Worst Mistake

The joy and elation I am currently experiencing died down like a flicker of a candle when I saw my mate turned back into her human form and fell to the ground.
“Alana!”
I transformed back into my human form and ran towards her and quickly scooped her up in my arms.
My hands grew cold seeing the blood coming out of her eyes.
“Alana, what’s happening?! Alana!”
I gasped in misery when everything came crashing back into me. This is definitely the worst decision I have ever made in my whole life. I should not have urged her to transform drastically! Look what happened to her because of me!
“Oh goodness! What did I do? What did I fucking do?!”
I grabbed my robe on the ground and covered her nakedness with it.
“William…” she stirred back into her life and even had the strength to smile at me.
I breathed hard to keep my mind into focus. “It’s okay, baby. I am here. I am here with you. I’m sorry that I hurt you, okay?”
She shook her head and tried to touch my face but she couldn't lift her hand to touch my face so I leaned down so he could touch me. “You did not hurt me, William. I am okay. It’s okay.”
But I know I have hurt her. So much. This fated connection we have is what’s hurting Alana the most while I feel the most useless for failing to find the solution to our biggest problem.
Because breaking up and rejecting each other would never be at the table. It would never be because we will fight for our fate together.
“I have to get up.” She tried to wiggle herself out of me but like I would dare to let go of her. “I have to finish the race. I have to win because I have to marry you, my love.”
“No, Alana please. Stay here.” I hugged her and thanked the moon goddess when I heard that her heartbeat is back to normal. “Stay here with me, please. This is not worthy at all to gamble your life!”
“William, what are you talking about?” She tried to smile at me but it just came out as a forced weak one. “I am fine. I just transformed into my wolf, thanks to you. I finally met Malaika.”
I kissed her head and panted hard when I had the urge to throw up. “Yes, baby and you are fucking beautiful.”
“So, let me finish the test now. I want to marry you so badly, William. It’s you that I only want to live with for the rest of my life.”
I clenched my jaws when something tore my chest apart. “Me too, Alana. Me, too but the test is over for you. I have to treat you now.”
I got up while she was still in my arms but before I could run back to the starting line, Lucas came out of the lush greens towards us.
“Alpha prince! Alpha prince, please allow me to carry Alana for you.”
I shook my head briefly. “No, I am going to carry Alana, Lucas,” I refused and continued walking back onto the trail.
“But alpha prince, can’t you see that you are hurting her?”
I paused hearing him say that as I met his eyes, who are in pain. Why would he be in pain? Why would he be hurt? What does he mean by that? Does he know all along?
I looked down at my mate in my hands and noticed sweat trailing off her brows.
“I am hurting her,” I muttered. “I am really hurting her.”
“Shifting into your wolf can be the happiest moment of your life but it’s unusual for someone as old as Alana to shift right away without much practice. Her participation in this test is what prompted this to happen, alpha prince. I am sorry for saying out loud my opinion,” Lucas said.
“I know, I know.”
“So, let me carry her for you, alpha prince. Let me help you with Alana, alpha prince.”
I remembered Alana’s photo in his room but I just tried to shake it off. It does not mean a thing, I tried to convince myself.
“I am hurting her,” I said again as I sighed and carefully transferred her to Lucas’ arms.
After putting on the robe that he brought for me, we walked back onto the main base, my eyes and attention all to Alana who seemed to have been feeling better in the arms of my beta.
“Careful with her head, Lucas. Walk slowly. Her whole body must have been in so much pain right now.”
“I know, alpha prince. I know.”
We arrived at the base where my mother immediately ran towards in concern, seeing Alana unconscious.
“William, what happened to Alana! Is she okay?!”
“Mom, the toll of transformation did it to her. She must be in so much pain right now.”
I looked around and locked eyes with the head doctor. “I need a doctor now! Quick!”
The doctor came forward but instead of treating Alana, he went to report to my mother. “Queen luna, I have to report to you that we found an unusual activity on the blood of Ms. Alana that could be a concern… a big concern of a problem if the alpha prince ever marries her.”
I couldn't help but hitch his collar and growled. “Is that even important to you right now, you fucking rascal?! My mate is in pain and you wanted to report to us about that nonsense?! Do you really think we need that right now?!”
“My apologies, alpha prince but this is the order of the rules of the palace.”
My hard hands went up to his neck. “Do you even think that's more important to me than the sake of Alana?! Answer me!”
“No, alpha prince.”
“Then that means it’s not needed. Go away!”
But the doctor wanted my mother’s permission first. “Queen luna, should I proceed?”
My mother looked pissed too but handled it well so as not to make the situation blow off. “You heard the alpha prince. Alana’s health is our number one priority right now. That result could wait.”
“Yes, queen luna.”
The doctor bowed to me but couldn't meet my eyes.
“I’m sorry again, alpha prince.”
And then he ran towards the tent where Lucas already brought Alana in.
