grown so fond of her, he was more like a simp.

“Alpha Bernard!” I screamed. I needed to have a word with him.

My only fear at the moment was the mate bond hitting me just like it had hit Serena. I was told she had collapsed and was burning up. She had frozen at the same time.

The mate bond could always hit Bernard. He would not mind. The worst part was that as long as she remained close to us, it might hit anyone.

It could be me, Serena, or Bernard. I found myself in the living room and Bernard had yet to show up. I would have assumed he was with Serena if we had not been asked to stay away from her.

“How am I supposed to pester her into talking when I cannot even see her?” I asked my wolf.

It had been days since the tragedy befell her and days since I last set my beautiful eyeballs on her. Curiosity was killing me already.

“Get me Alpha Bernard. Let him know that I have something important to tell him,” I instructed the guard standing to the right of the throne.

We might need to improvise since Serena was not willing to tell us what the Witch Queen wanted from us. Only the moon goddess knew why she insisted on seeing only Serena.

“We have to prepare for war. Call on all the seers you know. If you know other witches also, call on them.”

That was what Serena had told us after she came out of the Witch Queen’s hut that day. I knew their meeting did not go well, but I still needed to know why.

“Your highness, I was told he stepped out of the mansion a while ago,” the guard came running.

He had wanted to leave the mansion and he had not thought to tell me. That was unusual for him, but I was not bothered since he had been acting strangely these days.

“You are the guard in charge of handing me letters, am I right?” I asked the guard just before he returned to where he came from.

“Yes, your highness,” he replied with his head bowed.

Staring at his face while he spoke to me earlier made me recall that it was him. I looked all around just to be certain Dean and even Serena were not anywhere near us.

“Why have you not been giving me letters? Did I ask you to stop?”

“My lord, the young man in question stopped bringing her letters a long time ago,” he replied.

My eyes were fixed on his body. I was trying to find out if he was speaking the truth. I could not tell by just looking at his face. He dared not lie to me though.

“Go.”

Serena’s faraway lover could not have stopped writing to her just like that. Did he get tired of sending her love letters telling her how much he missed her?

“What the F,” I exclaimed.

“He has been sending her letters all this while,” I told Roman. I knew what I was saying.

Weeks ago, Bernard and I had walked into the penthouse to have a conversation with her. I had seen a brown envelope close to where she sat. I had just recalled.

Shaun sent her letters in a brown envelope. That made me certain the letter was from him. No one else could have sent her a letter. She had no friends or relatives.

“How did the letter get to her?” I asked my wolf.

“That is not important at the moment. If I were you, I would be thinking of a solution,” he responded.

“I have a solution already and it is to write to her pretending to be Shaun,” I told him.

“The content of the letter has to break her heart and make her cry,” he howled, and I agreed with him.
