Final Chapter: The Alpha King Brother’s

The minutes seemed to have slowed down in that moment, my head remained in Max’s chest until her cries soon died along with her. It was an odd feeling to see her laying there, yes, I wanted her to pay for all the pain and suffering she had caused to so many people, my mother even on that list, but I don’t think her dying in such a horrific way was what I had wanted.

I knew this was the guy's mother I was talking about so whilst she was being taken away by men in specialist suits, I make the boys turn away knowing seeing their mother in state, even if they both hate her guts wouldn’t be the best thing. I leave them to speak on their own for some time whilst I walked up and down the field, the sun had set behind the trees but with the lights from the trucks and cars which had arrived from the palace, the entire field was lit up.

I look up at the stars above me taking a deep breath in of the now freezing air, this situation has been all I have thought about for months, wanting to clear Griffin’s name, having people try to kill me and learning the frightening truth which was before me, it was a lot to take and really, took it out of me. But standing in this field where it all started, I felt free. I wasn’t chained down with those thoughts of unknowns or the responsibility that I had to solve this for all the many that were lost or had lost someone due to this. I had done what I had set out to, clear Griffin's name.

With smile, I look around the area once more where I find Jared, stood alone by the hill with his hands in his pockets watching as they carted Julia away in a van. With a sigh, I make my way over to him, where as like he knew, he bows his head a little in sorrow.

“It looks like you’ve done it kid, you finally, solved the mystery.” He tells me in a flat sort of tone but a hint of a smile on his lips, I just smile taking a look down at the ground. “I know what happens now and I agree, I should be taken off and locked up for what I’ve done.” He says holding his arms out as though I was going to put handcuffs on him, but I only smile once again shaking my head at him.

“I’m not taking you anywhere Jared.” I say with a smile, suddenly, a look of surprise fills his face as he looks up at me to see if I was joking.

“But I’ve done such awful things, I’ve hurt so many people, even Julia.” He tells me surprised pointing towards the van where Julia lay inside, I nod my head confirming I knew all of this.

“I understand that Jared believe me, but I also know what it feels like to lose someone you cared so deeply about. In that moment, you’re sucked into this world of unimaginable grief and confusion as to what happened and why it happened. Once you can’t get those answers, you begin to be overcome with the want and need for revenge, make those who took them away from you, feel the same way you do.” I explain looking down at the ground remembering all the many thoughts and feelings that had been all I could think about at one point, where Jared had to reach over and wipe a tear from his eye.

“I was the person who took your mother away from you.” He says as though I had somehow forgotten that fact, where I also, have to nod my head telling him I knew.

“I know and I won’t deny, all of those feelings I had just described was all I could think about when you would come to mind….but now I’ve met you and have taken weeks of my life learning all that you have had to deal with in your life, I can see you were just a man who lost his soulmate and needed to feel whole again , but didn’t know how.” I explain watching as he shakes his head a little with tears rolling down his cheeks faster with every moment. “You didn’t want to hurt anyone, you’re a gentle man who only wanted his mate to come back and somewhere in you, you believed if you did this and succeed, she’d return.” I say whilst he still wiped his tears away, but it was no help, more flowed faster some his face.

“Julia saw this gentle man who was overcome with grief and as like she did with Griffin, she was able to easily control you and use you as like a puppet. It’s taken me a lot Jared, believe me, but I forgive you.” I say with my own tears forming in my eyes as the gravity of what I was saying hit me, where I could now see the shock and surprise on his own face as he too did the same. “I know now that sending you away to live the rest of your life in a cage isn’t going to bring my mother back and, in all honesty, my mother wouldn’t want that to happen regardless, of what you did. She was always the first to give a person a second chance after they messed up even when most times, they didn’t deserve it.” I explain putting my head up high wiping a tear away thinking of my mother.

“This is your second chance Jared, a chance for you to put all of this behind you and move on with your life. You now have the opportunity to turn your life around in the right way for Remi and my mother. I like to believe due to this tragedy happening whilst I was young and my brain was still developing, it has helped me as a person, and I’ve learnt to realise many things. We need to live our lives honouring those we have lost, even on the days when it’s hard to get out of bed, we do it because we know they are right behind us so proud of how far we’ve come. You need to live your life for your mate because she couldn’t.” I say wiping more of my tears as he smiles at me, but I was sure to look him right in the eyes as I spoke.

“But with that being said, if I find out that you have taken this opportunity to go back to your old ways, I will track you down and finally, deal with you. With the experience that I have gained from this whole situation, that won’t be hard.” I tell him with a pointed look so he knew that I was serious, I knew if he didn’t listen to me, I would make sure he pays even worse than he would if I took him in now.

“I swear, I’m done hurting people and living my life backwards, it’s time for me to be good.” He tells me with his hand to his heart, where for the first time, I knew this was the true Jared I was seeing. “You’re just like your mother, the way you act, the way you talk, it’s like I’m looking at her. You are the spitting image of your mother, paired with your father's temper.” He says with a smile where I couldn’t help but laugh taking a look down at the ground.

“Good luck Jared.” I say looking up with a smile, where he bows his head in respect to me for the first time since we had met.

“It’s been a pleasure Ma’am.” He tells me before turning around and walking away, where I stand there and watch with a smile on my face.

Before I had the time to comprehend what had happened, a little voice from beside me begins to call my name. Looking around the area, I soon find the little girl I had spoken to the day I went to visit the pack, stood by the border waving her hand at me. With a smile, I make my over knelling down so that I was at her level.

“It’s wonderful to see you again.” I smile placing my hands in my lap as the many other pack members and Alpha look over at us with smiles on their faces.

“Thank you for saving our pack!” She cheers where I couldn’t help but smile even bigger at her looking down at little.

“It was my pleasure; I’m simply doing the job I was gifted.” I smile not wanting anyone to feel as though they should thank me, I was doing what should have been done years ago.

“Last night I had such an amazing dream about my sister and your mummy! They look so happy, smiling in the beautiful field with all the butterflies around them.” She cheers once she remembered where I have to lean back a little with those same tears in my eyes. “Your mummy is very beautiful!” She tells me as though she really saw her, I once again have to look down at the floor with a few stray tears falling from my eyes.

“She was, just like you’re sister.” I smile pinching her cheek gently where she lets out sweet little giggles, but soon nods her head once again as though she had remembered something else.

“Your mummy told me to tell you that she loves you so and you’re the still the sweetest Rose of the bunch.” She tells me where I couldn’t help but let out a little gasp from surprise, that is what my mother always told me when I was growing up, how did this little girl know that?! “I drew this for you from my dream so you will always remember how happy they are smiling in the field.” She smiled now turning around the little paper she held tightly in her hands, where I take it looking down where an image of two people, standing on green grass with butterflies flying around looked back at me, where I was left with such sadness but also, happiness.

“I really needed to hear this; it’s been 7 years today since my mummy went up to play in the fields with the butterflies.” I say still looking down at the photo, a single tear leaving my eye and landing on the photo below.

“She isn’t gone, you just can’t see her!” The little girl smiles saying exactly, what I had told her the day we met. I nod my head with smile agreeing with her as little arms are wrapped around my neck for a hug.

I hold her back so tightly with a smile before we pull away, she waves one final goodbye before running over to a woman, who was also crying sending me a wave. I get to my feet doing the same before looking back down at the photo, this was the sign that I needed.

“She’ll be so proud of you Rose; she’s probably looking down at you right now with a huge smile on her face.” Griffin says coming to a stop beside me, I simply nod my head looking over at him with a smile. “She’s probably still asking why you’re still friends with me.” He asks with a hint of a laugh where I couldn’t help but laugh along with him, that was always an inside joke my mother would also say when we were annoying her while laughing like hyenas as she’d say.

“I’ve spent the entire day attempting to forget my mother but in reality, she’s been right here with me the whole time.” I say looking down at the photo whilst Griffin, wraps his arm around my shoulders pulling me in for a side hug.

“You know she is always there with you.” Max soon smiles walking over placing his arm around my waist and a kiss on the top of my head, where I couldn’t help but look up at him with a smile.

“She would have loved you!” I tell him, he looks down at me with a huge smile, but it was true, the way that he treats me and looks after me, she would say that was the type of man she wanted for me.

“She’d probably have a thing or two to say about his hair, but yeah she would.” Griffin said with a laugh where all three of us laugh along, looking up at the bright moon in the sky.

“So much has happened this past year, things that I never thought were possible or knew even existed for that matter, but in some odd way, they were just like the stories my mother used to tell me when I was little.” I say thinking of the wonderful tales she’d tell me at bedtime about this beautiful girl could Rose, who fell in love with the King who was able to do much incredible things as they lived in their beautiful palace.

“She was always a control freak, even in death she’d want to know what is happening with her sweet little Rose.” Griffin said but soon looks up to the sky with his hand in the air. “You know I love you, Kathy!” He shouts as though she was about to jump down and kick his ass, all of us laughing once again. I just shake my head with smile pulling them both in close.

“I wouldn’t want it any other way, I’ve been through some of the toughest times in my life but as I stand here in this moment, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.” I smile holding them both so tightly in my arms but do laugh looking up. “I mean what was I expecting, life would never be simple with The Alpha King Brother’s.”
