Dinner

Dinner

Evie Pov
I am speechless as I walk into the dining hall in Moonstone, every little detail makes the room even more breath taking. Everything ties in together the red curtains that are the same shade of red as the table runner and napkins on the beautiful hand carved table, that has to seat at least twenty people from my first glance if not more. Each table setting intricate first a silver charger, silver plate, then the napkin folded into a beautiful design on top. The King's seat is clearly at the head of the table and Carter and Lizzie are sat two seats down from that on the right side. Damon quickly heads over to them pulling out my chair for me, sitting in the seat next to me closet to the King. The doors open and I feel myself tense...but it was just Liam and Hazel entering and they joined us on the other side of Carter and Lizzie. "How are you rooms?" I ask Hazel trying to have a normal conversation to force calm into my nerves. I have to keep reminding myself that this is my new normal. That this is where I will eat dinner everyday. That I will constantly have to be on my best behavior for a King who I think wishes I wasn't here, wishes that Damon was mated to someone older and wiser ready to take over this kingdom and continue to lead it to greatness. My head quickly clears these thought's away when Hazel responds. "They are very nice I think our room is the size of the house we got pack at the pack when you include the sitting room, bedroom, and bathroom. I wasn't expecting something so extravagant. I like knowing the future Queen." She says to me with a wink. Then looks to Lizzie "It probably doesn't hurt to know the future Beta female either." Shooting her a lazy smile that Lizzie returns excitement plastered to her face. "I can't wait to see mom and dad and tell them when they arrive. I hope they will be proud of me. I know they will love you Carter. Also to see Matt and hear everything about his training, maybe he has met his mate too it seems like within these last few months we all have. Why not him too?" Lizzie says watching the door hopefully for their arrival. It seems a place was set incase they do arrive but I would be shocked if they made it in time for dinner considering they texted me that their flight had been delayed by a few hours. The doors open once again and this time every guard and servant stiffen, we all quickly rise to greet the King and give him the bow of respect that is custom. He moves to his seat with grace and swiftness that I wouldn't think you could possibly combine and yet he does flawlessly. A servant pulls his chair back and he rests in his seat nodding that we could also all sit. "How is everyone settling in this evening?" The King asks rather politely compared to his tone in throne room when we first arrived. I decide to answer "We settled in quite well your Majesty." I say grabbing Damon's hand on top of the table and giving it a squeeze before finishing "Thank you for your hospitality with me and my family we could not be more grateful." I say with a bow and motion to everyone down the table from me. "Of course that is the job of a King, you guys will soon learn it. Did Damon tell you of my deal to postpone your coronation for another year so you may learn everything and be ready to rule the kingdom? He reminded me that you just turned 18 and aren't ready for such responsibilities at the young age and with so little training." The King finishes. I am not ready but that's because I have different wants for my life rather than just being a Queen, I want to learn about the world. However what the King just implied was that my family didn't get me ready for this and that is a lie. They have been training me since I was ten on how to be a proper Luna. I have to bite my tongue from correcting him because I think that is the statement from me he is looking for, maybe their is a polite way to do. I feel the anger radiating off of Damon and decide it's now or he is going to say something that might make the situation worse. " Thank you for understanding your Majesty. While my parent's did effortlessly train me to run a pack, I can't imagine that it will equate to your role or the reasonability you have among ruling an entire kingdom. I feel I could use more training on how to be as versatile as you clearly have been." I say with a small nod. Fighting my victorious smile that I uplifted my parents and gave him a compliment as well as a challenge, he can't claim my training is enough with the wording that I provided without significantly undermining himself and the role he plays in the kingdom. When I finally steel my spine and look to the King again I see that exact knowledge dancing in his eyes and watch as a small smile spreads across his face. "You seem to be quite the clever girl, I see why my son is so enchanted by you. I think you will be able to pick up your new training rather quickly. I look forward to watching you grow in your knowledge of my court." The King says sending a small almost unnoticeable nod my direction. The servants approach the table placing wine and our first course down in front of all of us, and I know I need to keep myself together but alI I want is to devour this food. It smells amazing and I haven't eaten all day to nervous about finally meeting the King. I wait impatiently for the King to have his bite signaling that we may all eats as well. He slowly brings his fork to his mouth and it takes everything in me not to use my bare hands to eat as I remember my table manors and reach for my own utensils. The door opens again and two more people join sitting on the opposite side of Damon and I. "Hello father, mother." Carters respectfully nods to his parents Lizzie doing the same. "I'm so sorry we are late. I got caught in a meeting with the guards before I was reminded so pleasantly that I was late for dinner with our newly arrived company." Carters father says patting his mothers hand while amusement lights up his whole face and a blush spreads across hers. Just as the King was about to respond the door opens again and this time it reveals my parents and older brother Matt and decorum be damned as I threw my chair back and ran into the arms of my parents, my mother already crying before I even reached them.
