Chapter 75 - Protecting my people! My family!

Lilith

I had my son back. We were all safe, but … We had to give up our home to do so. Blanca and her people were incredibly kind to put us up, but as I put my son down in the small bed in our room, I couldn’t help but feel furious. Why did those wolves feel they had the right to do this to us? Who could have done this?!

Ezra wasn’t talking, which was usually never a good sign. It almost always meant that he was trying to hide something from me that he thought would upset me. I didn’t want to leave my son, but I wanted to find out what he was telling Carlo and Blanca that he couldn’t tell me.

Ezra

“I DON’T UNDERSTAND, EZRA.” Blanca frowned deeply and I noticed the small wrinkles around her eyes. She was growing older. We all were. I sighed and pulled my fingers through my hair. I couldn’t believe what I told them. How could I expect them to believe it?

“Believe me. I was just as shocked as you are. He had so many opportunities over the years to take what he thought he was owed.” My Beta and a couple of men from the Kingpin’s old pack were the ones who took our son. They wanted everything back. The businesses, the territory, and the pack, but I convinced them to at least let the pack go.

It just didn’t make any sense why they waited until now. They could have threatened Lilith at any time. I would have been just as inclined to hand everything over sooner.

“We have to inform the council.” Carlo frowned and I nodded. I was so damn tired and I never got tired. After seeing my little boy in those men’s hands, it felt as if every bit of energy had been drained from my body. Blanca thankfully intervened and I left to be with Lilith and our son. Blanca suggested that Carlo call the council tonight to just let them know what happened, but that we would all talk about it in the morning. I would give them everything that happened then.

I walked into the room and found Lilith asleep with our son in her arms. She looked like an angel with her hair floating around them both on the bed. She was pale and I worried that what happened could affect her pregnancy. This was not the kind of stress she needed right now! To lose our child!

I wiped a stray piece of hair from his little forehead. In those years while my mother and I were running, I never imagined I could have a family of my own. I never imagined that I could love them this much. I would give my life to save theirs any day. Without hesitation. I crawled onto the bed behind them and pulled them protectively into my arms.

I knew we were safe here, but then again, we thought we were safe in our home. I was so tired that the darkness pulled me in quickly. My dreams were distorted nightmares of what really happened and I woke up with a start a couple of times during the night. Lilith and our boy were still sound asleep beside me and I pulled them even closer each time.

When morning finally came, I was relieved to say the least. I was in no way in the mood to talk to the council, but they had to be informed. These men weren’t going to waste any time in trying to get their illegal business back on track. The council warned that if that happened, the entire pack would be killed … Me included.

I really wasn’t ready to talk to them when we walked into the office and I took a deep breath as Carlo put an assuring hand on my shoulder.

“You have nothing to worry about, Ezra. The council knows that you’ve done everything in your power to save your pack.” His words meant a hell of a lot to me. We were once on opposite sides, but over the years we have become friends. I could lean on him and he could lean on me at times when our mates drove us mad. I wouldn’t push it by saying Carlo was the brother I never had, but it was pretty darn close.

I pulled Lilith a little closer as Carlo made the call. It took some time to explain to the council exactly what happened and I knew that they needed to make sure that the pack had nothing to do with any of it. I needed the council to understand that it was a small group of men from the old pack who wanted their old lives back.

Thankfully, after my evidence, so to speak, they seemed to believe me. They wanted to know if we had a plan to take back what was rightfully ours. I was the rightful alpha of that territory. I fought for it. I sighed deeply. I didn’t want to put my family in any more danger, but I knew that if we didn’t take it back, I would be viewed as a weak alpha.

The council agreed to give my pack the chance to fight for what was ours. They would wait in the wings if and when we needed help, but they wouldn’t intervene. We had the numbers and now that my family was safe … The bastards had no leverage. They were once scary people.

They weren’t any more! It took all day to get ready and by nightfall, the pack was slowly moving in and surrounding our pack house. This time I wasn’t going to give my beta the benefit of the doubt. I shouldn’t have given it to him in the first place, but I was young and stupid! Really stupid. As soon as we were close enough, I gave the signal and we attacked.

His men ran in different directions as he stormed out of my home! The bastard had already made himself comfortable in my damn home!
