Chapter 69 The Beginning of The End
Tristan's POV
"Mate!” My wolf called and I felt everything around me paused for a few seconds.
"What?” My voice came out low. "How's that possible?” I thought but I couldn't wait for an answer as my feet moved on their own as I followed the scent which now filled my head, clouding my every thought.
The scent was coming stronger from the room opposite Jace’s room and I immediately pushed it open, the sound echoing off the wall, causing the warriors to stand in a defence position and the girl, whose name I had forgotten to wrap her arms around herself, fear evident on her face and I felt a pang of guilt hit me for making her scared.
“Mate!" My wolf growled even louder. The girl's eyes widened once she realised what was going on.
“Get out!" I ordered, without looking at the warriors and scrambled out, slamming the door shut without another word.
With each step I took towards the girl, she moved backwards and even though she wasn't saying anything, I felt the pain of rejection spread through my chest. Ignoring it, I sat beside her, my hand caressing her face and sparks shot through my veins, and I felt alive in a way that I didn't know was possible.
Despite the fear in her eyes, she leaned into my touch. She smelled of Rose flower and her eyes were fucking beautiful.
“Mine!" I murmured, my lips only a few inches from hers.
But as if my hand suddenly became fire, she pulled away and a low growl escaped my lips. “Sorry, Gamma.”
Taking a deep breath, I held her hand and I didn't miss how perfectly it fits in mine. “What's your name?" I asked, despite all the other questions that were swimming in my head.
“Elara," her voice was soft, as if scared that any louder, and it was going to break. “Elara Skarsen.”
"Elara.” I called, testing out her name which rolled off my lips smoothly. "It's beautiful.”
My hand caressed her softly, my gaze not leaving her. We remained in a comfortable silence even though a part of me was now confused after having a few seconds to think. She's been here for weeks, and we've met before now but how come I didn't feel any pull until recently?
"How old are you?”
"Twenty,” she replied, and I let out a breath I didn't realise I was holding. “How come I didn't smell you before?”
She looked away, “When Beta Jace helped me escape, a witch m-masked our scent," she started, unconsciously biting her lips. "Because I'm an Omega, the e-effects take time to wear off.” She explained.
I nodded, “did you recognise me as your mate when you first came?" I asked, and she nodded.
I ran a hand through my hair, the image of how she suffered in the dungeon came rushing back. Even though we didn't touch her, she still stayed there until Luna Alyssa recognised her…she must hate me.
“She can't hate us, she's our mate." My wolf reminded me.
“Why didn't you say anything? Do you hate me?"
She shook her head, “I’m an Omega, I'm not allowed to have fantasy…you're a Gamma, you'll never want some…” I kissed her, swallowing the rest of whatever she was going to say.
"You're my mate, I don't care about your status.” I told her, when I finally pulled back to look at her face.
“I thought you were going to reject me, I don't…” I pulled her into my arms as she sobbed. My wolf gnawed at me to let him out but I ignored him, she was already emotional, I didn't want to add to that by scaring her.
“You're mine, I'm not going anywhere." I promised her, and for the second time in five minutes, I kissed her and this time, she kissed me back and it was perfect.
I wasn't sure how long I sat with her, I was reluctant to leave but I needed to talk to Alpha Zayne so he could ease up the warriors watching her and she can be free to walk around as my mate.
“I'll come back for you." I promised, placing a kiss on her forehead before excusing myself to go in search of Zayne but just as I stepped out, the first person I ran into was Luna Alyssa, her arms crossed, her back against the wall, as if she was waiting for me…and from the look on her face, she definitely was.
Without a word, she signalled for me to follow her which I did…the reality of what just happened finally crashing on me.
“She's my mate." I blurted before she could ask.
“From your swollen lips, I think I can tell." My hand unconsciously went to my lips. I wasn't sure if she was mocking.
“When did you find out she was your mate?" I knew what she was really asking even though she didn't say it.
“After I left Alpha's office." I replied, “I would never do that to Aileen."
“It's going to hurt her, but you better tell her before it's too late."
I nodded, “I'm going to." I murmured.
But it wasn't as easy as it sounded. Telling her that I've found my mate would break her heart and hiding it would make it worse. Even though we both knew this day would come, when one of us would find our fated mate, ending our relationship and not that it happened, I was feeling guilty for finding mine first.
“Make it fast." Alyssa said, standing up. “She won't like it, but she would understand and it'd be better if she hears it from you."
She left, leaving me to think about how to go about it without hurting her. But who was I deceiving? There was never an easy way to rip the bandage from a wound.
After thinking for only who knows how long, I mindlinked her and the excitement in her voice when she spoke made my chest ache.
“Are you free now? I have a surprise for you." Her voice said.
I took another deep breath before speaking up.
“Where are you? We need to talk."
