Chapter 292 - The Alpha King's Rejected Mate

Orian’s pov

When I got home, I was embraced with darkness and eerie silence that had a feeling of dread settling in me but I shook it off and closed the door quietly behind me as I told myself that she was asleep. I could perceive her scent which still lingered pronouncing her presence and I tried getting rid of the worrying feeling as I took off my shoes and coat.

I switched on the lights and went straight to the kitchen to quench my thirst and as I moved the feeling that something was wrong came back again, the castle was too silent and I could feel her but I couldn't entirely feel her.

I got the water and went straight to my office to my office to drop my things off before going up to check on her and when I got in there, a smile came across my lips seeing a present box and a box of chocolate next to it. I got my hands on it, excitement bubbling within me as I opened it knowing she had dropped it there for me and there were two mugs in the parcel, one had my name "Orian" written on them and the second had "grump" printed on it, I grinned lifting them and admiring them with butterflies swarming in my belly. I just knew I would never take coffee or any hot beverage if it wasn't in these mugs.

And as I admired my new mugs, my gaze fleeted across the table and my heart dropped just as I carefully placed the gifts down.

I got nauseous staring at the table and seeing a copy of the file I had gotten from Hector's office, the file was touched and how it got there was of great wonder to me. I noticed that the table wasn't how I left it, it was arranged and the trashcan wasn't exactly in the same spot with the papers in it uncrumpled.

I perceived Amara's scent lingering in the air indicating she was here making it very evident that she saw this pictures and found out that I never wrote to her father.

I nearly collapsed against the table, my fingers quaking as anxiety coursed through me with my breathing heightening erratically, I could feel the beads of sweat forming on my forehead and my vision began to blur.

Get a hold of yourself, don't have a panic attack Orian.

I raced out of the office and went straight to her room to find it empty no sight or her nor the puppy and the next place was my room, her scent was in the air when I entered.

She had come here, seen the surprise I had and most of her things were gone, her unpacked trunk was open with a few of her puppy's stuff missing. I went back to her room in disbelief and back to mine in a state of confusion going back and forth trying to tell myself that she wasn't gone and she was here hiding playing tricks on me.

"Amara! Amara." I screamed looking around with my chest tightening and a painful tug at my heart, "Amara." I whispered quietly running down the stairs hoping for an answer but I was met with silence.

I decided to check around the castle hoping she hid somewhere and dialed Nexus at the same time to tell him of the recent development.

My head was pounding as I looked for her and while I looked in the other rooms, Nexus finally picked up and I closed a door bringing the phone to my ear, "Amara. Puppy. Gone. Disappeared."

"What do you mean?" He asked confused, "Why are you speaking in full stops?"

"She's gone, she left me, she broke her promise and left."

"Amara is gone?" He questioned and I hummed nodding as if he could see me, "Well have you checked everywhere?"

"Yes."

"Under the tables, in the cupboards."

"Be so fucking for real right now you piece of shit, my wife just ran away and she can't fit in cupboards!"

"Okay okay, calm down Orian, don't have a panic attack, I will stay on the phone tell me what happened."

"I got home and something was weird only for me to get to my office and see these cute little gifts she left for me, it was mugs Nexus, mugs. They were the cutest mugs I have ever seen with a box of chocolate next to them."

"Awwwn." He gushed over the phone, "You can drink coffee with them, hot cocoa, and- wait, she left you mugs and chocolates and then left?"

"The exact file we found in Hector's office, there was a copy of it on my table with the fake notes addressed to me and she must have looked at them plus discovered that I never sent the letter to her father."

"This is bad." He groaned, "And I bet those were planted by Hector but how?"

"Why would she leave? She should have waited for me t-"

"To what? To what? To fucking what?!" He screamed over the phone, "This is all your fault, I have told you severally to send Lycus a letter but you had cold feet like you were walking down the aisle about to be trapped in an arranged marriage to an ogre and then you lied to her and assured her that you had sent it out plus her seeing pictures and the notes knowing that her brother was to be killed or already dead, do you think she would stay back and not attempt to leave? You lied to her which gave room for Hector's manipulation to play out. She begged you severally to go to her parents, write to them, talk things out but you did not and then you finally lied, how did you think she was going to feel?"

I listened in silence as he talked knowing he was saying the truth.

A simple letter to Lycus, a trip outside of here would have solved everything but I dished out excuses and eventually lied.

The night Imelda had tried to assault me and Amara had come home to see me burning stuff, the letter I had managed to compose was burnt too cause I couldn't bring myself to send it fearing that he would reject our relationship and take her away from me and then I proceeded to ask if she would forgive me for the mistake claiming men make mistakes at times and I wondered how confused she must have felt then.

I ran a hand through my hair tugging at the strands thinking of how she asked again later on a few days before the coronation and then I lied, her smiles as she hugged me thanking me haunted me at the moment and I knew I had messed things up big time.

"What do I do Nexus?"

"We will find her, she can't leave after all so she would be stuck at the borders of our realm and if she forgives you this time, for the love of God please do what is right!"

I agreed with him and put an end to the call before hurrying to get ready and soon I was out meeting Nexus not too far away from the castle with a few guards and we set out to look for her going straight to the borders knowing that is where she would be.
