Chapter 66 Wolf Unveiled

Chapter 66 Wolf Unveiled

Alyssa's POV
"I couldn't hurt you even if I tried.” Lori added, and my brows furrowed in confusion.

I massaged my head softly, this was a way too complicated conversation for someone who just came back from the edge of death. “What are you talking about?" I managed to ask.

The room was quiet, and I was certain that if I listened closely, I would hear the heartbeat of everyone in the room. The guys were also curious but we're doing a good job pretending to be angry…okay maybe they were, but curiosity was more.

Lori took a deep breath, “I'm not sure how to explain it." She started, “but I remember being so mad at Luna after Leon's death." She continued, and we nodded as it was no secret.

Then she went on to explain how she was planning on getting back at me, especially since I couldn't remember killing her brother, talk more of apologizing for it. She was going to make me lose something so that I'd know how it feels to lose someone close to me…I felt Zayne's grip on me tightened but he didn't say anything.

“Everything changed when…I think it was a dream or was it a vision…” She paused, and my brows furrowed in confusion.

"Lori,” I called, "can you speak in a language we all understand?”

"I'm beginning to think she's just making up stories to take our minds off the actual problem.”Aileen said, glaring at Lori.

"I swear, I'm telling the truth.” Lori insisted, before going on to tell us about the woman who appeared to her, warning her about whatever she was planning and also telling her that she was supposed to be my protector.

"And when I woke up, the urge to get back at her was gone. Instead all I wanted to do was protect her.” She finished.

The silence in the room thickened but as weird as it sounded, it made sense how she suddenly went from hating everything about me, to becoming one of my best friends…even though I wouldn't admit that to her.

Zayne cleared his throat, “a protector? What does she mean?" He asked.

"She didn't say, just how everything would come to light when the time is right.” She replied, and I resisted the urge to groan.

"Nira, do you have any idea what she's talking about?” I asked my wolf, before I eventually went crazy from trying to decode the puzzle.

“No, but I'm sure the ‘right time’ isn't that far away.” Her response was immediate, even though she still sounded weak. “You just have to be patient."

I leaned against Zayne's body, several thoughts playing around in my head. While I was certain it wasn't Lori, it meant that someone in the Pack wanted me gone and was bold enough to do it in front of a crowd.

“If she's not the one, it means someone else is after Luna.” Xavier pointed out, as if reading my mind .

“The only way to get the answer," Aria started, thinking for a few seconds, “is if we figure out if the cake was poisoned with the intention that Luna Alyssa would eat out of it or if she wasn't the actual target."

Lori's jaw dropped, and her eyes widened, “am I a target?"

"Where's the rest of the cake?” Zayne asked, and everyone stilled, before turning to look at each other.

“I don't remember…we were panicking to get Luna to the pack doctors, it was gone by the time we thought about it. The pack members in the childcare probably three it away.” Aria said, but we all knew that wasn't the case.

Our first clue to finding out if I was the target or if something else was at play, had disappeared which means whoever it was, was closer than we even imagine.

"I want whatever is left of the cake found and…” his eyes went to Lori. “You better be telling the truth."

Soon enough, everyone disappeared, trying to get everything sorted. But I remained in his arms, that was wrapped around me protectively.

“I'm never going to let you out of my sight." He murmured, and although his tone was light, there was no denying the hint of seriousness in his voice.

“As much as I'd like that, you have Alpha duties to do and I'm not keeping you away from that."

He sat upright, cupping my face gently, “Which I would willingly give up if it means keeping you safe.” He told me, and I smiled softly, heat pooling in my stomach. "None of this matters of I don't have you by my side.”

“How was he so perfect?" I thought, leaning in to kiss his lips. And what was supposed to be a quick Peck on the lips, soon turn into a full blown make out and I definitely wasn't complaining.

“I'm not going anywhere." I assured him when we finally seperated.

I ignored the nagging thought that wouldn't go away when Zayne spoke about giving up everything for me. I knew for a fact that a lot of people wouldn't be happy with that decision if it happens. His mom and dad being the first people who came to my mind, but they wouldn't go as far as trying to get rid of me…right??

“What are you thinking about?" Zayne asked, his gaze meeting mine.

I shook my head, “I'm just happy I found you…my life is so much better with you in it.”

He smiled, and fuck! It should be illegal to look this good. There was no getting used to that and he was all mine.

"We're going to to find who is behind this.” He promised, and I nodded. "And whoever the person is, they're going to regret ever laying hand on you.”

"I love you.” I told him instead of the response I had lined up in my head.

Lifting me up like I didn't weigh anything, he put me on his lap so I could face him directly. "I love you…so fucking much, Red." He murmured against my neck. "I love you so much, it hard to breath properly when you're not close…you make me better.”

“Our mate does have a way with words…I think I just came.” Nira said.

I frowned, debating whether to remind her that she was a wolf and I didn't think it was possible but an idea popped in my head instead.

“Let's go for a run."

“What?" Zayne asked, taken aback by the sudden request.

“I mean…our wolves never get to spend time together.” I told him. "And I've never really seen what your wolf is like.”

"Red,” he called softly, as if any higher would break me. "You haven't shifted since Leon…I want you to be ready."

I can't believe I forgot that important detail. “You know that we can shift right?” Nira said, "I was weak for a while but it doesn't mean I can't.”

"If you can…why didn't you say anything?" My brows furrowed in confusion. We never really spoke about it, so I assumed that for whatever reason, we couldn't.

“You didn't ask, and there was never really a good time."

A wave of guilt washed over me and Zayne noticed…of course he did as he asked me what happened.

“Are you sure…we don't have to rush it.” He said, after I told him what Nira said, but I shook my head. "I think I'm also curious…if I'm unable to, I won't push it."

Zayne considered it for a few seconds before nodding. “I can't wait." I said, grinning widely. I was more excited than scared of me being unable to shift.

The hours leading to when we were supposed to go running had to be the longest three hours of my life but finally it was evening and I let Zayne lead me into the forest…another place I never knew even existed before now.

“Remember, don't push it." Zayne said, when we finally arrived at an open space. “Let Nira guide you through the process.”

I nodded, as Nira's voice filled my head, telling me what exactly to do. Take a deep breath, and imagine everything happening—the feel of the grass under my feet, the feeling of freedom, of losing control.

At first nothing happened because it was hard imagining anything about my wolf considering I knew nothing about what she looked like but Nira showed me how to focus and soon enough, I heard my bones breaking and it felt like my entire body was on fire. But Zayne's constant assurance that I was doing well, kept me going.

And soon enough, after a while lot of groaning, I shifted and couldn't be happier. But the happiness was short-lived when I turned to face Zayne to see his reaction, if he was proud. Instead he stood there, shock…confusion evident on his face.

“Is something wrong with my wolf?" I thought.

“Look at our fur." Nira said excitedly and my eyes immediately went to my paws and Zayne's reaction suddenly made sense.

What. The. Actual. Fuck?

Let me know in the comment, what do you guys think happened?
