Chapter 161 Taken
Chapter 161 Taken
Alyssa's POV
My jaw dropped, "twins?” I repeated.
The doctor smiled, nodding again. Zayne on the other hand sat frozen beside me. The moon goddess seriously needed to calm the heck down because how the hell was I supposed to handle two children on the first trial?
"Red! This is the best news!” Zayne exclaimed.
"Right…but I need to rest my head." I told him and his smile immediately dropped. I feel like a bad person but I needed to process the fact that I was carrying not one but two children.
"Are you okay?” Zayne asked gently, "should I have the doctor check you again?"
I shook my head, “I'm just freaking out.” I admitted. "Two children Zayne, what if we're not able to handle that? What if we give one more attention and the other one feels left out?”
He cupped my face softly, "I can assure you that nothing like that is going to happen.” He said, “we're going to shower both of them with so much love and we're going to be the best parents they could ever ask for."
“You think so?"
He shook his head, “I know that." He replied, and it was only when I looked up that I realised we were alone. “But for now, you look pale so I'm going to take you back to the Pack house so you can rest.”
As soon as we were outside the hospital, Zayne swept me into his arms as if I weighed nothing and as much as I wouldn't admit it, it felt good. I wrapped my arms around him as we went and soon enough, we were at the pack house and our room.
"And you don't have to pretend to be strong,” he told me, once I was in bed. "We're going to do this together, one step at a time.”
I nodded, and he pressed a kiss to my forehead. “Now that you're eating for three, I'll have the Omegas make something very fitting."
Despite the way I was feeling, I cracked a smile and watched him leave.
Sleep didn't come easily, as my mind went over all possible scenarios of me abandoning my child and loving one more. Even though Zayne assured me nothing like that was going to happen, I couldn't help it.
“You're going to meet your mom soon, I'm sure she's going to be happy to help.” My wolf said, “and you're surrounded with people who have lots of love to give.” She added, and somehow, that put my mind at ease and I was able to sleep comfortably.
The next day, the first thing Zayne did before going for his meeting with the elders was kiss my stomach. It was his way of greeting them and telling them how much he loved both of them.
Since we decided not to know what their sex was, we couldn't pick a specific name to call them while they were still in the womb. So baby one and two were going to work for now.
“I'll see you soon." He said, meeting my eyes. “I'll have Tristan and Jace take you to the mall so you can pick up more things."
I nodded, “the girls were already planning to go. Elara needs new things and I think I should get something for my parents."
“You have my card right?" He asked and I nodded. The card that he'd left with me since the first time I ever went shopping. “Go crazy."
With one more kiss, he left and I also stood up from the bed to get ready. No doubt the girls would come knocking soon so we could leave for the mall. And as much as I'd like to deny it, I missed shopping with them.
"How are you so lucky?” Aileen groaned, when I told them about the fact that I was having twins. “If that happens to me, that's definitely the end of childbearing.”
Aria nodded, "I need whatever you say to the moon goddess, maybe she'll pity me a bit."
"I'm not sure that's how it works.” Lori laughed, holding Elara's hand and dragging her into one of the stores. “You guys can go shop for baby things, we'll meet back here in an hour, then go to the spa."
“I love the sound of that." I said, “I need to relax, my brain hurts from thinking."
The girls walked in front and Nyra came to stand beside me. "Are you okay?" She asked.
“Of course," I replied without hesitation. “Are you okay though? The girls are taking their time warming up to you again."
She shrugged, “I deserve it." She said, “but that's not why I'm asking.”
I frowned and turned to face her. "What are you talking about?”
For a moment, she didn't say anything, as if she was thinking of the best way to break the news and my brows furrowed. "It's nothing serious, I just feel weird, like something is going to happen.”
I looked around the mall, but nothing felt out of place. And Jace and Tristan had their eyes on us like if they looked away for one second, we'd disappear. "Are you sure?” I asked, "I mean, the only people who'd want us are already chained in the dungeon."
“Maybe I'm overthinking it.”
Although we continued shopping, the girls picked out gender neutral clothes and Aria insisted on buying some dresses because according to her, it'd be a crime not to get them. I didn't let down my guard just in case she was right.
When the girls decided we'd had enough, we got something to eat and then dessert before finally going back to the Pack. The drive back felt like a road trip and I loved every minute of it, especially since the last time this happened, we were in a rush to save Tristan's life.
"I'm going to put this in your room.” Aileen said when we finally got to the Pack, following her mate who was carrying more bags than I could count.
"I can't wait to move into our new home.” I thought and my wolf agreed.
"It's only a few days now.” She said.
Since they'd be done with the nursery soon, there was no doubt we'd move in once we were back from going to see my parents.
"You should arrange your things too.” I told Nyra. "Have you decided what you want to do?”
She shook her head, "for now, if our parents want me, I'll probably stay with them…I think that'll be good for me.”
"That's okay, and they'll definitely want us." I assured her. “I'm sure they'd not let us out of their sight for a long time."
“That sounds nice.” She said, and I smiled because it really does.
Once everyone was gone to do their thing, I decided to check on the progress of the nursery. I'd given them the design I wanted and I was excited to see it come to life.
I was halfway there when I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. And it wasn't the usual kicks. A pang of worry hit me as I changed direction to the hospital instead.
"It's nothing serious, Luna.” The doctor assured me, “but I'll send a nurse in to give you your last IV bag."
I nodded and followed him to the room I used the last time. "So, I'm in the hospital but I'm fine." I mindlinked Zayne. “The doctor is having me take my last IV, so you know where I am when you're back."
“Who's with you?" He asked almost immediately, just as the nurse entered.
“Good afternoon, Luna." She greeted me and went ahead to put it in.
"Nobody, but I'm fine.” I assured him. "Maybe when you're back, you can tell your children to take it easy with their kicking.”
He chuckled, “I will. I love you." He said, before ending the mindlink and only then did I focus on the nurse in front of me.
"Don't worry Luna, it's not going to hurt." She said, and before I could tell her it wasn't my first time getting it, a sharp sting went into my arms.
I frowned. "That..." I murmured, blinking. "That feels different."
But she offered me a reassuring smile. "Don't fight it, it'll pass in a second." She said, but it didn't. Instead, the room suddenly tilted and my vision blurred, and my fingers went numb.
I tried to sit up, but my body refused to cooperate.
"W-what..." I whispered, my words slurring.
The nurse's gentle smile slowly changed to something cold and I reached for the emergency button beside the bed, but my arm felt heavy like it didn't belong to me.
Darkness crept into the edges of my vision. The last thing I heard before everything went black was her voice.
"Sleep, Luna. It'll make this much easier.”
