In the wood where evidence lies

In the wood where evidence lies
SERENA’S POV

I looked at myself in the mirror after I woke up this morning and I realized I had become a shadow of myself, I looked very much unkempt yet I did nothing about it.

The moon goddess has to go easy on me or I don’t know what else would become of me, I stood a chance of losing the people that I care about, Shaun and Dean!

“You’ve lost Shaun already but you can…”

“I never asked for your opinion Aria” I interrupted her, how could she even say a thing like that?

There were no longer tears in my eyes and now I could resume conversing with Alpha Basil who no longer had his gaze fixated on me.

I went from being angry to being sober and I wasn’t surprised, and anytime from now, I might start boiling with fury again.

“Do I have to teach your men their job?” I asked Alpha Basil because I wouldn’t mind teaching his men their job at this point.

“I don’t think I get that” he cooed,

“Why haven’t they gotten evidence yet? Why is it taking them so long?” Curiosity made me ask.

It seemed he had no response for me or he was thinking of what to say, he adjusted himself on the sofa and now he was sitting like the Alpha that he is.

His arms were folded while his legs were crossed, his lips had begun to move which meant he was ready to provide answers to my question.

“Willow has been tortured mercilessly but she keeps on insisting that Dean is a party to this,” he said,

Alpha Basil and his men must be delusional to think that Willow would confess that all she said in front of the pack citizens about Dean were lies from the pit of hell.

I never considered torturing Willow a way of finding out the truth, it was as though I knew Willow better than Alpha Basil does.

Alpha Bernard probably has no idea that Willow was tortured or he would have begun to throw tantrums, that’s how much he likes and cares about Willow.

“Treason is a big crime here in our pack, I need you to remember that” Alpha Basil went on,

“Yes, treason is a big crime for the person who committed it!” My response to him, he still doesn’t believe that Dean didn’t do it.

“Dean is innocent” I added and won’t mind telling that to him all the time.

He heaved a deep sigh while I gulped, we were doing this the calm way and I hope it works out because I lack the energy to do this the hard way.

I was mentally and emotionally exhausted and the major reason was Shaun’s letter to me, I still want to believe it’s a prank but a part of me knows that Shaun won’t joke with a thing like that.

“It might be a little hard to prove his innocence, the rouges that can bear him witness that he doesn’t work for them are all dead” He spoke after being mute for the longest.

“Does this mean you believe that he’s innocent?” I inquired, his first statement prompted the question.

“If we declare him innocent because we couldn’t find enough evidence, the pack citizens will question us and as you know, our government here is for the people and by the people” he went on, he stylishly ignored my question and I caught him.

Saying that I know where to turn to at this point would be nothing but a big fat white lie and if Dean wasn’t my brother, I might have given up a long time ago.

The execution was around the corner and the thought of losing my brother made me teary, Aria believes I was teary because I just recalled the content of Luthor’s letter to me again.

I couldn’t help it this time, tears rolled down my cheeks while I had my head bowed, I didn’t want sympathy from Alpha Basil or it might make me tear up more.

If I was done having a conversation with Alpha Basil, I would be on my way to the room they call mine already but I still have some words to say to him.

“If that’s why you’re making the floor wet, I’ll see into it personally” he spoke in a deep husky tone, his statement made me realize that I had wet the floor.

“We don’t have time” I reminded him, how nice of him to have been moved by my tears.

He ought to have looked into things personally a long time ago but for reasons known to him, he didn’t and decided to leave things to his men.

I raised my head and didn’t bother to wipe my tears, my tears were doing something on him and it was why I wasn’t willing to wipe them.

“I thought you once said crying in his presence will depict weakness” Aria’s words, I have no response to her at the moment.

I was waiting not so patiently for him to speak so I could know the way out, he seemed lost in thought and might not be speaking anytime soon.

Unlike Alpha Bernard, I can be sure about the fact that Alpha Basil has given me his words, perhaps the bond between us was the reason my tears did something to him.

“Don’t get this wrong, I didn’t look into things because it’s not my work too as Alpha of the pack and if I look into it, the pack citizens might think that I want to be partial” he remarked after a while, was he trying to tell me that he won’t be looking into things any longer?

“The department responsible for it isn’t doing anything, I need you to know that” I ranted, they weren’t doing their job and it was so obvious.

Tears were no longer rolling down my cheeks but I knew I had to find a way to make tears flow again, I thought about the content of Shaun’s letter again and now I was wailing.

“This is not the time for this!” He spoke in a tone that wasn’t low or my ears wouldn’t have caught his words because I was still wailing.

“We’ll do something” He added, that didn’t sound like a solution to me.

“Fine! Dean will be out of prison!” He said what I wanted to hear and now I can stop wailing.

I had no idea that I could be this dramatic but for my brother, I would do anything and everything to get him out of that forsaken place.

Alpha Basil looked everywhere with his eyes and I was guessing he wanted to be sure no one was eavesdropping on us, I sniffed and joined him in looking all around.

“Here’s what we need to go” he mentioned in a low tone and my ears barely caught those words of his.

Without hesitating, I stood up and found myself sitting next to him, this way he gets to speak in an extremely low tone and I don’t get to struggle to hear him.

“The rogues, we couldn’t have killed all of them” he cooed,

“I think we did, we wiped out everyone in their abode on that particular day” I lectured him, he seemed to have forgotten.

“I stay here in this pack and never have I left for another pack, believe me when I say that we didn’t kill all of them” he insisted but was the first fourteen words of his necessary?

I didn’t leave the pack because I wanted to but I did because I needed to, my mental health and a lot more were at stake and I don’t have plans to make him understand that.

“If we can find one out of the surviving rogues Dean will be out of that place and will no longer stand the chance to be executed.

I still didn’t want to believe that there were still some rogues alive but since it came from him, I might want to believe and just like he said, he stays in the pack and knows better than me.

“How do I find the rogues in question?” After taking time to ponder on his suggestion, I asked.

“The woods, somewhere in the woods” he muttered.

Going in search of them in the words wasn’t a problem for me but not finding any of them would be the problem for me.

“Thank you,” I said after rising to my feet,

“Where are you off to?” He inquired, wasn’t it glaring already?

“To the woods of course,” I replied.

“Alone?” He queried,

“I can’t go with the pack guards or they will find out about this” I cooed, I wanted this a secret until I found a rogue.

“I don’t trust that you’ll be fine all by yourself in the woods” he stood up and muttered.

He stretched forth his palms and now I understand what he meant by he would look into this.
