Chapter 76 Twin Born
Alyssa's POV
“Twin born? What does that mean?" I asked, making myself comfortable and Zayne let out a small groan, causing me to shoot him a look, “I love you, but seriously!"
“I can't help it if you keep moving like that." He replied through our mindlink and I felt my face heat up. Nira snorted but didn't say anything.
If Dorian noticed anything…which I'm certain he did, he chose to ignore it…great idea because even though we were civil now, there was a limit to the things we can talk about and none of them included questions about why his son was moaning in the middle of a serious conversation.
“The prophecy said it was going to be a twin birth…which means you have a twin.”
"This keeps getting better.” Nira murmured.
Dorian went ahead to recount everything he could remember about the prophecy but I soon zone them out. First, I have new parents, now I have a twin sister. Who knows, what would turn up next.
“We don't have any more time to waste, the elders…” I heard Dorian start.
“Will not find out about her." Zayne interrupted. “Not until I'm sure the extent of what her powers are ." He finished and his Dad nodded in understanding.
“I was going to say the same thing." Dorian said, “and I might be able to help with her powers…if you want me to.”
Zayne cupped my face to meet his eyes, there was obvious conflict on his face. The same man who swore never to accept a ‘wolfless omega’ as Luna, was offering to teach her how to control her powers.
“He's trying to make amends," I told Zayne softly. “Give him a chance…you can be there while he shows me what to do or you can assign Xavier or Tristan.”
"You can start tomorrow.” Zayne told his dad, who smiled like he won a lottery…not that he needed it, with the amount of money and businesses they own.
The door opened before he could respond, and Xavier entered. His gaze landed on Alpha Dorian as he muttered a greeting before meeting Zayne's gaze, a hint of urgency on his face.
“Come in." Zayne signaled to Xavier.
I pushed myself up, immediately missing the warmth Zayne's body provided me with. But I've had enough for one day. Whatever Xavier needed to talk about could come after I'd processed the past few minutes.
“I'll leave you guys to talk, see you later." I told Zayne and I could swear that he looked a bit relieved but that was a conversation for later.
Kissing his lips softly, I said goodbye to the others before making my way out of the office. And I'd barely gone a few steps before I saw Lori walking mindlessly, in a world of her own.
“You look like you could use some company." I said, once I was close enough.
She groaned, “I need more than just a company." She replied, “maybe a day out to remind myself what freedom feels like."
I pulled her in for a hug, surprising even myself. “I'm sorry you had to go through that…”
"Alpha Zayne was just being careful, I understand.” She interrupted me. “But I meant what I say, I'll never hurt you Luna.”
"Seriously, call me Ally. And I know, even with our history, I knew it wasn't you.” Her arms tightened around me. "That's a relief.”
When we finally pulled away, she looked around and a frown appeared on her face. "Where's Mel though?” She asked, and I shrugged. "She's taking a break and I'm happy she's finally spending time with her mate, traveling around.”
But that didn't sit well with Lori, whose eyes narrowed. "I'm probably reading too much into it, but while I was in that room, I had a lot of time to think and I can't shake off the feeling that she's hiding something.”
I paused, "what are you talking about?” I asked her, my brows furrowing slightly, wondering where this was coming from. "Are you saying she tried to kill me?”
She shook her head, "maybe not that, but something about that day doesn't sit right with me.”
Okay, I was wrong to think that nothing could surprise me anymore. But I wasn't going to believe that the innocent person, who would do anything to protect me, was also trying to kill me.
"You're probably thinking too much,” I told her, "she's kind of the reason I'm alive.” I told her how Mel had suggested giving me blood when even the doctors couldn't figure that out. But even as I spoke, I immediately saw what Lori was talking about.
"I need to sit.” I murmured, and Lori nodded, holding my hand as she led me towards the childcare.
The girls stopped what they were doing once they saw me, "are you okay?” They chorused.
I nodded, "I just need to sit before I pass out from the overwhelming amount of thought in my head right now." I murmured, loud enough for them to hear.
“Is something wrong?" Aria asked after a few minutes.
“Apart from the fact that Lori thinks Mel tried to kill me…and for some weird reason, I believe her."
They paused, their head snapping to Lori. And before they could go off on her, she explained the same thing she already told me. “And maybe I'm reading too much meaning into it, but she had this look in her eyes…like fear."
“That doesn't explain anything, we were all scared shitless." Aileen reminded her.
"I know, but that wasn't the look I saw, like she was expecting it to happen…the fact that she knew how to cure it but took her time revealing it is also proof."
"B-but she's…why would she do that?” Aileen asked.
"Maybe someone put her up to it? If she really had the mind to kill, she wouldn't give out the cure.” Lori said.
"Maybe she changed her mind.” I added, "I mean, we were friends…right?”
"Now that I'm thinking about it, don't you think it's weird Alpha Zayne granted her time off immediately after the attack?” Aria asked, "it also explains how the remaining cake was able to disappear quickly.”
"I can't believe this, I treated her as my friend.” I murmured.
“I think it's all related to your wolf ability, you did heal Alpha Zayne when we all thought we were going to lose him."
Lori's eyes widened, “what are you talking about?"
Realising what she just said, Aria slapped a hand over her mouth, guilt washing over her. "Nothing.”
But Lori wasn't dumb to believe that. "She's going to find out anyway, it might as well be now.” I said to no one in particular.
The girls looked at me like they weren't sure if she could be trusted but I told her anyway, including the colour of my wolf and her jaw dropped. "That makes sense now.”
I frowned, "what?”
"Why the woman in my dream called me your protector." She replied.
The silence that followed was deafening, as we all took her words in. She'd actually mentioned it before but it made sense now that I know the colour of my wolf.
“I think we should talk to Alpha Zayne." Aria suggested and for the second time that day, I made my way to Zayne's office.
