Chapter 60 - Finding my voice.

Blanca

THERE WAS MORE TO THIS THAN I originally thought. Carlo made it clear to Ezra that the council would be checking in on him. They wanted to see that he had taken over as the alpha of the Kingpin’s old pack or they were going to step in and it would all be lost.

I wanted to know if Ezra was going to contact Lilith, but something told me now that he was free, things might happen on their own. As long as I didn’t interfere. I needed to let them find each other the same way I found my way between Carlo and Ezra. It felt as though it was even tougher to just stand back and let things play out.

I wanted them to be as happy as I was. I didn’t love love Ezra, but I did love him and Lil has been my best friend for so long that I couldn’t imagine my life without her. She would find out about what we were eventually, but for now, all I wanted was for her and Ezra to be happy. Carlo convinced me to leave it up to Ezra to decide when to tell Lil about what we were.

I was scared she might think I had betrayed her by keeping it secret, but it had to come from Ezra for her to really and truly trust and love him. All I could hope for was that she would accept us and eventually she might forgive us. Carlo believed I was getting ahead of myself, but I couldn’t help overthinking everything.

Ezra

IT NOT ONLY FELT STRANGE TO BE FREE, but also to be in charge of the same goons who beat the crap out of me for years. Not only did they have to accept me as their alpha, their entire existence was going to change. They could no longer live the lives of aggressive rogues. They could no longer roam around bullying packs.

I had no idea how the hell we were going to survive with legal businesses, but I knew I had to do it for all our sakes. Two of the Kingpin’s wolves tried to challenge me the second we arrived at their den, but I quickly put them in their place and they backed down. I had killed their alpha and even if the council didn’t agree to it, I was now the alpha of the Kingpin’s old pack.

Deep down, all of his men had to follow my commands even if they didn’t want to. It was just our nature. In many aspects of our lives, we were more animal than human. I hated the Kingpin’s second in command, but he was the one who knew most about the business. He was going to challenge me eventually, but until then, I was going to use him for all he was worth.

We went through all the different businesses they had and most of them were illegal, but they did have a couple that we could build on that were legal. I was relieved to find out all wasn’t completely lost. As soon as I had all the bank accounts sorted out, I could breathe. I had to take full control over everything to make sure that the beta didn’t try and take over the business.

With all that settled, I asked him to show me to the main bedroom so I could take a shower, but as soon as I walked in, the Kingpin’s scent struck me. I had him call the omegas to clear out everything that smelled like the old Kingpin. It was piled up into a heap in front of the house. I had called the entire pack together and waited just long enough to make sure everyone was there and had seen what was piled up. I walked out onto the porch and took a deep breath. On the porch I was above all of them, which gave me an advantage. With a pack like this, control at all times was the most important thing.

“This is our new start. By burning everything that belonged to the Kingpin, I am releasing his energy and giving all of us a new start. I’m wiping out his scent from this pack and with it his energy.” I nodded at the Beta and he set all of it on fire. A couple of wolves started to howl, which was an amazing sign. They were just as relieved as I was that the Kingpin was gone.

There was hope for my new pack after all. If I could keep building on that hope and keep that momentum going, we might just make it. I stood watching the late Kingpin’s things burn for a while and then went back inside. The room was so bare that the bed didn’t even have any bedding on it. I didn’t own anything, so I just stood there for a moment, unsure of what to do. I didn’t even own soap!

“Alpha, the omegas can’t find any bedding that …” I whipped around.

“I thought as much. We are going shopping.” I needed new everything and I knew just the person to help me. My beta pulled the car around and we drove into town. I had no idea where I was going to find Lilith. I didn’t have her number or her address, and I didn’t want to ask Blanca. We had an agreement and I really wanted to do this on my own. We pulled into a parking spot and I told him to wait in the car. I looked around and sniffed the air.

Closing my eyes, I tried to feel her energy and my eyes snapped open. I could almost see her scent. It felt incredible. I followed it and saw her buying ice cream. Lilith was dressed for the summer and she looked so damn hot that my pants felt as though they shrunk three sizes in one second. Damn, this was going to be really tough!!
