Chapter 63 - A night in Paris - Part 1
Blanca
I HADN’T SEEN OR HEARD FROM either Ezra or Lil for a couple of days and I was getting a little nervous about the entire situation. My friend was a human after all. What if that pack of dogs did something to her and Ezra? There was no way I would ever trust Ezra’s new pack after what they almost did to me. I just couldn’t. They were a band of gangsters! Rogues who were brought together by a greedy man who didn’t value life!
Sadly, I had no choice in the matter. I was the one who got the ball rolling on this entire plan and now that it was working, I wanted to freak out. I was planning on Ezra and Lil joining our pack. I never in my wildest dreams could have imagined them on their own. Never mind the most notorious pack in our region. I sighed deeply just as Carlo walked into my office.
“You are staring at your phone again, aren’t you?” He smiled and I had to nod.
“I want to call Lilith, but I’m scared if I see her, I might say something and then if Ezra hasn’t said something yet …” He walked in and sat down opposite me.
“You might mess it all up?” Carlo raised a brow and I got up and walked around the table. I made myself comfortable on his lap in the hopes that it would calm the storm that was brewing inside me.
“Exactly. I really want to talk to my friend. I miss her.”
Lilith
I LOOKED AT MY PHONE and sighed. I had scrolled down to Blanca’s number a million times over the past couple of days, but I hadn’t called her once. I didn’t know what to say. “Hey girl. I’m in love with your ex?” I rolled my eyes and stuffed my phone in my bag. I had work to do. I couldn’t stand around staring at my phone all day!
All ideas of double dates had vanished by now. I still felt incredibly uncomfortable with the fact that Ezra and Blanca dated and I had to figure out how I would handle that before I spoke to my best friend. She was clearly head over heels in love with Carlo, which made things a little easier. I finished work and as I left the store, I couldn’t help but smile.
Ezra was leaning against the black SUV with a huge bunch of flowers in his arms and his smile just made my knees melt! I slowly walked up to him and I could smell his aftershave. His hair was still a little wet, which could only mean he cleaned up recently.
“Hi,” I grinned and thanked him for the flowers.
“Hey beautiful. I thought we could go to dinner.” He opened the door for me and as I slipped into the passenger seat, my heart sank.
“I’m not exactly dressed for dinner.” I frowned, pointing at my work jeans and t-shirt and then at his impeccable suit.
“You are perfect just the way you are.” He winked and my stomach filled with butterflies. “But I thought we could go to your favourite store and buy you a dress if you want.” I opened my mouth to protest but he held up his hand. “See it as a thank you for helping me.” I sighed and nodded. I didn’t want him to buy me expensive gifts unnecessarily, but I appreciated the thought. We pulled up outside the shop and I ran inside to grab a dress and shoes. When I pulled out my card to pay, the shop assistant looked up and Ezra walked in.
“I did say that I would pay, didn’t I?” He smiled and pulled out his card and my cheeks turned bright red. I thanked him again and we left. As we climbed into the back of the SUV, Ezra put his arm around my shoulders and pulled me onto his lap. He smiled and his hand slipped down the side of my cheek before he pulled me closer. We stared into each other’s eyes for a moment before his lips softly touched mine.
His kiss was sweet and soft at first and I felt the car pull away, but I couldn’t focus on where we were going. Our kiss deepened and I felt things stir deep inside me that I never felt before. When we finally pulled apart, I looked up and in the rear window I could see a plane! My eyes snapped at Ezra and he grinned.
“Lilith, would you accompany me to Paris?” I sat on his lap gaping at him. “Can I take that as a yes?” He laughed and I grinned, nodding. I wasn’t thinking about any of the warning signs our parents taught us or anything other than the fact that Ezra was taking me to Paris! We boarded the private plane and he helped me to fasten my seatbelt, and all I could do as we took off was smile.
We were going to Paris! I was going to Paris! The hostess brought us some champagne and Ezra toasted our evening out. The plane landed, and I was simply gob smacked. I couldn’t stop gaping like a fish as we drove through the city and I looked at all the beautiful buildings. The car pulled up outside a small restaurant and Ezra opened the door for me. He tucked my hand into the crook of his arm and we walked in.
I was even more surprised to find that Ezra could speak French! A very sleek hostess showed us to a private booth in the back where we sat down. No matter how things turned out between us after tonight, I knew we would always have Paris. I will never forget coming here. I would never regret saying yes to the date! No matter where we ended up eventually, this was going to be the best night of my entire life!
