Chapter Ninety: Aim To Kill

I could only stare at Paul with shock on my own face, I guess I had been wondering where Thomas was and if he knew anything such as this was going on, but I didn’t expect for Julia to be killing him the same way she did Remi!

“What do you mean it’s the same way she’s killing their father?” I ask having to get some clarification on that, you can’t just claim something this outrageous from nowhere, my question causing Paul to let out a little sigh.

“Whenever I was left alone with your mother, she would constantly repeat to me that your father was nothing but a pig, she would go on that he may be a great King, but he was an awful mate to her. She wanted nothing more than to be done with him but due to the statues they both held, she was stuck with him until he died.” Paul began to explain which did sound like something that horrible woman would say, when in reality, it was the other way around and she was the awful mate not Thomas.

“She expressed how she hated him so much and was so unhappy, she needed find a way to break herself out of the chains he had put her in. But one day, she found that very thing to free her and came to give me my new orders. I was to go deep into the woods to this very old cabin and collect something, not thinking much about it, I left. But when I arrived at this cabin, I find this really old woman living there who as soon as I mentioned Julia, rushed into her home and said she knew exactly what she wanted.” Paul says where I couldn’t help but see the similarities between this story and the one, I was told about Remi, perhaps she thought her old plan had been working so well, why not do it to Thomas! I hate that woman!

“The woman soon returns with this black medicine bottle full to the brim with some liquid, she explained how she didn’t believe Julia would need this anymore, but she knew better than to ask that woman any questions. I didn’t know what she meant at the time and left with the medicine in hand and gave it to Julia that day, who was delighted. I asked her in that moment what she would need it for where she only slapped me up the face and said it was no concern of mine and if I didn’t stop, those men would be at my family's door in a matter of minutes.” Paul sighs looking down at the ground where I couldn’t help but feel bad for him, he never went into full details to me what it was like basically, being her slave, but it sounds like hell!

“But she did tell me the only way out of her loveless marriage was to get rid of Thomas and as like before, she made all of his meals in that poison.” Paul explains where I knew this was beyond bad, if Thomas isn’t already dead by now, he doesn’t have long left if we don’t help him immediately!

“Is he still alive?” I ask not wanting to waste anymore time by beating around the bush, Thomas may not have enough time for that!

“She’s giving it him in such high doses, he’s struggling to get out of bed.” Paul explained where I couldn’t help the sinking feeling which tugged at my heart, Thomas is such a great guy and doesn’t deserve to be treated in that way by a woman who is supposed to love!

“AND YOU JUST FUCKING STOOD THERE ALLOWING HIM TO DIE?!” Max asks slamming his hand so hard on his desk I feared it was going to break in half, whilst Paul shook his head knowing he had to be very careful with what he says next.

“I didn’t have any other choice! This is the reason I left that place and came to see Rose! I couldn’t help him myself, but I knew she had the means to do so!” Paul shouts wanting everyone to see that he didn’t just stand back and allow it, but he had to be smart or even more innocent people would die as a result of Julia.

“What the fuck are we waiting for?! LET’S GO!” Griffin shouts getting riled up and very protective of his father for obvious reasons, but knowing what I do now, I was forced to grab him by the arm and prevent him from moving.

“No, we can’t Griffin! If you walk in there now the entire plan will go down the fucking drain! Yes, we’re going to help your father, but we have to be smart about this, the first scent that your mum smells of you, she’ll probably kill him!” I shout having to hold him back as he acted as a dog pulling its owner by the lead, but once I said she was most likely going to kill him, he stops dead in his tracks looking at me with such worry on his expression.

“He can’t die Rose; he thinks I hate him.” Griffin says on the verge of tears, this leading me to sigh a little as I wrap him in a hug, his silent cries against me, I knew in this moment that I couldn’t turn to see what Max’s reaction to this would be.

“Macauley, you know what to do.” Is all I say looking right at Macaulay who stood by the door, he sends me a nod of his head with a smile before leaving the room closing the door behind him.

“What’s he gonna do?” Griffin asks me, pulling his head up, the tears still rolling down his cheeks at the thought of his father being gone before he could tell him how much he meant.

“Macaulay and I have been working this for weeks, we have so many plan b’s and c’s that we’ve probably made it to the end of the alphabet. Just calm down, Macaulay is handling it.” I reassure a very worried Griffin who only nods his head a little whilst he takes a seat beside me whilst I stood, my elbow leaning on his shoulder instinctively, this is how we would always stand.

“Whilst Macaulay is out helping your father, we still have a lot more that needs to be discussed.” I say making sure no one was to run after Macauley, we had planned this all out and didn’t have enough time to sit and explain it to other people, we didn’t know how much longer Thomas has!

“Yeah, we do! I still want to know where the fuck you have been and why the fuck you are helping that woman destroy us!” Fred asks showing the first anger I have ever seen, he is normally, so calm and collected that I couldn’t help but jump a little.

“Paul has already explained this all to me and it’s in my expert opinion, that I should be the one to explain, you guys are less likely to shout abuse at me.” I say moving away from Griffin to stand in front of Paul, who looked a little nervous going into this, which was the main reason I didn’t believe he had any part to play in this, he seems too genuine but also, nervous.

“To cut a very long story short, I had the same questions as you do Fred, but he explained the day that he was sent out to fight in that battle by Julia, he went to the field in question but found no battle. Instead, he found Jared and soon after Julia, standing in the middle of the field with their arms crossed staring at him with smirks. He was told by the pair that if he were to come back here or attempt to mind-link anyone, the men that Julia had would be given the order to go and kill every single one of Paul’s family members. He did what all of us would do to help family.” I explain knowing if I was in his shoes and that was placed on my lap, I’d have no choice but to go along to save the ones I loved.

“That still doesn’t justify you allowing not only us but your entire family to believe that you were fucking died!” Fred shouts clearly still holding some high emotions from all that’s happened, which is very understandable.

“But then to return to kill my mate.” Max soon chimes in still sitting back in his chair with his hand placed into his chin, Paul once again only letting out a sigh, geez is this man trying to be a steam train?!

“He explained to me that leaving to try and kill me was the hardest thing he had to do but he was never intending to kill me. Yes, he would still need to lunge at me with a huge knife which wasn’t terrifying at all, but he wasn’t aiming to stab me in a place which would kill me but aiming for my shoulder, which still would hurt might I add.” I say turning around to look at Paul with a raised eyebrow, who could only awkwardly smile at me. “But when Fred jumped in the way to protect me, it went straight into Fred’s chest which really cut him up.” I say looking over at Fred but in my mind, I begin to picture the horrific sight of him bleeding out in my lap where I could do nothing but scream for help.

“So, it was okay for you to stab MY mate in the shoulder but when you missed and hit Fred, you couldn’t live with yourself!” Max shouts so angrily where for the first time, I did see it from his point of view and had to turn to look at Paul once again.

“I know how fucked up that sounds, but I didn’t have any other choice, my whole family would have been killed if I didn’t agree!” He shouts looking over at Max before staring at the floor, I could see where his heart was and in reality, it was Julia and Jared that we should be blaming.

“What’s done is done, I’m not died and Fred is okay now! We need to move past that and deal with the more pressing matter before Julia can attack the pack!” I shout getting into the middle of all the screaming men, yes, I also agreed that running at me with a knife was a bad call, but we can’t dwell on that anymore.

“I don’t know if I can trust him anymore.” Max says with a plain face but for Paul, I knew that comment stung slightly that his best friend couldn’t even look at him the same way anymore.

“Well, you’re going to have to for a moment if you want my plan to work.” I say looking Max dead in the eyes, before my plan of stopping this all was finally, revealed to them all.
