Chapter 237
Alfred POV
Vanessa had a great idea: having Becca help the vampires care for their wounded. I knew it would be hard for her. However, she needed to be watched. It had been a long day so far. Preventing Vanessa from ripping Becca's head off. Then the rogues that were by the wall. I had warned Vanessa about staying close to the secret room. But I knew that she would not listen. She was a very stubborn woman. I could use my alpha powers on her and make her stay there; however, I was not going to do that. I knew that would just cause issues between us, and I did not want that. Instead, I kissed her and ordered fifteen men to stay by her side at all times. I knew that she would train and practice using her powers. She had Sarah as well. Stacey would be there the whole time, so I knew that she was protected. I had no doubt about it.
" Please be careful, my love."
" I will be."
She has a doctor's appointment today as well. As much as I wanted to be there with her, I knew that I had things to do as well. So I left her to let her do what she needed to do. I kissed her one more time. I then went to the wall where the rogues were. They had gathered their wounded, and their leader was there.
" What can we do for you?"
" We are asking for your help."
" The best I can do is put you all in the dungeon until this war is over."
I did not want to even do that. It was something that could be very dangerous. It should put everyone in danger.
" No, if we may have permission to stay here."
" The warriors that can fight will."
" I can agree with that."
I left them. They were being cared for by what I assumed were their healers. After walking a short distance away from them, I ordered one of my captains to watch them carefully. To have one of his people there at all times. The fact that they told me no about going to the dungeon meant they really wanted to regroup after their attack and get back to their business. I knew the leader. He was a man of his word. I also have a spy in their camp, so I will be informed as soon as anything happens. I made sure that there were several safeguards set in place. I needed to make sure that everyone was protected. Vanessa was watching from the tower. I knew she would not let me be alone. She is my mate after all.
I finished doing what I needed to do just in time for her appointment. I walked in just as she was getting into bed for an examination. Doctor Moser was there.
"Let's see how these girls are doing."
He hooked the ultrasound up. He then took the wand and began taking pictures of the babies.
" They all look healthy so far."
Vanessa then asked.
" Does it look like there will be a runt?"
It made me sad that she would worry about that. I knew she was the runt of her litter. I can understand that concern.
" Vanessa, they are all growing at the rate that they need to be."
" So far, everything looks good."
" We will do repeat ultrasounds."
" Thank you, doctor."
She was going to get up. I then picked her up and carried her home. The palace has been fully repaired. It looks as if nothing happened. It looks good. I was even able to find someone to repair all the family pictures, which I was grateful for. We went to the dining room. It was time to get something to eat, then we needed to go to bed. It was not really that late; however, it had been a long day. I also had a special snack made for her. She loved chocolate cake. I had Mac make her one. She also liked hot chocolate. So we were going to sit by the fire and have hot cocoa and cake. Even though we are in the middle of a war. We needed to have some couple time. I had made a bed of sorts out of blankets, with pillows on the floor.
We ate dinner, then changed into our pajamas. As we were exiting the bedroom, I covered her eyes.
"What is this?"
"It's a surprise."
" Really."
While she was changing, I had a table set up with the cake and hot cocoa on it. I guided her to the blankets. I uncovered her eyes.
" OH Alfred, really, this is so sweet."
She turned around and kissed me. I helped her sit down on the blankets. We ate cake and drank our hot chocolate. I was leaning up against the pillows, and she lay her head on my chest. In a matter of minutes, she was out. I sat there listening to her sleep. Her breathing was so peaceful. She actually sleeps at night now. I was drifting off to sleep when Chris ran in.
"Your majesty, there is someone here to see you."
" Chris, not so loud."
"Who's here?"
" It is Levi."
What the hell is the Descendant of Van Healsing doing here? They hunt vampires, werewolves, lycans, witches, basically anything like us. Levi had made it known that next time a human was killed by anything like us, then he would come knocking. I quickly got up and gently laid her down. I was out in the hall.
" Hi Levi."
" Hi ALfred."
" What is this about?"
" To the point then."
" There are rogue vampires attacking humans."
That is not good. I'm in the middle of a war here, and now we have rogue vampires attacking humans. I mind-linked Cane.
" Levi is here to meet me in the hall. "
" Levi, I will deal with it."
" I will be waiting."
I needed to keep Levi and Dracula apart. The Levi family has killed several of its family members and vice versa. That was a generational war. The Van Healsings have killed werewolves, too. However, we have put our differences aside to live together. They only hunt us now when there is an issue. Like, now rogue vampires are attacking humans. What are they trying to accomplish? Is this an attempt to divide our force? I knew that Levi had people who would help him hunt the rogue vampires. How many are there? I needed to know this information. I meant Cane in the hall. I explained to him what was happening.
" I will get Dracula and deal with it."
" Keep Levi here."
As we were saying goodbye. There was a commotion in the front hall.
