Chapter seventy-five

Alpha Reginald

I stood in front of the floor to wall window in my chamber, my eyes fixed on the outside with my hands clasped behind me as my mind wandered off in deep thoughts.

It has been a few days, almost a week and yet no message from Killian and the few guards that he left with.

This is unlike him.

When they reached the pack, he informed us… when they entered, we were also informed but that was the last time we heard from him and his men again.

If I told you that I am fine then I would be a liar.

My mind had not been at rest even before he left.

The sudden opening of the door jolted me out of my thoughts.

From her scent, I already knew who it was.

"Have you heard anything about him yet?"

My jaw tensed as Evenly walked up to stand beside me. What do I tell her?

I sighed after contemplating. "No news yet," I said and her shoulder slumped.

"I think we have to inform Alpha Lucius," she suggested and I sent her a disapproving look.

"So that he will have another reason to think that I am incompetent,"

"This is our son that we are talking about," she butts in. " He should think whatever that he wants," she sighed and held my hands, making me look at her. Her eyes are dull and I could tell that she has been crying.

Just like she has been doing for days now.

She swallowed and continued. "We need his help, he needs to interfere, please."

*** ****

Just like I have discussed with Evenly, I didn't know if it was right but after everything, I decided to go pay Alpha Lucius a visit.

Reaching his pack, I was led to his office.

The guards knocked twice before he was instructed to come in. He opened the door and walked in when I remained outside.

"Alpha. Alpha Reginald is here to see you,"

I heard the guard announce then followed by murmuring that I couldn't quite grab.

"Okay, Alpha," the guard mitted and turned back to the door. The next thing, it was pushed wide open. He gestured for me to enter with a slight bow.

I sighed and walked right inside and there he was; he, Stefano, and Beckett.

"Good afternoon, Alpha Reginald," Beckett greeted and I nodded, acknowledging his greeting.

Well, Lucius and Stefano remained in their seats.

"And why the sudden, unannounced visitation?" Lucius asked, his face stoic as he gazed at me.

I swallowed and went straight to sit on the couch nearby, I didn't wait for him to tell me to sit. This conversation, I don't think it's something that I could stand up and discuss.

"Sorry for coming unannounced but it's urgent," I said and they both exchanged a look before their curious gazes shifted back to mine.

"And what could that be?" Stefano asked.

I spared him a quick glance and gulped hard. "My son,"

There was a sudden silence immediately when the word slipped out from my lips.

None of them said a thing which honestly confused me. I lifted my head and my gaze locked with that of Lucius.

"I haven't heard from him for days," I paused and continued, swallowing. " I sent him to the Nightshade pack after our last conversation." I finished and that's when he blinked, clearing his throat.

"Now, that explains everything," he suddenly uttered, confusing me further.

Beckett and Stefano snapped their gazes toward him.

Well, I did the same.

What explains everything? Does he know something?

More as if he read my mind, Alpha Lucius hummed a cold smirk and leaned forward, his two hands clasped together and placed on top of his desk before he hurled me a sharp glare.

"I told you to send in somebody and you did with your son. Do you know the implications that would cause?!"

He latched out, his eyelids narrowed with a sharp, angular shape.

My shoulder tensed immediately and I pressed my lips together. "I h… I had no one else to send."

"And he was the only person that crossed your mind, Reginald. Don't you know that anyone who sees him knows that he is your son?!"

His blazing eyes flared up and I shrunk back on my seat before clearing my throat.

Why didn't I think of this?

Everything happened faster, I guess we were scared of losing everything that we decided without a second thought. And now, this is the outcome.

"Why didn't you plant someone to do this for you?" He slammed his fist on the desk, his cold eyes piercing sharply at me. "Must I teach you everything, Reginald?"

He growled and sat back, rubbing his jaw furiously.

And the air thickened.

I didn't even know where to start. The silence was uncomfortable to my side.

"Fine. I think I made a mistake but_" I had barely landed and Stefano's sharp voice cut in immediately, shoving the remaining words down my throat. "You made a grave mistake and not that you think!"

I swallowed with a nod. "I accept and I am deeply sorry about that. I was just scared of losing, going down that's why I decided without giving it a deep thought,"

I apologized and looked back at the furious Lucius staring at the wall beside him with his index finger tapping thoughtfully on his rugged chin.

"But please I need your help in finding my son," I uttered my reason for coming here in the first place and I noticed Beckett stiffened.

What happened?

I know I made a mistake but I need his help. Was that wrong?

Lucius's scorching look seared back at me and he raised his brow. "My help? What for?"

"To find my son," I replied.

One thing with Lucius, he never failed to show superiority. The way he always makes me feel insignificant but what could I say. He has helped me a lot and he was among the most connected and strong Alpha in this realm.

Being beside him has been helpful to me, that's why sometimes I neglect his hurtful words toward me.

I believe he knows better than I do.

Stefano suddenly chuckled at my response; a cold mocking one, jerking me out of my thoughts.

"Have you ever asked yourself why you haven't heard from him?" Lucius asked and I felt my heart skipped.

"Is he dead?" My gaze widened in fear as the thought crossed my mind.

They all remained suddenly quiet, Beckett stared at Lucius.

"No," he replied and I let out a quick sigh of relief.

But Beckett's face twitched slightly in a frown.

"You know where he is?" My panicked voice echoed out again and Lucius scowled. "His being held hostage by Valerio in his pack,"

My eyes widened and felt like my world had crashed.

He will know ... He will know, Alpha Valerio will know.

Damnit!!

"You see why I told you that you made a grave mistake," Stefano cuts in, his voice harsh and cold.

But all I could feel right now was my world crashing in front of me.

"... but I can help,"

As the word passed through my ear like a whispering breeze, my head snapped up immediately. My hands clasped together in hope.

Lucius smirked and then shrugged his shoulder. "But it is up to you. This time, don't act foolish like your son." He ridiculed and I gulped with a nod. Before he resumed again. "To have him release your son, get your niece, his mate,"

WHAT?

My eyebrow furrowed and I scowled. " How is that possible?"

I blurted in shock but Lucius slightly parted lips and relaxed back on his chair with a neutral expression hinting that he's none of his business.

"As long as you have his mate, Valerio will do whatever you want. That means your son will come back to you." He said with a knowing cold smirk. "That's the only way I could help,"
