“There is no way I would let you go though those tests successfully, Alana,” Lucas said the second he came into William’s room to guard me because my mate left for an important meeting that afternoon.
I was busy researching what to do to let my wolf out because the second test will be happening two days from now.
“It’s not for you to decide, Lucas. I am telling you, I am going to win these tests and justify that I am his mate.” I raised my head high to look at him. “I will marry my only mate, Lucas.”
He groaned and caught my arm tightly. “I am also your mate, Alana! Do not put me in the sideline as if your body does not respond to me more than it did when you are with the alpha prince.” His eyes lingered on the fading mark on my neck. “William already had you for months and now it’s time that I will have you all for myself and I will make sure to erase every bit of your memory with him.”
I felt electricity run through me when Lucas put his hand on the small of my back causing me to immediately jump away from him.
My mind just regurgitates the idea but my body is very willing to be with him. He saw the hesitation on my face and smiled confidently.
“Come on, Alana. Do not make things complicated. The alpha prince is a generous and wise man. He would understand if you would choose me.”
The colors on my face drained. “D-Did you…” I cannot even say the word properly. “Did you tell him?”
“No, I didn’t because I am still a gentleman waiting for you to decide.”
He walked up to me and sniffed my scent. “I will just be here to remind you that there is a better option. With William, you will always be left out while waiting for him to complete his tasks. You will always be doubted, Alana. I am sure you will always live a life you won’t like if you marry him. Not that I will allow it though. I will not let you marry William and not choose me, Alana.”
I inhaled my breath sharply and stepped back. He was so close to me that my senses were going haywire.
I can’t even think properly because his scent is making me confused but I was still able to look him in the eyes and tell him what’s in my heart hoping that he would stop this madness once and for all.
“I love William, Lucas. Nothing will ever change that. I have given him my all, Lucas.” I kept my tears at bay when this was becoming too overwhelming for me. “Please, Lucas. Just let me go. Forget me. You can still find your second chance mate. It didn’t have to be me. I am already William’s mate and I love him so damn much I would give up my life for him.”
Lucas gritted his teeth and looked away, not enduring the pain he’s seeing in my eyes.
“Now, if you still insist that I have to choose you, then I can just reject you as my mate.”
He laughed bitterly and sat on the chair. “Why does everybody want to reject me these days? You can’t reject me that easily because you have to acknowledge me as your mate before you can reject me. Everyone has to know that I am your mate too and when you start to reject me, I will reveal to everybody who you really are.”
My hands went cold at his threats again. More than spilling to the whole state that he was also my mate, I am more afraid of the possibilities that my real identity would entail. It could cause more alphas to turn against the alpha king and the alpha prince all because he has a mate for an enemy.
“I don’t care,” I mustered the words to say while staring right into his eyes. “I will still be with William. No matter what happens, I will never leave him and go to you.”
Lucas stood up and stalked me slowly but this time, I did not step back. I have to fight the urge in front of him because I know he will always use it against me.
“Come on. Don’t kid yourself, Alana. You’re just attached to him because he saved you. You thought you needed to be with him to pay that debt. Don’t worry, I will talk to him and tell him everything. William is a very understanding man. He will give us his consent.”
“That is not true,” I said firmly as William’s scent from a few meters conquered my senses, calming my raging feelings. “I know he will not let me be with you because he loves me so much, Lucas. Yours is just an obsession but what we have for each other is something that I cannot feel for you even for a second.”
I ran out of the door after saying that with tears blurring my sight. Why am I doubting my feelings for William when I felt nothing but peace and serenity when I am with him?
“Alana, if you ever found yourself out of this dungeon into the chaotic world, the only advice I could tell you is to pick your mate that will not give you waves and waves of emotion but a peaceful heart. That, my child, is the true love just like what your mother and father have for each other.”
I remembered my attendant saying that to me when I was a child before Alpha Killian fired her and drove her out of the village.
This is what she’s telling me all about, to not choose chaos over peace in love. Always serenity over crazy feelings. Pick the one who puts light in your life.
“William!” I screamed his name and waved at him from the backyard, my heart about to burst from too much emotion.
And that is William for me. He is my peace and light in my chaotic life.
“Alana!” he smiled and waved back to me, running immediately towards me, embracing me warmly.
He cupped my face and put a peck on my lips. “Were you waiting for me?”
I nodded and cleared my throat. “Yes, I am.”
