Chapter seventy-six

Alpha Valerio

"Here you are," Eduardo hummed as soon as he walked inside my office. He locked the door and I sighed, leaning my head on the chair as I swung it side by side.

"Any news about Aurora?" He asked. I frowned and tilted my head to the side.

'She is the one that needs to be saved not me'

I chuckled softly as her words flashed into my head like a gust of wind stirring up a pile of dry leaves.

"Hey, Val, what's going through your mind?"

I moved my gaze to stare back at him, my eyebrow a bit lowered on thoughts. "The more I think of this, the more complicated it gets."

"What?" Eduardo asked with a frown. "It's about how she disappeared?"

"No," I shook my head and glared at him. I am talking about my mate, not some snitch.

"My mate," I replied sharply and his brow slightly up in confusion.

"What about her?" He rounded the chair to sit down, his brown eyes quirked up in interest.

"Those fools that sneaked into this pack, one was her cousin. Reginald son," I said and his eyes expanded like saucers. "What are you talking about? Which of them?"

My mind drifted back to how that fool was trying to slide those small cocks inside my mate's honey pot and my body trembled with rage. My wolf growled immediately in disgust.

"That fool on top of her," I hissed and Eduardo froze in horror. "What the fuck?" He shrieked before shaking his head in disbelief. "How did you know?"

"She told me," I smiled, a sad one and his surprised stares were fixed on me like glue with his eyes unblinking with shock. "That means she doesn't have a good relationship with them," he added and I nodded with a frustrated sigh before speaking up again.

The skin on my forehead twisting into a confused slit.

"But my confusion is, why would they go to that extent of trying to rape her to death?" I said and Eduardo's eyes narrowed into a frown. He looked confused as well. ".... that his position was hers," I added with a clenched jaw.

" Which he ascended after her parent's death," Eduardo pointed out and I scoffed. "How sure are we that her parents died in a rogue attack like they claimed."

Eduardo's puzzled face snapped back at me. "What do you mean?"

"First, have you thought about why Lucius suddenly wants a wolfless she-wolf? He knew too well that she wasn't wolfless because according to Aurora, he specifically assigned her to work and tend to Bella." I said, trying to even understand these things better. ".... For Lucius who loves power, leaves big packs to ally with a weak one,"

I breathed out frustratedly, my eyes burning with rage. "Bella said that after her parent's death, the uncle was assigned as a temporary leader since she wasn't of age. But was said to assign the throne of leadership once she crossed eighteen years with her wolf,"

I blurted out, hating how that tastes in my mouth.

Something is fishy here.

Eduardo suddenly chuckled before he cleared his throat. His voice went lower in a whisper as if someone might hear him. "Are you not thinking what I am thinking?"

"What?" My sharp gaze narrowed at his words.

"What if his uncle was the one that had suppressed her wolf to term her wolfless so as not to vacate the position?"

My eyes bulged in surprise.

Now that he just said this, I am starting to think it was true.

"But why would Lucius want to marry her?" He asked the same question that I am also curious to know.

"How am I to know?" I replied back and he sent me a playful glare. "Ask Luna," he suggested but I sighed instead.

"She has no idea. She has no idea about everything happening, she still thinks she is wolfless. Even that snitch, Bella still trust her," I hate to say this but she sometimes acts naive to me.

Apart from her sharp tongue, she seems naive to me. Oblivious of what is happening under her nose.

That's why I had to make that statement to her, she had to stop trusting everyone around her.

"From my thinking, I believe Lucius and her uncle are working hand in hand. Even her parents' death is starting to feel fishy to me," I said and Eduardo nodded.

"So what do we do?"

" Investigate more into that pack. Anybody that seems or is acting weird, inform me immediately,"

"Remember that I am occupied now," He said. " About the kidnapping and rogues," he reminded me and I sighed heavily.

" Then plant in someone there even if it's someone from that pack," I said. "Just do something, Eduardo,"

I slammed my hand on the desk in frustration and he sighed with a nod.

"But Valerio," Eduardo called and I looked back at him. " And the kidnapping, I think someone knows our plans. Someone seemed to be one step ahead of us, the sudden appearance of those rogues in that wood is not something common."

I know what he is saying, all our attempts during this investigation for years now seem futile. Any move we took seemed to be known. It seems like we are running around in circles with no answer or anything.

But who could it possibly be?

I mean the snitch. How could it be?

"But the plan is only known to us shd Beckett," I paused immediately I said Beckett. My confused gaze locked with Eduardo before I suddenly shook my head. "I doubt he is the one."

"We have to be careful. I think something is going under our nose,"

Eduardo said. I could detect the seriousness in his tone.

I know but with all this drama going on, I haven't even placed my mind on that.

I opened my mouth to talk when immediately a sudden knock came at the door, disrupting our discussion.

"Come in," my cold voice reverberated.

And I heard the door handle twist by the side before the door was pushed open.

Austine walked in.

And my brow quirked up.

"Good afternoon, my Alpha and…" he then turned to Eduardo. " My beta,"

" Any news?" I went straight to the point.

No need to beat around the bush.

"Yes," he replied and our eyes lit up. "Where?"

"We noticed a small opening at the end of the hallway that is connected to the outside of the pack," he announced and my eyes went wide.

"I will have to check it out, bro," Eduardo quickly stood up and patted Austin's shoulder for them to leave before rushing out.

Austine gave me a small nod and turned to leave but my voice stopped him. "Wait,"

He instantly stopped and twirled to face me, his head lowered submissively.

"Keep your eyes on Beckett,"
