Chapter Eighty-Six: Dreams
Macaulay’s face was a picture as he watched me stand there with a smile on my face, before this point, I wouldn’t have had a clue that it was Guy helping Julia, I wouldn’t be surprised, but I didn’t know. It was from that little conversation that we had just shared that fully, painted that picture for me.
“How is it you know ma’am?” Macaulay asks still very much confused, where I simply smile enjoying that I still had the ability to shock people.
“Just before I spotted you, Guy and I shared a very interesting conversation. He jumped right in and began to ask me very detailed questions about the case as though he was trying to trip me up and I’d tell him everything that I knew. From the beginning I felt off so I simply told him I’ve been too busy to work the case and feel as though I should drop it all together. He seemed to be very pleased with my answer and merrily, walked away” I explain how fast I had to think on my feet, imagine if I didn’t and ended up telling one of Julia’s main spies all that I knew so far.
“So can you also agree that this is a huge problem, the man is the Kings Gamma!” Macauley exclaims seeming to be very agitated, this was the first time I had seen him show emotion such as this, so I knew he was very worried for what was about to happen.
“I agree, this could be beyond damaging but as like I said yesterday, now that I’m fully Queen, I have so much more power than I did and can now deal with these people correctly, once and for all.” I explain knowing this was bad but with all the intense planning I know Macaulay has put in whilst I was being crowned, we had nothing to worry about. “But we still have to listen to the warning Wade gave us, we cannot just run in there all guns blazing even though I believe they deserve that, we have to think so carefully about our next steps not just to keep people safe but ensure each person who had their part to play in this, is finally, held accountable. But what makes this situation that much difficult, we cannot let Julia know what we’re doing until we want her to know” I explain knowing there were two ways to go about this and one of them, could potentially, be very dangerous.
“That is the aspect, which is going to be hard, due to Julia once being Queen, all of those people who work with her have an open communication with her due to them having personal relationships whilst she was the reigning, Queen. If any one of those individuals begin to feel nervous, I bet the first person they mind-link would be her.” Macaulay says with a shake of his head, I still couldn’t believe there were people in this palace right now working for Julia, a woman who has hurt so many innocent people and is planning to hurt even more!
“Is there some kind of way we could block them from being able to mind-link anyone, I suspect if they can’t get to Julia they’ll mind-link someone else who works for her so they can let her know?” I ask not knowing if what I was asking was impossible but once again, there is so much in this world I never thought existed or was possible before so perhaps, someone had come up with a way to stop it.
Macaulay looks at me for a second before I see his eyes glaze over as he begins to think if there was such a thing out there, after a moment, a smile forms on his lips and he points over at me.
“Yes, there is, the device is mainly used in prisons because for obvious reasons, you don’t want some criminal being able to communicate with other criminals which are outside. The device admits this odd vibration which prevents the communication from getting through.” He explains where I couldn’t help but stand there shocked, something I had thought was so ridiculous in my head is a real thing?!
“Where did you wander off to?” Max’s voice soon fills my head which was pretty ironic, we were only discussing mind-linking and than his voice fills my mind.
This is when I do realise, I had sort of left the party which was done to celebrate me, I didn’t want to tell Max where I was in the moment because I knew for now, this matter had to stay between me and Macaulay, so I needed to be quick.
“I have to get back before Max arranges a search party for me, is there anyway you could look more into this and perhaps even get your hands on one?” I ask after snapping back out of the mind link and looking back over to Macaulay, who nods his head going into his pocket and pulling out his phone.
“I have a friend who works in a high security place a few miles away from here, I suspect they’ll have tons of those devices laying about. I’ll get in contact with him and see if he’ll lend us one for tomorrow.” Macaulay says mainly staring down at his phone to get all the information he needs, where I couldn’t help but smile thankful, that he was going out of his way to help me when he didn’t need to. “I will handle all of this ma’am; you can go and enjoy your party.” He smiles placing his phone back in his pocket, whilst I walk forward wrapping him in a hug as a thank you, he was a little surprised but does hug back.
“Thank you, Macaulay, you do not need to help but you’re going out of your way to do so, I really appreciate it.” I say before pulling away where he only bows his head at me in respect.
“It’s a pleasure ma’am, putting away bad guys is quite literally, what younger me used to dream of doing.” He says with a laugh whilst I soon realise what little me always dreamed about doing.
“Well, I always dreamed of becoming a princess, so perhaps dreams do come true.” I say laughing along with him before taking a look down where he begins to walk backwards.
“It is an honour that I am able to do it with you ma’am. See you tomorrow.” He smiled with another bow before leaving the room though another door to not make people look over and begin to question why the new Queen and her guard were in a room on their own.
I smile before heading out the door we had walked through where I arrive back in the empty ballroom, I took my time to look around the beautiful room. But now I was alone and finally, in the quiet, I take a deep breath in for what felt like the first time in a very long time. My silent moment of peace was soon broken by one of the side doors opening, turning my head, I spot Max making his way deeper into the ballroom with a smile on his face, his fancy shoes walking along the marble.
“So, this is where you went.” He says with a smile walking to stand right in front of me, I just smile with a nod of my head looking up at him.
“Yeah, I was just speaking with someone about the party outside, they just left to get more drink.” I say with a little chuckle knowing I was lying, but I didn’t have much choice. He soon smiles wrapping his arms around me before placing a kiss on my lips.
“I am so proud of you baby, not only for how well you have handled all of the challenges which have appeared leading up to this point but also, for all the work you are putting into the case.” He smiles complimenting me, where I soon remember the information which I had learnt and needed to know he hadn’t been trusting the wrong man.
“You haven’t told anyone about Griffin have you, not even that Guy person?” I ask knowing I couldn’t outright point Guy out without him getting suspicious, but I needed to know if Guy knew more than he should.
“I have not spoken a word to a single person.” He tells me looking down at me suspiciously, whilst I turn my eyes away knowing he’ll be able to see what I was thinking easily.
“I just don’t trust that man and soon, you’ll be seeing why.” I say with a distant look thinking of all the many things that man could have told Julia, I knew I had an off feeling the very first time that I met him not that long ago. “Anyway, shouldn’t we get back to the party?” I ask with a smile whilst beginning to walk past him, but as he still held my hand, I’m pulled right back but even closer to him the time.
“I was thinking you and I could celebrate a different way.” He tells me with a smirk and in his eyes, I knew exactly what different way he was thinking of.
“Wouldn’t they begin to wonder where we went?” I ask looking back at those at the party, each of when still drunkly dancing around to the music.
“They are all much too intoxicated to take any notice of such things, but let’s celebrate!” He exclaims before I’m picked up and carried in his arms through the ballroom and towards the stairs, where all I could do was laugh along with him.
