Chapter 67 Hidden Bloodline
Zayne's POV
“What the…?” I murmured underneath my breath, my jaw dropped as I watched the scene in front of me. "That's not possible.”
But it was right in front of me. Even Kael couldn't say anything. When Red said she wanted to go for a run, I was hesitant because I didn't want her to get her hopes high only to be disappointed, seeing how she hadn't shifted since the first time she did. I wouldn't deny the fact that I wanted to see what her wolf looked like, especially after we realized her healing power.
From all the research I've done, the only wolf with that type of power were white wolves but after an attack that wiped out their entire pack, it was believed that everything died with them…well, except Red. That was still a puzzle I was trying to solve and now this.
“This is impossible!" Kael said, “but fuck! It's beautiful."
He was right.
Alongside the white wolves, there were also black wolves which were rare. And it was rumoured that only one wolf possessed that colour because of the dark powers that came with it…it was a myth…not anymore.
Red wasn't just any type of white wolf, instead, she was a perfect blend of both white and black…a deadly combination, an unheard one in fact. In all of my research, nothing prepared me for this.
“Red!" Her name escaped my lips like a prayer. “Your wolf is fucking beautiful!” She let out a sound that suggested acceptance.
I couldn't take my eyes off as much as I wanted to, my hands touching her and she relaxed into my touch, a contented sigh escaped her lips.
“Is something wrong with my wolf?” Red's soft voice asked through our mindlink. "It's the colour, isn't it?"
I shook my head slightly, “your wolf is perfect…just like you.” I assured her, and the worry in her voice instantly reduced. “But can you shift back to your human form?”
There was a hint of disappointment on her face when she agreed. I'd make it up to her later, but there was no way I could concentrate after finding out that my mate was a rare…if not the only wolf with a mixed colour of fur.
When she shifted, she was fully clothed, another shock because only Alphas were capable of shifting and still maintaining their outfits.
“We are going to run later…but right now, we need to figure some things out.”
She nodded, but didn't say anything as I led her back into the pack house and straight to my office while I mindlinked Xavier and Tristan to meet us.
Xavier raised a brow, as if trying to ask why we were back barely twenty minutes after we left for our supposed running. I ignored him as we waited for Tristan, who took his sweet time coming.
“Alpha…” he called, as his eyes landed on Red, who was sitting beside me, her arms around mine and her head resting on my chest. “Is she okay?"
“What do you know about a wolf variant colour? I mean, two different colours?"
Their brows arched as they looked at me and knowing them, they were probably wondering if I hit my head while on the run. “That's never happened, Alpha." Xavier said, and I felt Red's grip on my arms tightened. "Personally, I would love to see one of it does exist and I have to admit, that'll be so fucking cool.”
Tristan nodded in agreement, "why did you ask, Alpha?”
"Because, because it or not, Red is one."
Their heads snapped to her, their jaws dropped. They were looking at her like it was the first time they were seeing her for the first time.
“How's that possible?"
It was exactly what I was trying to figure out. Because not only does she possess a rare wolf, she was bigger than most Alphas' I've seen and definitely bigger than Xavier, who's wolf was already impressive.
“I'm sure the Elders…”
"The Elders would not find our…until we get to the root of everything that is happening, no one outside this room can even know about it."
They nodded.
"I want everything you can find on her parents, they…she's going to be our first clue to figuring out what we need to know.” I said, my eyes Tristan.
Then I turned to Xavier, “check out the history of the white wolves Legend…I don't care, just find something.” I told him. It didn't make sense to me either, but I'm sure he'd figure that out.
For it to exist, I was certain that someone must have mentioned it, but since we weren't looking for it, we must've missed it but that's going to change.
Once the guys left, I turned to face Red, who hadn't spoken a word since we sat down. She looked lost in thoughts but that was expected. It wasn't everyday you went from wondering if you could shift…to having a wolf that its sight alone commanded attention.
“What are you thinking about?" I asked softly, cupping her face to look at me.
She shook her head, “this is a lot to process.” She admitted, "I spent years wondering why the moon goddess hated me…and now, I'm wondering what I did to deserve all of it.”
"She doesn't hate you…." The words came out of my mouth before I could stop it. “She was waiting for the perfect time.”
"I'm so glad I found you.” She murmured, "in everything that's going on, you're the best thing that happened to me.”
A small smile crossed my lips, "we found each other and that's all that matters."
She nodded, snuggling closer to me. We remained in a comfortable silence, my hand tracing small circles on her bare skin, my mind playing the incident that happened.
I wasn't sure I knew what I did to deserve her, but for whatever reason the moon goddess paired us together, I was going to make sure I spent the rest of my life treating her the way that'll make her forget everything she went through before she met me.
“I’m scared,” she admitted after a while.
"It's normal, but I'm not going to be right beside you…every step of the road.”
"I love you.” She murmured.
"I love you.” I replied, gently before pressing my lips to her own.
My lips were still on hers when I felt…a memory? A flashback to what happened a few days ago. At first, I tried to push it away, but it kept coming…a question that I didn't think about because of the situation.
“What's wrong?" Red asked, when she noticed my distraction.
“Nothing baby…” I replied, "just a thought that I can't push away.”
"I have the best way to relieve both of us of our stress.” she said with a smile that was contagious. But the thought continued,
“How did Mel know that giving blood would cure Red when the best doctors couldn't?"
A/N At this point, this two definitely cannot keep their hands off each other. Let me know what you think. Thank you
