Chapter eighty-seven
Valerio
I hurried back inside my office to find Eduardo and Lucas sitting across the chairs in front of my desk, obviously waiting for me.
"You came," Eduardo said and Lucas instantly stood up with his head bowed. "Good day, Alpha."
"Yeah." I hummed, striding inside the room. "So what's with the emergency?"
I came to a stop in front of my desk and sat on the chair. My questionable stares pinned on them.
"I saw Alpha Reginald leaving the black moon pack a few days ago and again, Alpha Lucius has been acting strange. There is a man that normally comes to visit him, he's not a werewolf."
My eyes perked up instantly.
"What's he like?" Eduardo asked and Lucas's eyes narrowed in thoughts before he stared back at us, his lips down turned. "Sorry, Alpha but I couldn't make out his face. He's always covered in black hoodie and cloak."
My gaze locked with Eduardo. He has the same look on his face. I sighed and tore my gaze away. If he's hidden his identity, it's obvious that he's someone doing some hideous work for him.
But Lucas says he's not a werewolf then what is he?
A human?
Which human would have the courage to step into a pack of wolves and besides, although we do business with humans but they know little or nothing about our existence. Only us like the Alphas or higher rankers go into the human world to venture into business with them.
They are not allowed in here, the hunters made it possible.
And there are strict rules for that.
"So if he's not a werewolf which I doubt it's an ordinary human then what is he?"
"A hunter?" Eduardo suddenly questioned and my gaze fell on him.
Maybe.
He's right in a way because that's the only people that would have that kind of courage.
But the issue now is that there are a lot of hunters, where do we start from?
My attention shifted back to Lucas.
"Find out who it was. Do anything that you have to and get me his identity. He might have something that we need."
"Okay, Alpha," he said and stood up.
He stepped back and gave me a small nod and then at Eduardo before turning around and leaving as if he hadn't walked in before.
I sighed as soon as the door closed. My head resting on the chair. I feel so exhausted. The state I found Isabella in when I entered her room flashing in my eyes.
What's hesitating her wolf from surfacing?
"Hey!"
"Hey!"
Eduardo's voice sounded distant to me. My mind seems occupied with the thoughts of my mate, recently she has been acting strange…. unwell.
And that it's disturbing me.
"VALERIO!"
I jerked, almost flinching at Eduardo's loud outburst strucking me back to the present.
"What?!" I frowned, shooting him a sharp glare.
He rolled his eyes and leaned back on his chair.
"I thought you had gone deaf," he teased before his tone turned serious. " You seem to be spacing out. What's going on?"
"Is it about Luna?" He added.
He knows me too well. How he always predicts what's wrong with me always surprises me.
I sucked in a sharp breath and bobbed my head.
"What about her?"
"Her wolf…" I homed in on him, my attention shifting to him. Eduardo's eyes were fixed on my face, his gaze unwavering as he hung on every word and my body movement with his hands clasped together and coming to a rest on top of the desk.
I rubbed the tip of my nose and plowed ahead. "Her connection with Ethan is shaking, I know we haven't marked each other yet but she seems so distant which is wrong like something was hesitating her from surfacing. I saw in her eyes today when I left to see her, her wolf was there," I paused, recalling her eyes. "..... both her eyes were silver and no sign of the amber color but then she won't surface because Bella is yet to know that she has a wolf."
Eduardo's face molded into a deep frown, concern etched on his eyes. "Does that mean her wolf has woken?"
"Yes. I believe," I retorted and his frown dampened more. "Then why isn't it surfacing? As long as she had woken, Luna was supposed to be able to shift. Or was it because she has passed the period of her first shift?"
I looked into his puzzled expression but I doubt his question.
"If it's the case, then she was supposed to feel her or even connect with her but it seems different. I am starting to think if Lunae Mortis has another side effect other than the normal trapping of wolves?"
"I don't know much about the Lunae Mortis," Eduardo shook his head before letting out a frustrated sigh.
I groaned, and buried my head in my palms in defeat. The anxiety eating deep inside me.
I have to do something. I can't have my mate like this but the issue was how? I don't know anything about that Lunae Mortis. It's a dangerous weapon to the werewolves but it's only known for its ability on trapping wolves.
Or does it have another effect if used for long?
My jaw constricts and I grit my teeth at the thoughts. "I would never forgive you, Lucius and Aurora if anything should happen to my mate." I cursed under my breath. Anger shooting through my veins.
But Eduardo's voice suddenly drew my attention back to him, cutting off the growing anger and causing my heart to skip a beat.
"I have heard that there is a witch at the cliffside after the shadowglade pack,"
I knitted my brows. "That's fucking far. Shadowglade is a very far pack."
"But Lunae Mortis grows there so I am sure she might know more about it." He said and my lips pursed.
"So what are you suggesting?" I asked and Eduardo hurled me a small knowing smirk.
"We have to meet her."
