Chapter 71 - The truth can be amazing!

“Ah, honey! I have to admit … It was a huge shock, but I could never see you as a monster! You are my best friend.” I was a little hurt that she felt that way, but I could understand it completely. If I was in her situation, I would probably have done the same thing. Especially knowing that they could only tell one person their whole entire lives!

I had a bunch of questions I wanted to ask and I started shooting them off like little bullets making Blanca laugh, but she was very happy to explain everything to me. She asked if Ezra had told me anything about his family and I sighed deeply.

“Honestly, I was so shocked that we didn’t talk much after he … Showed me. Why?” I frowned and I could see there was more. “Honey, if you don’t tell me I might just really get angry.”

“Okay,” Blanca sighed deeply. “The people we have been referring to as his family are actually his new pack.” I sat listening to how Blanca found out about Ezra being her destined mate right after Carlo dumped her. How Carlo and her parents insisted that she pick one of the two and suddenly it all started to make a lot more sense. I understood now why she picked Carlo but I had to ask even though she looked happy.

“Are you really happy with Carlo? I mean, don’t you wish you could have tried to figure out what was going on between you and Ezra?” She shook her head and smiled and I could see that she actually really was happy.

“Nope. I know in my heart now that I made the right choice. I might not have made it for the right reasons originally, but it was still the right one.” Blanca told me how Ezra betrayed her and how they captured him and a group of rogue wolves, whatever that was. I was absolutely enthralled! It was like something out of the movies I loved so much!

When she told me how she had to convince everyone that Ezra and I had to meet, I burst out laughing. There was so much happening in the background back then that I had no idea about! It was incredible! I understood why I didn’t hear from Ezra! He had been locked up! She explained that his so-called family were the wolves who wanted to kidnap her, but that he was working with them to rehabilitate them.

It was truly one of the most bizarre but absolutely incredible stories I have ever heard. I understood why she pushed for me and Ezra to be together. Blanca was trying to save his life and, by the sound of things, all that wasn’t entirely over just yet. He had to rehabilitate his pack. After our talk, I felt so much better. I felt lighter. I no longer felt as though I was taking something from Blanca or Ezra.

I knew finally that I could move forward with him. I just needed him to let me in.

Ezra

“Penny for your thoughts.” My beta’s voice drifted into my daydream and I felt my cheeks turn bright red as I smiled.

“How could you even ask?” I grinned. We were busy building a second floor to the main pack house and I had stopped working. I was simply mesmerized by Lilith. She didn’t run after I showed her I was a werewolf! She was awfully quiet when we drove home, but she didn’t run or call the police. She accepted me and even though I wasn’t entirely sure if she would want to see me again … I was glad I told her.

My phone rang and I held my breath and answered. Blanca told me everything that happened at lunch. I was sad that I didn’t get to tell Lilith all of it, but I was happy she knew and from what Blanca was telling me, Lilith was okay with all of it! Yeah, she was the perfect girl!

I hung up the call with Blanca after thanking her for all her help and scrolled down to Lilith’s number. Before I could call, I stuffed the phone in my pocket. We still had a long afternoon of hard work to get through. I made up my mind to call her and ask her out as soon as I was done for the day, but first I had to take care of the pack.

Our afternoon was spent mostly in the sun, but I loved the hard work. It felt as if we had accomplished so much by the time we packed away the tools. In the morning, the new roof trusses would arrive and by the afternoon, our pack members would be able to move into their new rooms. My pack was happy, my future mate seemed to be happy, and finally, I was happy.

After a quick shower, I called Lilith and told her I would pick her up. She sounded excited to see me and as I walked out onto the front porch, I thought about my mom. She would have been so proud if she had seen me today. She would have loved the pack house and what we had accomplished so far. I saw a small bare corner near the stairs and smiled.

I wanted to plant a garden in honour of my mom. I wanted Lilith to help me pick out the flowers. Now that everything was out in the open, I wanted to share all of it with her. I jumped into my truck and drove over to her place where she was waiting on the porch.

“Wow! You look beautiful!” I jumped out and ran around to open the passenger door for her and she blushed, thanking me. I was taking her to the local diner for dinner tonight. I wanted us to just have an easy-going dinner someplace she knew well. I wanted to relax and, after our very strenuous previous date … I wanted her to have some fun.
