Chapter 76 - Taking back our home.
Lilith
I kept a close eye on Ezra and he was looking at our Beta! The man was glaring right back at Ezra. I knew whoever took our son was close to us, but he hadn’t told me that it was that damn close! I took the moment. The two of them just stared at each other and attacked.
The look of surprise in his eyes was all I needed and I bit down hard in the first place I could. He howled out in pain and I got a fright, stepping back quickly. I had never attacked someone else before! I had gone through all the training. Ezra taught me everything I needed to know to protect myself and our children, but whenever we were attacked by rogues, I stayed behind.
I had never physically bitten someone! The taste of blood shocked me and I watched as Ezra took our beta down and killed him. Adrenaline pumped through my body, freezing me in place. Ezra shifted and rushed to my side. He ordered me to shift and I returned to my human form. Ezra walked me inside and the stench of our Beta was everywhere!
Our clothes were thrown all over the bed and we each grabbed something to put on. While Ezra and our pack went through every corner of the house to make sure that none of our Beta’s men were left, I called Blanca. I couldn’t believe that after everything we did for these people, some of them had turned on us. I thought werewolves were supposed to be loyal!
I thought that no matter what happened, once they swore loyalty to their alpha, they couldn’t turn on him. I was wrong. That wasn’t blind loyalty they swore and they were androids who had been programmed not to kill. It was a huge shock to my system to realize. Here I have been living in this house for the past couple of years, raising my family and I always thought these people would protect us with their lives.
Boy! Had I been stupid! I walked through our home and just gaped at the wreckage our beta left behind. So many things were broken for no reason! Our son’s room had been completely turned upside down and it broke my heart to see. It was clear that our beta didn’t plan on leaving. He hated us so much that he had to destroy a little boy’s room!
Blanca and the others arrived and all around me people started cleaning up and clearing out. I was still in shock and couldn’t even begin to imagine staying here … Not ever! This was where our son was taken! This no longer felt like home! I no longer felt safe here!
Ezra
I COULD SEE LILITH spiraling. I could understand why she felt the way she did, but I had to get her focus back. I needed to calm her down. As wolves, we grew up in this world. Having our homes constantly under attack. For the largest part of my life, I was on the other side of this.
I was the rogue who took from packs like ours. I needed to remind Lilith where I came from, so she could see that not all wolves would do this. Not all of us were bad. I mean, she was a wolf, but she wasn’t bad. I walked over to where Blanca was talking to Lilith but she just sat there staring ahead of her.
“Sweetheart,” I kneeled in front of her and felt relieved that she looked into my eyes. “I know this has been the worst experience of your life. I know that your mind is all over the place right now, but I need you to know that you are safe. Our children will be safe. This was a one-time thing and we’ve removed all the wolves that stood against us. It’s over, babe.” I cupped her cheek and tears started streaming down her cheeks. I nearly breathed a sigh of relief.
Blanca and I sat with Lilith while she blurted out how she was feeling and we tried our best to console her. After a while, Blanca’s pack doctor arrived to help and I asked him to give Lil something so she could rest. It would probably burn off quickly, but at least if it could just help her fall asleep, she would be able to rest for a little while.
I wanted everything returned to normal before she woke up. I knew it was probably silly of me, but I was hoping that if I could return as much as possible to the way it was, at least she would feel like it was home again. I was furious with myself! I should have known that my beta would eventually turn on us!
I should have seen him plotting! He couldn’t have decided to do this on a whim and, in the process, he turned wolves against me that I never would have thought would do this to us. I had to make sure that we had gotten all of them out of our pack.
Carlo helped me to gather the pack and question the ones who we found hiding. Two more were found that hated my guts and we took care of them. When we were both satisfied that we had taken out the threat completely, we returned to the main house. Lilith was curled up on one of the couches with a cup of tea and Blanca was sitting opposite her.
They were laughing, which to me was a good sign. I breathed a sigh of relief and sat down beside Lilith, pulling her onto my lap.
“What’s so funny?” I frowned and they both burst out laughing again. Carlo had taken a seat beside Blanca and had his arm draped around her shoulders. Who would ever have guessed we four would be this happy all those years ago?!
“We were just talking about the time you stole Blanca’s birthday bracelet!” They squealed with laughter and I rolled my eyes.
