158| My Luna Queen.
AXEL
Never did I expect that kind of confrontation between Violet and my father, and I was so damn proud of her for the way she handled things.
“How are you?” I asked, my arms wrapped around her as we walked down the hallway.
“I don’t know.” She shook her head and sighed exasperatedly. “I cannot believe that I am here, accepting your father as my father-in-law after he murdered my father. But—” she stopped abruptly, the pain in her eyes evident as she looked at me, “my love for you supersedes everything. Every rage, every hatred, every pain. That doesn’t mean that I have come to terms with him being my father’s killer, I am just merely accepting reality. And I understand that my father was a terrible person. I understand the terrible things he had done, and...”
She sobbed.
I wrapped my arms around her immediately, pulling her into a tight embrace. “It’s okay, baby. It’s okay.”
Seeing how hurt and broken she was, the most sensible thing was to just let her go. But I was too selfish to do that. She was my whole heart and my whole world. I couldn’t do without her.
“Love birds,” Mother’s voice echoed through the air, and Violet quickly detached herself from the hug, wiping the tears off her face with the back of her hand.
A deep frown masked Mother’s face immediately. “Oh my... what’s wrong?” She was next to Violet the next minute, wrapping her arms around her.
“I was just a bit emotional, but I am fine now,” my mate said as she pulled away from the hug. She forced a smile on her face. “You are such a wonderful woman and I apologize for what my father did to you years ago.”
Mother quickly shook her head. “No, don’t do that. You weren’t the one who wronged me, so I will not accept that apology from you.”
“But—”
“No buts,” she cut her off. “Let’s focus on you. Even though I never liked Silas, I am still sorry for your loss. I understand how much you are hurting right now, and I wish there was something I could do to ease your pain. Anyway, if you ever need anyone to talk to, I’ll always be here for you. Okay?”
Violet nodded. “Okay.”
Mother placed a gentle kiss on her forehead before walking away from us.
“Oh, wow. Are you not going to acknowledge me?” I asked through the mind-link.
“Excuse me, do I know you?” she responded, and a chuckle escaped me.
“She’s so kind and beautiful,” Violet said as we continued walking.
“I know, right,” I said with a smile on my face.
I took her to walk through the gardens, which she loved so much the last time she was here.
She took a long drag of air. “Refreshing.”
“Not as refreshing as you are though.” I plucked a white lily and handed it to her with a small bow. “For you, my lady.”
Her face lit up and laughter escaped her as she took it. “Thank you, gentleman.”
We continued walking in silence, and after a moment, I muttered, “There’s something we have to talk about.”
“What?” She flicked her curious gaze at me.
“Our relationship,” I muttered.
“And what about it haven’t we talked about yet? We have agreed to push through with it despite the struggles,” she said, confused.
I sighed heavily and stopped. Pressing my lips together, I muttered, “My father wants me to ascend the throne.”
“What? Already?” Her eyes widened.
“Yes,” I nodded. “And you are to also ascend the southern throne. I don’t know how we are going to work around that. I don’t want to lose you. I don’t want to be away from you for even a second anymore. I told him I wasn’t ready and—”
“Do not turn it down because of me, please. It is your rightful position. You were born to be the Alpha King, Axel. You are the most powerful Alpha.” She took my hand in hers, looking directly into my eyes. “If what you are worried about is being away from me, put that worry to rest. I am not going anywhere. I will be here with you.”
My eyes narrowed. “But you are also to ascend the southern throne. You—”
“My mother is ruling now, and I intend to allow her to for as long as possible. I have no intention to become the Alpha Queen. I never wanted that position anyway. And it’s not because of you, so don’t feel guilty about that. It’s just my personal choice.”
I raised a brow. “Are you sure?”
“A hundred percent,” she nodded.
“Then would you be willing to become my Luna Queen? And lead this pack with me?”
A small smile touched her lips. “Absolutely.”
“Yes!” I beamed, and excitement flooded through me as I wrapped my arms around her and lifted her off the floor, rotating with her in my arms. Giggles erupted through the air.
Damn, this woman was the best thing that ever happened to me. I couldn’t even imagine life without her. I promised to love, protect, and care for her with everything within me, until I took my last breath.
I had always wanted the type of love my parents shared. But with Violet, I got even more, and I was going to treasure that for life.
When I dropped her down, I stared into the depth of her beautiful eyes. “You will never regret choosing to stay with me.”
She nodded. “I know, Axel. I know.”
“I love you, baby. So fucking much.” I leaned in and gave her a sweet, short kiss.
“I love you too,” she whispered into my lips.
We continued walking through the gardens afterwards, talking about our future and how many kids we intended to have. I couldn’t wait to be in that future with her.
“Wait, what?” She suddenly gasped in shock as she abruptly came to a stop.
I followed her gaze to see Mason and Indie under a tree, kissing passionately.
