Chapter 76 Chapter 76: Impossibility
ARIANNA’S POV

Lucien held a small package in his hand that had no return address on it. “What is that?” I asked, making him snap his head up towards me.

“I don’t know” He responded as he tore through the sealed top with a finger. A single envelope was inside, Lucien’s name written boldly on top of it.

He dropped the box to the floor as he opened the envelope. His eyes scanned the piece of paper he brought out of it.

His hands fisted the paper, anger visible in his eyes. What was written on the paper? I came to stand beside him, my eyes widening with each line of the letter I read.

Radiel Krook had declared war against Lucien. He was no longer hiding behind his soldiers anymore.

“He knows where I stay here” Lucien gritted out, his eyes narrowing on the letter. “What are you going to do?” I asked him.

“Start getting ready for the inevitable war” He responded, folding the letter back into the envelope he had taken it out from.

I worried my bottom lip, wars never ends well. But there was nothing he could do when Radiel Krook was bent on going to war.

“I would drop you off at work” he declared, as he went into the room to change his clothes.

I cleaned up my plate and was drying my hands when Lucien came out of the room.

As he drove me to the firm, he made numerous calls trying to gather his men in different parts of the city where they were situated.

My mind ran through different ways the war could turn out.

As he parked in front of the firm's building, I pushed the door of the car open.

“Thanks for the ride, Lucien” I mumbled out, my worry about the upcoming war clogging my throat up.

“I would protect you no matter what, Ari” He promised, his gaze piercing.

“I know you would. I would do the same for you” I whispered before I got out of the car.

I might not be as powerful as he was but I had my own strength too.

“Good morning, are you alright?” Derek called out to me, snapping me out of my dark thoughts.

“I am fine, thanks” I replied him, a faint smile on my face.

What I had seen yesterday afternoon flashed across my mind, making me smile a bit wider.

“And how about you? How did you finally manage to lure my assistant into your web?” I asked, joking half-heartedly.

He looked stunned for a moment before a wide smile took over his face.

Before he could answer my question, the woman in question came out of her office with a frown on her face.

“Good morning, Glory” I called out, making her look towards me.

Her eyebrows snapped together as her eyes bounced between Derek and I.

I stepped away from him slightly, hoping my assistant got the memo.

Her cheeks went red as she met my gaze. Good. She did.

As Glory came to stand beside Derek, I noticed she had his scent all over her.

Ah…That explained why Derek was peering down at her with a smile on his face.

She cleared her throat, looking away from him. “I already sent you your schedule for today” she let out, her hands tightening around her tablet.

They were mated, the mark that peaked out from underneath Glory's hair said as much.

I had known something was going on between them, I just didn't know it was that serious.

From the way Glory threw glances at his face, she had been resisting the mate bond pull.

“Okay, thank you” I said to her before I entered into my office.

I settled into my chair, the decision Lucien and I had made before we had gotten the war letter came flashing across my mind.

While I didn't feel the bond pull with Lucien, the imprint had grown to love.

And I was truly and totally in love with him. I couldn't see anyone but him putting his mark on my scent spot and I on his.

I could only hope we survived all the obstacles life was throwing at us.

The rest of my day passed in a blur of cases, my mind going to Lucien to many times that it interrupted my focus.

I had to hear his voice. I called him, a sigh of relief leaving me as his rumbling voice sounded into the call.

I didn't feel like stepping out of my office to get lunch, my stomach feeling strangely full.

A knock broke my focus on the case I was reading through.

Glory poked her head through the opening of the door.

“You have a package” she stepped into my office then, shutting the door behind her.

It looked like food from the restaurant Lucien and I had gone to back at the East palace.

But how would he be able to get their food here?

“Thanks, Glory” I mumbled out as I collected the package from her.

I called Lucien for the second time that day.

“How did you get the food here?” I asked, a smile on my face as I opened the plastic cover of the food.

“I have my ways, you sounded worried the first time you had called me” he rumbled through the call.

I bit at my bottom lip, spinning in my chair. “Thank you, where are you right now?” I asked as I looked out of the window of my office.

“I am at the Moonlight pack. I need to talk to the old man about the letter” he explained to me.

It wasn't that Lucien didn't know what to do or how to do it.

In the werewolf world, there was a way to things like war.

“Okay, stay safe” I said to him as I heard him push a door open.

We hung up just as Glory came into my office once more.

“Another package” she said, her eyes twinkling as she gave the small box to me.

It was my old phone.
