Chapter 164 A New Alpha
Chapter 164 A New Alpha
Zayne's POV
“I know where she is.” Nyra said, snapping out of her vision…if I could call it that.
"Take us there, now.”
I didn't know she could do the same thing Red could, like going into people's past but good thing that she could since the cameras didn't show anything that could be helpful making it obvious that whoever these people were, had helping hands within the pack.
I'd been in the meeting, listening to the Elders, who had somehow found out Red's identity and were trying to apologize and put the past behind us when Red mindlinked me that she was in the hospital for her last IV bag.
For a moment, I was close to saying ‘fuck the meeting’ but instead, I mindlinked Tristan to go to the hospital. And it wasn't because I thought something was going to happen but I hated the idea of her being alone. Except that barely a few minutes later, I felt a sense of panic, one that didn't belong to me and I was dashing out of the room with Xavier behind me.
I swear, whoever it was, would get what's coming for them.
“Who do you think is behind it?" My wolf asked, and I shook my head. I had absolutely no idea because the only people I could think of were in the dungeon.
“Alpha, do you think the elders have a hand in this?" Xavier asked, “and the meeting was a distraction to carry out their act.”
I thought about it, "it's unlikely, but not totally impossible." I replied, as we ran into the Pack hospital where we met Nyra seated and lost in the vision with Elara sitting in front of her.
“Alpha," Elara called, standing up.
“What's going on?"
She explained that Nyra touched the bed and had been like that for a while. The others came while we were waiting for her to snap out of it which she did a few minutes later.
"I know where she is.” She said.
"Take us there, now." I ordered and she nodded, standing up.
"I'll get the car.” Jace offered and ran out before anyone could respond.
The rest of us left the room to wait for him outside. I couldn't feel anything, not Red's emotions to tell me she was fine and in any pain. Mindlinking her was a waste of time because a barrier had formed and it was like talking to myself.
“Something weird happened." Nyra said just as the car arrived and I turned to face her.
"What are you talking about?”
"She saw me." She replied, and my brows furrowed. “The last time she saw my past, I couldn't see or talk to her, but she called my name and even reached out to touch me." She explained.
“I don't think we have anything to worry about." My wolf said
“I'd agree if she wasn't pregnant with twins." I told him. “It's obvious they drugged her to be able to get her…what if that affects her and our children?
Xavier opened the door for me and I got in the back while Nyra took the front seat to give directions to Jace. All through the drive to wherever she was being held, all I could think of was what she was going through.
I blamed myself, if I had left when I wanted to, it probably would've not ended this way.
After driving for about two hours, we arrived at a house, one that was hidden by the forest. The house was huge which means that whoever owns it must be someone with influence. Jace barely parked the car properly before I rushed out and towards the gate.
We didn't need to fight much since there were only a few warriors which the guys could take care of.
“They look familiar." Jace said, but I didn't pay attention as I followed Red's scent, which led me to a room at the far end of the hallway.
"Please, d\-don't kill m\-me.” I heard a voice, one that didn't belong to my girl, beg.
"Considering how you were going to kill my children just a few minutes ago, I doubt letting you live is a good idea.” Her familiar voice said, and I frowned.
But I was met with a surprise when I broke the door down, Ryder was on his knees in front of her with a bruise on his face. One of the Alpha's daughters I recognised also had her back against the wall but her legs weren't on the ground.
“What the actual fuck?" I thought, looking back at my girl whose hand was crossed.
"You're late, I was getting bored waiting for you.” She said, "And did you by chance bring food? I'm hungry.”
My wolf laughed, “I told you we had nothing to worry about.”
Leaving Xavier to deal with the mess, I led Red out of the house. "Are you okay? Do we need to go back to the doctor?”
She shook her head, "nah, I think I'm done with doctors for now.” She replied, "how was your meeting?”
I shrugged, "that can wait till later, we need to get you something to eat.”
Her smile widened, "now you're talking.” She said, and then she frowned. “I just realised Ryder never officially rejected me, even though our bond had long broken.”
"What?”
“I rejected him while I was in the dungeon but Jace helped me escape before he could do the same…I doubt he’d planned on doing that though.”
"Let's get you home first,” I said instead, “I don't think I can handle listening to that without wanting to rip his head off."
She smiled and nodded, wrapping her arms around me. "But did you seriously come to rescue me without bringing food?"
“Sorry…I couldn't even think straight even though I knew you could take care of yourself."
“It's okay, I still love you."
The drive back to the Pack was more peaceful, I could finally breathe properly again. I didn't even think of a fitting punishment for Ryder and his accomplices. I knew he'd lost his mind, but not to the point of kidnapping my girl.
"This is so cool!” Red said to Nyra, snapping me out of my thoughts. "I thought I'd imagined seeing you.”
"Yea, I was confused as well."
“Thank you guys for coming to save me, you're my heroes.”
Jace rolled his eyes, "I'm not sure it was you that needed saving…but you're welcome." He said, causing us to laugh.
The others ran towards us the moment we got back to the Pack, they took turns hugging her and apologizing for not realising she was in danger. But she just shrugged and assured them she was fine.
“Alpha," Xavier called, “what would you do with him?"
“You know I'm fine right?” Red asked, sensing my hesitation. "Deal with him, I'm not going anywhere." She assured me, leaning in and placing a kiss on my lips.
“Come with me then." I suggested, “I don't want you out of my sight…at least for the rest of the day.”
She nodded, "I like the sound of that.” She whispered, but I was certain everyone in the room heard her.
“Are you sure she was kidnapped?" Aileen asked, as we made our way out of the room and to the dungeon, where Ryder was being held, alongside his accomplices.
“Please don't kill me,” the woman pleaded. "They offered me m-money and I needed it.”
Ryder and Sabrina remained unmoved. I stood in front of Ryder, looking down at him. "From this moment onward, you are stripped of your title as Alpha." I said, and his head immediately snapped up.
"What?"
"You heard me."
His eyes widened and he shook his head "You can't–"
"I can't? Think again."
Nobody said anything…nobody breathed as silence filled the dungeon. "You abused your position, betrayed your Pack, kidnapped my mate and attempted to murder my unborn children." My voice remained calm. "A man like you has no right to lead anyone."
Ryder struggled against the chains. "That Pack is mine!"
I scoffed, "Not anymore." Then I turned to Xavier.
"Inform the elders. His title is revoked immediately."
"Yes, Alpha.”
My gaze shifted to Sabrina and the confident look she'd worn earlier was gone, replaced with fear.
"Please...I was only helping him."
"You willingly took part in the kidnapping of my mate and the attempted murder of my children." I said coldly. "That alone is enough."
She shook her head desperately. "I-I didn't touch her–"
That wasn't going to change anything. "Sabrina is hereby banished from every allied Pack. She is never to set foot on Pack territory again. If she does, she will be imprisoned immediately.”
She fell to her knees, tears streaming down her face. "You can't do that, Alpha. My father–”
"Your father is lucky he gets to keep his position.”
My gaze settled on the doctor last. "As for you, your medical licence is revoked. From this moment, you are forbidden from practising medicine in any allied Pack." I said, and the woman burst into tears.
"Please, Alpha Zayne..."
"You'll spend the next few months in the dungeon. Consider it mercy. You're lucky nothing happened to my mate and children.”
I turned to leave, ignoring the plea from the three of them. Red's hand tightened around mine. “If he's no longer the Alpha, who's going to rule the Pack?" She asked, just as Jace approached us and I smiled softly.
"He's not smiling at me, is he?” He asked Red, "what did I do this time?"
I rolled my eyes, "Tell me, Jace... how would you feel about becoming Alpha?”
